Hello,
This week I am sharing the Belted Kingfisher. Unless it is a rare sighting, the Belted Kingfisher is one of the only Kingfishers seen in the USA. I usually hear their sharp rattle sound before I see them. They are shy birds around me, take off before I can get a sharp clear photo. I am always trying for that great shot though. I hope you enjoy these Belted Kingfisher photos.
The are known to hover and then plunge head first into the water for their catch of fish.
The adult female Belted Kingfisher has a rufous belly band. The male has a bluish belly breastband. Both male and female have white underparts and a dark crest.
They are often seen perched in trees near the water.
I have so many favorite birds, the Kingfishers are another favorite.
I hope you enjoyed my photos and post.
As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.
My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

Take care, Gordon.
Hello,
Very beautiful photos, Eileen! They are so sharp and clear. Lovely to watch them all.
Happy Monday, and enjoy your new week ahead!
...I haven't seen one in years!
I like the in-flight shot with the bird looking down. Wish you a great start into the new week.

I too love kingfishers and white throated is my fav perhaps it’s the only kingfisher I got to see and shoot many times. You got excellent shots of the belted kingfisher and the diving pic is fabulous!

What a wee charmer!!! Happy Monday. YAM xx
Haven't seen the first one of the season yet, but no doubt I will soon! Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
Hi Eileen,
marvelous photos of this very special bird.
Best, Synnöve
Beautiful! Our kingfishers are also hard to photograph... Well from my experience ..,
#3 WoW!! i have never seen one. how in the world do they balance like that??!!
gorgeous, all of them!!!
Those are great photos. They are so hard to photograph, like you said, they always fly away.
Like you say Eileen. Kingfishers are hard to get close to. That applies to our own Uk one too. But you took some lovely shots there. Your Belted Kingfisher is definitely bigger, and noisier than our own.
Fabulous shots Eileen! Love the profile in the first one.
handsome bird!
I have only seen kingfishers in photos and until i found you i thought they lived in Austraila and Africa only. since then i have seen photos of them taken here in FL but i have not seen one. i have not seen even a photo of the female. both are beautiful birds
Fantastic images!!!
Pretty kingfisher. Few weeks ago, I spotted a kingfisher fishing my guppies. I hope it won't come back for more.
I understand that there are lots of things I don´t see.
Beautiful models and photographs.
They are a cool bird. They don't hang out much around my parts, which is very frustrating. They are cool looking
What a cute little guy. I have so been enjoying spending time with the birds in and around my yard this year.
Have a great week Eileen,
Andrea
These are a favourite of mine too Eileen. We saw SO many kingfishers while camping this year, but had the same problem of seeing & photographing them before they saw us and flew away. We did watch a few of them diving into the water though. You got some really great shots of them!
Wendy
He/she is a excellent, the best.
Good job, E. Tough to shoot! I love their loud squawks
Nice pics! I like the little tuft on feathers on top of their heads.
Yes, I have added Kingfisher to my list of favorites too. Love his profile!
Wow, what a beautiful bird.
Beautiful photos of this amazing bird, Eileen! I love the colours and patterns!
I haven't seen one in years!
Hello Eileen and what great photos of the kingfisher especially your second shot of it hovering!
I can see why it is a favourite!
Have a great week!
Beautiful captures! We have them here, but they do stick to the countryside.
Hee, hee, the kingfisher looks as though he has just gotten out of bed. ;-)
I LOVE those birds! Kingfishers are so scrappy, yet beautiful to look at. The only ones I've seen in person were in the Smoky Mtns.
Lovely post, Eileen! Thank you for sharing.
I love these. The one photo reminds me of "Bedhead" or a Mohawk haircut! : ) What a lovely bird that has so much personality.
Great pictures of the kingfisher. Last picture is my favorite.
Wow, Eileen! Fabulous shots of this Kingfisher!
I'm impressed! These pictures are marvels.
gorgeous little bird..
I am impressed with your shots! They are so difficult to photograph. Love the hairdo!
These are great shots...I only have a few and none are half this nice! Oh, and they are always shy around me, too.
It really looks like a belt is has on! We only have the blue-collared one in the yard, our resident kingfisher.
Wow - amazing shots.
Those are fabulous shots.
Even though I have seen several, I've never been able to get a good photo.
They are even prettier than I've been able to see. My sightings are always at quite a distance. Once I move, they fly off.
Awesome clicks.
Loved the post.
Very funny birds, indeed. Totally new to me.
It is interesting to follow your adventures, Eileen!
Have a good week ahead.
Great shots!
Enjoy your day Eileen!

Wonderful you could catch this belted kingfisher on your photos. Kingfishers are rather rare here but we have them and I have never seen one..... I know they are in our neighbourhood but when I´m there they are not.....sigh...
one of my top ten favorites. Lovely shots. :)
Great photo catches Eileen . . .
Thought of you yesterday as I pulled up to the mailbox at the end of our drive way,
put down the window, I heard a bird singing, very close by,
I thought instantly of you thinking,
Eileen would have her camera handy and would catch the birdie in a pic!
What a cool bird, Eileen! Love that funky hairstyle.
Kingfishers are one of my favorites too -- but they don't like to hold still for me. They seem to sit still until I put my camera to my eye -- then flash, they're off. I'm thinking the ones I see might be a different variety, but I will have to check my archives to look at my one or two only (not nearly this good) pictures.
Owwww, i like this. Very nice !
These photos are amazing. My favourite shot of yours is the first one- calming and simple. I have never seen a Kingfisher before. I wonder if we have those here in the Philippines.
I missed CC! You know I've been busy!!!!
Hello Eileen!:) These birds fly by so fast, it's extremely difficult to capture them on camera, so well done for your great flight shot, and I loved seeing your very attractive Belted Kingfisher in the tree tops, they are so different from the ones I see here.
Cute photos Eileen !!I love the last one with the frizzy hairs.
Buen miércoles.
Besos.
Wonderful photos of the Kingfishers!
I see them here in Mississippi, but find them difficult to photograph. You did a super good job of it!
Have a beautiful day!
That Kingfisher is the cutest little bird, Eileen, with his spiky haircut! :-) Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday.
Wonderful photos! How awesome that you get to see them sometimes.
Eileen - congratulations on these shots. Yet another reminder to me that patience in nature photography is rewarded! Where did you go to take these and how long did it take?
They are very flighty for sure. Excellent shots you got. I usually hear them first and off they go--LOL

It is so nice to see your great and beautiful bird photos!
Beautiful photos Eileen :o)
I think the Belted Kingfisher looks a cute bird!
Great series of photographs, especially the capture of it in flight.
All the best Jan
Great series of pictures, Eileen, of a species not always easy to photograph.
Beautiful birds and great photos, Eileen. Have a great week, my friend.
He is a gorgeous bird, great photos Eileen :) Enjoy the rest of your week.
It is one of my favourites too especially the Kookaburra
These are great and I know how hard it is to catch these birds...Michelle
What a peculiar looking fellow. You always have the most interesting and amazing bird pictures, Eileen. I love the birds, so I appreciate these wonderful birds you post. : )
~Sheri
What a gorgeous Kingfisher! We have many here is Australia, the most famous being the 'Laughing Kookaburra'.
You did great!!! That is a super shy kingfisher! I've been lucky only a handful of times to get pics. For most of the US, the Belted Kingfisher is a common bird for most people depending on their location and time of year. For us peeps here in Tucson, we see them here in the winter time. AND if we're lucky, we get a rare Green Kingfisher to come visit:)
