Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
Hubby and I went to see the Snow Geese at the Middle Creek WMA near Stevens Pennsylvania. The visitor center was closed due to Covid but the motor tour was open. The beginning of March the Snow Geese can be seen in huge flocks migrating north. We saw thousands of Snow Geese, lots of Tundra Swans and various ducks. I saw my first of the year Tree Swallows, some Eastern Bluebirds, Red-winged Blackbirds and I could hear Killdeer nearby.
1. Below are the Snow Geese, Tree Swallow, Eastern Bluebird, Ring-necked Ducks, a cute Golden Doodle and a ground hog.
Click on photos for larger viewing..
2. A closeup of a few Snow Geese. It was noted on March 8th there were 120,000 Snow Geese and 1050 Tundra Swans. The numbers of birds sighted can change daily.
3. Tundra Swans in flight.
4. Groups after group of Snow Geese were flying in and landing on the lake.
5. A distant shot of the Snow Geese and lake.
6. The Snow Geese were not social distancing.
7. A few times the Snow Geese would lift off with a loud roar, only to land a few feet away.
8. A group of Ring-necked ducks in front of the Snow Geese.
Crowds of people from all over come to Middle Creek WMA in Lancaster County Pennsylvania to see these Snow Geese. Early March is the best time to see the migration of the spring waterfowl.
Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

The seasonal migrations of swans and geese are truly among the great spectacles of nature. The swans move through southern Ontario in great numbers, but not the geese, unfortunately. I have to travel to see them and of course that is out of the question during COVID.
ReplyDeleteThank you David!
DeleteI am glad we have choices of places to visit during these Covid times.
Take care, have a happy weekend!

Ha, You had me thinking there Eileen. What on earth is a "golden doodle"? I don't think we have them here yet but I wouldn't be surprised. Those are tremendous photos of the throngs of geese and swans and I'm glad it wasn't my job to count them on the day of your visit. It was a great day out for you both. Thanks for the usual link up today.

Looks absolutely a majestic show of snow geese taking off and landing, and its lovely capture on birds in groups and individual! Glad the roadways to parks are opened there. Here the tourist places and natural parks are slowly shutting down as cases of covid are going out of control. I hope the situation is far better where you living. Take care

Hi Eileen, the snow geese are wonderful, love your Tundra flying shot...excellent. A huge flock like that can make quite a sound as they go overhead, its a thrill. Hope your Sunday is peaceful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sondra! The Snow Geese were very loud!
DeleteTake care, have a happy new week!
I'm sorry I'm late with my comment, but I so enjoyed visitig with the snow geese. I don't think I've ever seen one, let alone so many of them. The raven is the dominant bird around my place, the one seen and noticed most often, but we have a large variety of birds. House finches nest under my roof, scrub jays, mountain bluebirds, and, of course, the California quail. I'm not that good at taking their picture though.
ReplyDeleteThank you Inger! The Raven is a cool bird, we have more crows around here.
DeleteIt sounds like you see a nice variety of birds around your place.
Take care, have a happy new week!
