Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I have some various yard birds and some neighborhood birds seen during one of our fire road walks to the lake. These may be the same birds seen on different days, from late December and early January.
1. Seen outside my windows in December, the Hermit Thrush and a Northern Mockingbird.
2. Our Prettyboy reservoir, Belted Kingfisher and a few Canada Geese.
3. A Belted Kingfisher seen at our local lake.
4. A Hermit Thrush is seen often outside my den window, I keep my exercise bike right in front of the window. I get to watch the birds while riding.
5. Our first accumulated snow storm was on Jan 6th, we woke up to around 5 inches of snow on the ground.
6. Jan 8th, I watched this Mockingbird in my yard, it found some berries and snow to eat.
7. Northern Mockingbird was seen eating snow of the top of the bird house below.
Our Grand-dogs have been keeping us busy, they are fun to have as house guests. Nibbles is a Shepherd mix and Winnie is the Corgi.
Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful series of photos and collages these are.
How nice that it has snowed with you, here only fog and rain, this year it has not really been winter yet.
The kingfisher is really beautiful, we don't see this species here in the Netherlands.
How nice that Wyatt is getting a brother or sister.
Would you mind posting my link??
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma!
DeleteWyatt will have a little brother to play with.
Have a great day and a happy weekend.
As always, you are blessed with so many different types of birds to photograph. I do miss having pet dogs and miss hugging them and playing with them. Wyatt is cute and will make a wonderful big brother. Congrats to you too. Keep warm and stay safe.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nancy!
DeleteThe dogs do love attention, lots of hugs.
Have a great day and a happy weekend.
Wyatt is lovely. I am sure he loves to play with your grand dogs.
ReplyDeleteMany beautiful birds, I hope they succeed in finding something to eat despite the cold and the ice.
Here the Canada geese are "disappeared" at the lake but they will come back very soon.
Have a great week end.
Thank you for the comment and visit.
DeleteThe geese are plentiful around here, year round.
Have a great day and a happy weekend.
Mucha nieve tenéis, por aquí heladas y mucho frío. Wyatt ya casi listo y pronto caminará solo. Que guapo está.
ReplyDeleteBuen fin de semana.
Abrazos.
Thank you Laura!
DeleteHave a great day and a happy weekend.
lol, your family is growing by the day. With both two and four legged ones it seems. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the birds. I´m not sure I have seen the Belted Kingfisher. I have seen a few kingfishers but they were mostly more colored.
Cool to see the Mockingbird eating snow. Maybe there was somthing it discoverd in the snow. Or another way of drinking water :)
Thank you Monica!
DeleteYes, the family is growing quickly.

nice variety of birds. Now that I am living up north you give me hope of seeing a mockingbird. As a kid in New Jersey I had to visit family in Annapolis to see my first one. Now they have spread far to the north. Wyatt looks like a proud brother-to-be.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken!
DeleteI hope you see a Mockingbird there soon.
Have a great day and a happy weekend.
Yay! Another little sweetie to love. I love the bird photos, Eileen, but Wyatt wins the day!

The Hermit Thrush is splendid, love it Eileen.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bob!
DeleteHave a great weekend!
Wyatt and his little brother can grow up together since they are so close in age. I love that cute kingfisher and of course LOVE the dogs. Not sure if I even told you my son and his wife, the one in TN at one time had 1 Male Chihuahua, 1 male Corgie just like yours, and 5 Chi-Corgies that looked just like their momma, they sold 3 kept 2 had 5 more and at one time had 7 Chi-Corgies for years. The mama lived to 16 the Chihuahua lived to 20 and just dies last year, the last puppy died last year at 18
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra! Wyatt and his brother will be Irish twins. It seems like the mixed breed dogs live longer than the pedigree dogs. I have never had a dog live 20 years, that is amazing. Have a great weekend.
DeleteThe kingfisher looks quite distinctive.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill!
DeleteHave a happy weekend!

Extra...extra...that IS exciting news! I know everyone is happy about that! What a cutie Wyatt is! And it's neat to see your pretty snow and the birds enjoying the feeders. LOVE seeing and hearing Kingfishers! They are beautiful birds. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane!
DeleteIt is a treat to see the Kingfishers.
We are excited for Wyatt and the family!
Take care, enjoy your weekend!
Hi Eileen, and congratulations to your family!! I always enjoy seeing a hermit thrush and had one taking a snow bath on the top of a post here this morning. I was so tempted to drive up to DC and see the snowy owl...if it was not IN the city it'self I almost think I'd go for it. I enjoyed all your photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra! Duchess the Snowy Owl has been seen often on the Md Birding facebook page. She must have her favorite place to perch on top of Union Station. Plenty of rats in DC to eat. Happy birding, enjoy your weekend.
DeleteOh WOW, Eileen, I have been off this meme for an age. Congratulations on the news of another grandchild. Wyatt is a handsome lad already. I love your granddogs as well. Thank you for visiting my blog even while I have been so absent from visiting yours. Have a great day. Jo

ReplyDeleteThank you Alan! Take care, enjoy your weekend!
DeleteHello Eileen. I have been seeing a lot of the Belted Kingfisher on other blogs, unfortunately not first hand. I didn't know that birds ate snow, a way of drinking water I suppose. Great news about you becoming a Grandma for the second time Eileen, and company for Wyatt. Many Congratulations!:=))
ReplyDeleteThank you Sonjia! It was a treat to see the Kingfisher, usually they spook easily.
DeleteWe are excited to have another grandchild, it will be great for Wyatt to have a sibling.
Take care, enjoy your weekend!
5 in of snow makes things attractive.
ReplyDeleteThank you Red! it is so cold, those 5 inches are taking a long time to melt.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your weekend!
Hi Eileen. I always think of a mockingbird as being quite good sized bird and then I remembered how much of the size belongs to that sticky up tail that you captured so well.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how Nibbles and Winni get on together? They do look to be best of friends.
Congrats in advance to both you and Big Bro. More babysitting to come for you and hubby. Enjoy.
Thanks for the link today and have great week.
Thank you Phil! Winnie and Nibbles get along fine, they are both good dogs.
DeleteWe are excited about the new grandson, the family is growing quickly.

The only birds I have been seeing are starlings and House Sparrows. Also a few hawks way up in the sky but it has been very cold here and all the creatures are hunkered down somewhere.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the coming addition to the family.
Thank you RedPat!
DeleteI've been seeing the Vultures flying high up in the sky.
Take care, have a happy weekend!
Hi Eileen, Thank you for sharing your photos. Neat photos of the Belted Kingfisher! Your shot of Prettyboy reservoir reminds me of my walk this morning … Puget Sound was like a mirror … so perfectly smooth. Great idea to watch the birds while on the exercise bike. Image #5 You sure got a good snow. It looks like about the same amount we got in early January. I’ll bet folks in Maryland know how to drive in the snow. Unlike Seattle :-) Wyatt looks so happy. Congrats on a brother on the way! Happy weekend and week ahead to you and yours. John
ReplyDeleteThank you John! LOL, the drivers in Maryland are not that good. Many drive too fast on icy roads. Wyatt is a happy boy, always a joy to visit. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
