Saturday's Critters # 383

 Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Hubby and I went to see the Snow Geese at the Middle Creek WMA near Stevens Pennsylvania. The visitor center was closed due to Covid but the motor tour was open. The beginning of March the Snow Geese can be seen in huge flocks migrating north. We saw thousands of Snow Geese,  lots of Tundra Swans and various ducks. I saw my first of the year Tree Swallows, some Eastern Bluebirds, Red-winged Blackbirds and I could hear Killdeer nearby.

1. Below are the Snow Geese, Tree Swallow, Eastern Bluebird, Ring-necked Ducks, a cute Golden Doodle and a ground hog.

Click on photos for larger viewing..

2. A closeup of a few Snow Geese. It was noted on March 8th there were 120,000 Snow Geese and 1050 Tundra Swans. The numbers of birds sighted can change daily.

3. Tundra Swans in flight.

4. Groups after group of Snow Geese were flying in and landing on the lake.

5. A distant shot of the Snow Geese and lake.

6. The Snow Geese  were not social distancing.

7. A few times the Snow Geese would lift off with a loud roar, only to land a few feet away.

8. A group of Ring-necked ducks in front of the Snow Geese.

Crowds of people from all over come to Middle Creek WMA in Lancaster County Pennsylvania to see these Snow Geese. Early March is the best time to see the migration of the spring waterfowl.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Here is my linky:

What a wonderful opportunity to see the migrating snow geese. A motor tour will be the safer alternative. We don't get to enjoy such opportunity here. Take care and stay safe.

LOL, I would really want to see all those Snow geese in action. If Covid ever calmes down I see if there is a possible to go see them. I doubt it but one can wish. Right? Nice see the Tree Swallow and Eastern Bluebird too. I think we have to wait another month before any swallow arrives.
Take care!

The massive numbers is just amazing to me! By the time they get here, the geese, especially, are splitting up. Thanks for hosting! We're off to get our vaccines. Talk to you on the other side!

The seasonal migrations of swans and geese are truly among the great spectacles of nature. The swans move through southern Ontario in great numbers, but not the geese, unfortunately. I have to travel to see them and of course that is out of the question during COVID.

Marie Smith said...

I have never seen such a flock. They must be a thing of beauty to behold. I would love to see them one day. The ducks don’t appear to mind being around them.

I'm sorry I'm late with my comment, but I so enjoyed visitig with the snow geese. I don't think I've ever seen one, let alone so many of them. The raven is the dominant bird around my place, the one seen and noticed most often, but we have a large variety of birds. House finches nest under my roof, scrub jays, mountain bluebirds, and, of course, the California quail. I'm not that good at taking their picture though.

eileeninmd said...

Thank you Inger! The Raven is a cool bird, we have more crows around here.
It sounds like you see a nice variety of birds around your place.
Take care, have a happy new week!

Hi Eileen!
I love the snow geese and swans. When I was a little girl I used to collect swan figurines as I loved books with swan stories and illustrations in them. We have been having snowfalls here and the weather is very changeable. Spring is taking its time t appear in Colorado!
