Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
The days are just flying by, we have not been anywhere special yet. We are still taking our local walks around our neighborhood and to the lake. The grand-dogs are home with my son and his family now, we do have a weekend of dog-sitting at my son's home.
1. Aug 29th, our walk was to the front and to the lake. I was surprised to see 2 Green Herons perched close by on a downed tree at the lake, we also saw 2 Great Blue Herons and a Double-crested Cormorant.
2. Red-spotted Purple butterfly or also known as Limenitis arthemis.
3. It is not often, I get to see two Green Heron so close together. Maybe they had a nest close by.
4. August 29th, one of two Great Blue Herons seen by our lake. I had to take this shot through a lot of tree branches.
5. Aug 29th, back at home I am distracted by the hummingbird at the feeder on the deck, this mosaic below is the same hummer in each photo. On the larger photo you can see a bit of the ruby-throat, it is a juvenile male. He is a cutie, already chasing away other birds from "his" feeder.
6. Sept 2, one of my favorite walks with the dogs is to the lake. On this day we saw the usual Great Blue Heron hanging out and a Belted Kingfisher perched in a usual spot.
7. Sept 2nd, another look at the Great Blue Heron at the lake.
8. Sept 2nd, back at home and in our yard. The Mourning Doves like to sit on top of our swing. Not the best photo taken through my dining room window.
Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Dear Eileen, it was again very nice to accompany you on your walks! I was delighted to see the butterfly and all the beautiful birds. And as always, it was nice to see your granddogs. So now they're back home with their families and you're sitting them this weekend. You will probably then have more time for longer trips. But I still hope that we get to see the two cuties again from time to time <3
ReplyDeleteHugs and all the best,
Traude

....the Red-spotted Purple butterfly is new for me, it's a beauty! Thanks Eileen for hosting the party.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tom! It is a pretty butterfly.
DeleteTake care, have a great weekend.
Nice to catch the two Green Herons together. They sometimes are hard to find even when in plain sight. The butterfly has subtle beauty. Our hummingbirds have nearly disappeared-- only saw one yesterday. None of our juvenile males had full development of the striped throat markings-- just splotchy dark spots.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken! It took me years to find my very first Green Heron. I am always happy to see them. I only have a few Hummers here now, most of left already. Take care, have a great weekend.
DeleteYou have such amazing walks! I'm happy to capture our wild critters, though. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenn!
DeleteTake care, have a great weekend.
Your dogs must love these nature walks! Enjoy your weekend and have fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane! The dogs did enjoy their walks.
DeleteTake care, have a great weekend.
Hi Eileen, I like what you said, “The days are just flying by, we have not been anywhere special yet.” I know what you mean, but the way I see it, any walk you take around your neighborhood and to the lake is “special”. 😊 In this post, my favorites are the Red-spotted Purple butterfly, the Great Blue Heron, and, of course, the hummingbird. Today I’m linking up with a post full of postcards. Some have critters on them, so I hope that qualifies for Saturday’s Critters. 😊 A happy weekend to you and yours! John
ReplyDeleteThank you John! We missed taking our trips while dog-sitting for 8 months. This weekend will be the last for a while of dog-sitting. At least the dogs are home with my son and his family now. BTW, I enjoyed your Yellowstone postcards.
DeleteTake care, have a great weekend.
Delightful photos, Eileen! I love that butterfly! When I think that we're well past the middle of September, I too ask myself where has this year gone?
ReplyDeleteThank you Nick! I think our summer just flew by, I am not ready for winter just yet.

Beautiful Ruby-Throated Hummingbird image Eileen, fantastic, and the Butterfly, that is the winner.
ReplyDeleteHello Bob,
DeleteThank you for the comment and visit.
Take care, Happy Sunday, have a great new week.
I love the spotted purples. So here, I'm across from a mapped wetlands where red-winged blackbirds nest every year. Many, many of them. And they prevent the blue herons from coming in: mobbing them and beating them out. I never knew where the herons were coming from until I finally saw their nests at an entire other pond about 4 miles away (by car). But as soon as the blackbirds leave (which is sooner than the other birds), the herons move in.
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteI have never seen the Blackbird bothering the herons here. It is nice you have a heron nest nearby.
Thank you for the comment and link. Have a great day and happy new week!

Beijinhos
Ana

Dearest Eileen; I always feel little jealous with your beautiful full of nature blog posts. Loved "Ruby-throated Hummingbirds" a lot. Recently we held late mother of my husband's 50th memorial anniversary & other family matters a bit. As always, LOVED your nature post; Lots of love Miyako
