Our World, My World

Happy Monday,

Happy February, the days are flying by. I am sharing our last day in Florida 2019, we visited the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.  We walked on the boardwalk trail at the visitor center, saw various turtles including the Florida Soft-shelled Turtle, an alligator, next to the boardwalk we saw orange trees and a giant lather fern.

"Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder."   E.B. White

I hope you all are not tired of seeing bird photos and post from me. I took close to 300 hundred photos just at the wildlife refuge.

I love these Northern Shovelers, they have comical look to them. I think it is the big bill.

Below are the Roseate Spoonbill, Spoonbill and Great Egret in flight, Belted Kingfisher, Northern Shoveler, American Avocets with gulls.

We have had many cold, cloudy and damp feeling days in January. On these days I tend to vegetate or what I call hibernate. I am reading a lot ebooks from my library and from Kindle Unlimited. Some of my recent favorite books are: The Long Call by Ann Cleeves, and I started an old series Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear, my latest read now is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides.

Please check out and visit the following memes and links. I hope to see you there.

  6. Between the spoonbills and the shovelers, Eileen, I think you need to name this outing, "Big Bill Day!" In addition to the birds, I would have very much enjoyed that Florida Soft-shelled Turtle. The only one I ever saw was already in the mouth of an alligator.

  13. I have not seen the shovelers before, I love those ugly beaks. this might be my new favorite bird, pushing out the ugly pelicans. I have a passion for ugly birds and ugly dogs.. I am drawn to wild life that others might not think beautiful. these ducks are beautiful to me... so are the spoon bills with the similar not so beautiful bills. I love that quote. in fact in the pool today, Jill and I were discussing all the natural wonder here in FL.

You got a nice pic of a Kingfisher. ... and all your birds...I could never get tired of your posts. .... funny, my daughter calls gray rainy winter days her hibernation time and she likes those days, says she would miss them if she spent winters here in Florida instead of home in Oregon. Not me! (But I do miss her!)

  46. I enjoy reading your posts and seeing photos of gorgeous birds I'll not ever get to see in my lifetime. The Shoveler tickled me so much I picked up a pen to sketch him (or her). That was fun. The Shoveler reminds me of old stooped men who wear their pants belted nearly up to their chest.:-)
I've been reading the more recent Maisie Dobbs stories. I like the mature Maisie more, probably because I'm older.

these are again beautiful pictures of the various animals and birds. I am always impressed by the green heron but also by the pink spoonbill. In the Netherlands we only have blue and herons and only white spoonbills. I thought it was great to see a pink one :-)
The kingfisher, ducks and kluten are also great to see. I enjoyed your photos.
    have a great evening.
