My World, Our World

 Happy Monday!

We are still staying close to home on most days, taking local walks on the fire road and to the lake. We do have many choices which direction to walk and which section of the lake we want to see. These are some views from our walk to the lake on June 28th.

The roadside daylilies are blooming now, we saw some on our walk to the lake and there were some growing by the lake.

The Chipping Sparrow was sitting on a wire just singing a song.

A view of the reservoir, we saw a few fishermen out in their boats. I heard more birds than I saw, here is a little list of birds I heard on my walk: Black-throated Blue Warbler, Pine Warbler, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Worm-eating Warbler, Ovenbird, Northern Cardinal, Mourning Dove, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Northern Parula, Carolina Wren, Eastern Wood-Pewee, White-breasted Nuthatch and the Great Crested Flycatcher.

Not the best lighting, the Eastern Kingbird was seen in a tree next to the lake.  You can just barely make out the white on this bird's tail feathers, a sure sign of it being the Eastern Kingbird.

I noticed the Red-eared Slider Turtle across from us at the cove.

A different view of the lake, this is a section where the local teenagers like to hang out. I do not mind them hanging out there, I just wish they would not leave behind their trash.

A beautiful world starts with you, we have one planet to call home. Please take care of our earth, our home.

We are staying safe, wearing our mask and keeping the social distance.   I hope everyone takes care and  is safe, happy and healthy.

As you know, Red-eared Sliders have been popular with pet shops for years and periodically people who tire of them release them into the waterways. Traditionally here they did not survive our cold winters but that has changed in recent years and this species is seen all too frequently in our wetlands, to the detriment of native species.

That was a very nice walk that you too on us today, Eileen, your knowledge of birds always impresses me as I am hopeless at remembering them! We are enjoying walks in our local park now, masks outside are not required in UK but we do wear them when grocery shopping.

I'm glad you have good places to walk and can enjoy the beauty of nature. Love the turtle and the birds you see. I'm not getting out as much because of the heat now so I really appreciate the beauty when I do! Enjoy your day!

The daylilies make me think of my mother! Her yard was always full of them in that same color. Your world is always so beautiful and I'm so happy that in spite of the virus you're still able to get out

Great to see the natural beauty around you...and I hope young people will grow and mature and notice the earth is their mother.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful spot where people like to hang out. I do wish humankind were taught to be a little kinder when visiting such places. When I see trash carelessly dropped, the reaction is similar to when people gather shoulder to shoulder without masks. Words like selfish and short-sighted come to mind.

Wonderful photos. You know, I never think of turtles having ears -- red or otherwise. I learn something new every day.

It must be delightful to walk along a road with so many lilies...
The turtle is a nice critter.
Have a great new week with many walks!

Wonderful photos, Eileen. I love the Chipping Sparrow, you caught it singing to the world.
Enjoy your day and have a great new week!

Another terrific walk! The daylilies are so pretty.

I loved seeing your day lilies, Eileen-- my mother always had them in her garden. Lilies are favorite deer food here so I can't plant them where I live. I never thought of turtles having ears, and certainly not red ones! That was an interesting photo and a very descriptive name for the turtle. I know what you mean about teenagers leaving garbage behind--they do that here too at times-- a very discouraging trend. We are still being socially responsible and wearing our masks when we are out among people and trying to stay home as much as possible. I hope the virus numbers go down soon and that everyone remains patient until they do.

Great capture of the singing sparrow!!

The sparrow looks like it has two beaks. We have wrens and nuthatches but the rest of your flock would be unusual to see here in southwest VA.

If you keep your eyes open on a monday morning you can hear or see many interesting critters.

Sondra said...

Hi Eileen, I love day lilies, and mine have died off during the years I hope to get some new ones I like all the colors...I have mainly the old time orange ones..And a few of the dark copper color ones...The turtle is a pretty one, the only introduced species I can't make peace with is fire ants..:o)Your Bird by Ear list was a good one. Same thing is happening here Im hearing more than I'm seeing. Have a good week.

Eileen - I would love to go on a walk with you so that you could help me identify the birds I hear singing around here!!! You inspire me to learn more birdsong - I think I would have an easier time finding them in the trees if I knew what I was looking for! Thanks for sharing your neighborhood nature with everyone at Mosaic Monday.

Hi Eileen, I love that you captured the little sparrow in song. How precious. The reservoir looks very peaceful. Is there a reservoir and a lake nearby or just one body of water? Either way it draws in a lot of wildlife and makes it so interesting on your walks. Have a wonderful week ahead. xx

You live in such a pretty area. I had a red-eared turtle in my garden earlier in the spring. I think I mistakenly called it a red-eyed turtle; ha, ha. We are doing much of the same, staying close to home and trying to enjoy our close surroundings. Take care.

Eileen, those are great shots of the Eastern Kingbird. I see a tiny something hanging from the bird's beak. A remnant of a snack or a snack in the waiting.

It amazes me that daylilies grow in the wild. I've only seen them in yards and flower shops. Well, maybe those in the shops are tiger lilies. I wonder if tiger lilies could grow in the wild there. Cheers!
