Happy Monday!
We are still staying close to home on most days, taking local walks on the fire road and to the lake. We do have many choices which direction to walk and which section of the lake we want to see. These are some views from our walk to the lake on June 28th.
The roadside daylilies are blooming now, we saw some on our walk to the lake and there were some growing by the lake.
The Chipping Sparrow was sitting on a wire just singing a song.
A view of the reservoir, we saw a few fishermen out in their boats. I heard more birds than I saw, here is a little list of birds I heard on my walk: Black-throated Blue Warbler, Pine Warbler, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Worm-eating Warbler, Ovenbird, Northern Cardinal, Mourning Dove, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Northern Parula, Carolina Wren, Eastern Wood-Pewee, White-breasted Nuthatch and the Great Crested Flycatcher.
Not the best lighting, the Eastern Kingbird was seen in a tree next to the lake. You can just barely make out the white on this bird's tail feathers, a sure sign of it being the Eastern Kingbird.
I noticed the Red-eared Slider Turtle across from us at the cove.
A different view of the lake, this is a section where the local teenagers like to hang out. I do not mind them hanging out there, I just wish they would not leave behind their trash.
A beautiful world starts with you, we have one planet to call home. Please take care of our earth, our home.
We are staying safe, wearing our mask and keeping the social distance. I hope everyone takes care and is safe, happy and healthy.

Thanks for visiting and commenting, have a happy day and a great new week!
As you know, Red-eared Sliders have been popular with pet shops for years and periodically people who tire of them release them into the waterways. Traditionally here they did not survive our cold winters but that has changed in recent years and this species is seen all too frequently in our wetlands, to the detriment of native species.
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteIt is a shame people are releasing their pets into the wild. I read these Red-Eared Turtles are not native in Maryland. Thanks for the comment. Have a happy day and a great week ahead.

Take care, enjoy your day!
That was a very nice walk that you too on us today, Eileen, your knowledge of birds always impresses me as I am hopeless at remembering them! We are enjoying walks in our local park now, masks outside are not required in UK but we do wear them when grocery shopping.
ReplyDeleteHappy MM

Thanks Maggie, I belonged to the local bird club. I learn many birds through our bird walks.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great week ahead.
I'm glad you have good places to walk and can enjoy the beauty of nature. Love the turtle and the birds you see. I'm not getting out as much because of the heat now so I really appreciate the beauty when I do! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteHello Diane,
DeleteIt is great to go out for a walk, when the weather is nice. It is getting hot and humid here too.
Thanks for the comment. Have a happy day and a great week ahead.
The daylilies make me think of my mother! Her yard was always full of them in that same color. Your world is always so beautiful and I'm so happy that in spite of the virus you're still able to get out
ReplyDeleteHello Sandra,
DeleteWe are happy to take our local walks. Not many people are seen, which is good.
Thanks for the comment. Have a happy day and a great week ahead.
Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteThe dayliles are so pretty, and they are blooming here too. Beautiful sparrows and turtles.
Enjoy your day!
Hello Marit,
DeleteThe daylilies are pretty, thank for the comment.
Enjoy your day!
That lake looks so peaceful! I could really use some time by one.
ReplyDeleteHello Rose,
DeleteThe nearby lake is nice. Thanks for the comment.
Have a happy day and a great week ahead.
Great to see the natural beauty around you...and I hope young people will grow and mature and notice the earth is their mother.
ReplyDeleteHello Barbara,
DeleteI wish the young people cared more about our earth.
Thanks for the comment. Have a happy day and a great week ahead.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful spot where people like to hang out. I do wish humankind were taught to be a little kinder when visiting such places. When I see trash carelessly dropped, the reaction is similar to when people gather shoulder to shoulder without masks. Words like selfish and short-sighted come to mind.
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteI agree, everyone should be wearing a mask in public area.
The people leaving their trash are selfish people.
Thanks for the comment. Have a happy day and a great week ahead.
Wonderful photos. You know, I never think of turtles having ears -- red or otherwise. I learn something new every day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie!
DeleteI learn new things every day too.
Have a happy day and a great week ahead.
It must be delightful to walk along a road with so many lilies...
ReplyDeleteThe turtle is a nice critter.
Have a great new week with many walks!
Thank you, I do love seeing all the critters.
DeleteHave a happy day!
Wonderful photos, Eileen. I love the Chipping Sparrow, you caught it singing to the world.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day and have a great new week!
Thank you Bill!
DeleteHave a great day!
Another terrific walk! The daylilies are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen!
DeleteEnjoy your day, have a great new week!!
I loved seeing your day lilies, Eileen-- my mother always had them in her garden. Lilies are favorite deer food here so I can't plant them where I live. I never thought of turtles having ears, and certainly not red ones! That was an interesting photo and a very descriptive name for the turtle. I know what you mean about teenagers leaving garbage behind--they do that here too at times-- a very discouraging trend. We are still being socially responsible and wearing our masks when we are out among people and trying to stay home as much as possible. I hope the virus numbers go down soon and that everyone remains patient until they do.
ReplyDeleteHello, Pat
DeleteThe deer have eaten all our daylilies, they do not last long.
Maryland has been doing well, keeping the virus numbers down.
Take care and stay safe! Thanks for the comment. Enjoy your day!
I really like all the birds you meet in the wild
ReplyDeleteI like all the birds too.
DeleteThank you for the comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!
Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment.
DeleteEnjoy your day, have a great new week!!
I'm so impressed by all of the birds that you can recognize from their songs, Eileen! The Day Lilies are out here too.
ReplyDeleteOver the years, I have learned a lot of bird songs.
DeleteThank you for the comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!

ReplyDeleteHello Beth, thank you for the comment. It is dry here too, we could use some rain!
DeleteEnjoy your day, have a great new week!!
Your lake is so beautiful. Do you have a place where you can go swimming? Love to see the turtles and birds.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Hello,
DeleteThanks, we are not allowed to swim in the local reservoir. You can fish and hunt or take your kayak or boat on the lake. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!
I always like your turtle pictures.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture of the singing sparrow!!
Thanks Karen! These sparrows can sing loud. Have a great day!
DeleteThe sparrow looks like it has two beaks. We have wrens and nuthatches but the rest of your flock would be unusual to see here in southwest VA.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!
DeleteIf you keep your eyes open on a monday morning you can hear or see many interesting critters.
ReplyDeleteThanks Red! I try to notice all critters and sights on our walks. Enjoy your day, have a great week ahead!
DeleteHi Eileen, I love day lilies, and mine have died off during the years I hope to get some new ones I like all the colors...I have mainly the old time orange ones..And a few of the dark copper color ones...The turtle is a pretty one, the only introduced species I can't make peace with is fire ants..:o)Your Bird by Ear list was a good one. Same thing is happening here Im hearing more than I'm seeing. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteHello Sondra,
DeleteI had to look up this Red-eared Slider, it is not native in Maryland. I thought they were, thanks for the heads up. I have come to learn the sounds of most birds breeding in the nearby forest, some of them come into our yard. Thanks for the comment and visit. Happy Birding, enjoy your day!
That Kingbird is special for me to see. Glad you can still walk and enjoy time comfortably and safely. Hope you have a great Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ellen! Enjoy your day!
DeleteThat sparrow is adorable. Good to hear that you are enjoying your walks at the lake.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!
DeleteEileen - I would love to go on a walk with you so that you could help me identify the birds I hear singing around here!!! You inspire me to learn more birdsong - I think I would have an easier time finding them in the trees if I knew what I was looking for! Thanks for sharing your neighborhood nature with everyone at Mosaic Monday.
ReplyDeleteHello Angie,
DeleteThank you, I have been hearing these birds for years now. They breed in the forest next to our home.
I do enjoy hearing and seeing the birds. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!
Lovely pics :) Have a nice week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!
DeleteHi Eileen, I love that you captured the little sparrow in song. How precious. The reservoir looks very peaceful. Is there a reservoir and a lake nearby or just one body of water? Either way it draws in a lot of wildlife and makes it so interesting on your walks. Have a wonderful week ahead. xx
ReplyDeleteHello Penny,
DeleteThis lake is one of the 3 reservoirs providing water for Baltimore City. Thank you for the comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!
You see so many critters & blooms of different ones we see this time of year. Lovin' this post & photos!
ReplyDeleteHello Anni,
DeleteThank you for the comment. Enjoy your day!
You live in such a pretty area. I had a red-eared turtle in my garden earlier in the spring. I think I mistakenly called it a red-eyed turtle; ha, ha. We are doing much of the same, staying close to home and trying to enjoy our close surroundings. Take care.
ReplyDeleteTake care and stay safe! Thank you for the comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!!
DeleteThat’s a long list of birds to sound wonder! Lovely shots on the birds, lake and day lilies… Glad you staying safe and enjoying nature close by.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and visit. Have a great day!
DeleteWhat more do you need? Nature, water, day lillies...ahh the good life.

DeleteThis looks like a lovely place to explore, and a beautiful day to be out and about. Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and visit. Have a great day!
DeleteEileen, those are great shots of the Eastern Kingbird. I see a tiny something hanging from the bird's beak. A remnant of a snack or a snack in the waiting.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me that daylilies grow in the wild. I've only seen them in yards and flower shops. Well, maybe those in the shops are tiger lilies. I wonder if tiger lilies could grow in the wild there. Cheers!
Hello,
DeleteI have seen some wild tiger lilies, they grow close to the lake shore. Thank you for visiting.
Have a happy day!
A great series of photos!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful week!
Thank you Lea! Have a great day!
DeleteGreat pictures, as always. My mother used to call those lilies Railroad Lilies, because the grew all along the tracks on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where my grandmother lived.
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteThe roadside daylilies are a beautiful sight to see! Thank you for the comment and visit. Have a great day!
It is such a pretty lake! Thank you for taking us along on your walks. Enjoyed all that you saw. I liked the collages with the colored frames too. Enjoy the rest of your week :)

Thanks for taking us on your walk---whew, I needed that.
ReplyDeleteYou have an amazing knowledge of birds and their songs. Wow!
MB
Thanks MB! I've had many years to learn all these birds songs. Enjoy your day!
DeleteLove the flowers by the road. I've been going on lots of walks to take out the stress from work. It's a mental battle to stay positive for me these days. Near the water is where I find most relaxing. I wish we have one nearby.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and visit. Have a great day!
Deletei always enjoy seeing the daylilies along the roadside. they are so pretty, and i especially love the orange ones. the sparrow is adorable, you captures him at a great angle....
ReplyDeleteall beautiful images, it's good you are getting out. the heat is keeping me indoors more than i would like and i have been enjoying our pool!!
Thanks Debbie, The orange daylilies are my favorite, we see lots of them along the roads here.
DeleteHave a great day, enjoy the pool!
Wonderful photographs, I especially like the Chipping Sparrow …
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a good week.
All the best Jan
So nice that you have some greenery around where you are. (It's gotten very hot and dry around where we are :-\) Enjoy the lovely weather, the greenery and the birds.
ReplyDeleteStay happy, stay healthy, Eileen. :)
those lilies are beautiful! Great list of birds you saw too and I agree with your comment about the teenagers and their trash!
ReplyDeleteStaying close to home also gives some kind of charm :-)
ReplyDeleteYou will see flora and fauna that you are now looking at with different eyes, I think. They are also really nice flowers on the roadside, but also the view, the birds and the turtles are very nice to see.
Greetings, Helma
I like that turtle.
