Saturday's Critters #81

Saturday's Critters #81

Happy 4th of July everyone! It is Independence Day for the United States, the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776. It is also a day for families and friends to enjoy the parades, fireworks and the BBQ's. Have fun and be safe!

It's Saturday and it's time to share your critters.. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who has linked up in the past and for those who are linking in on this week's critter party. And of course I always appreciate my blogging friends stopping by just for a visit.

For my critters I am sharing some shots of the Black Vulture and our grandpuppy Nibbles. We watched Nibbles for four days while my son went on a little vacation. It was fun having a dog around the house and Nibbles was well behaved during her visit.

This Black Vulture was eating the peanut suet balls I put on our deck railing for the song birds.

When I looked out, there were 4 Black Vultures on our deck. Three were on the pergola and one walking around.

I am not sure what attracted these Black Vultures to our deck. They were eating the regular bird food and drinking water I put out for my yardbirds.

Nibbles was not happy seeing the Black Vulture out on our deck. She was looking out the window whining and crying.

Nibbles, hubby and I took a walk on our local fireroad trail near our house.

Isn't Nibbles cute?

A bunny seen on our deck. The bunny has to hop up a few steps to get to this spot.

Nibbles says goodbye for now, she will be back to visit again in July..I hope you enjoyed my photos and critter post. Now, I am looking forward to see your critters. Thanks for your visits and comments. Have a happy weekend!

Above is a Youtube video of the Black Vultures on the street in front of our house.  A dangerous place for them to hang out.

Thanks to Tex Theresa aka Tex, I was able to add this link up button and thanks to  Jennifer for creating my photo badge.

  4. Hi Eileen,
    Happy 4th!

I can associate with Nibbles. I would be a bit curious too, if I saw those Black Vultures on my deck.
But, they are majestic and beautiful like many other creations of nature.
Glad you got to see them outside of a zoo.

Thanks for hosting the Saturday's Critters Meme.

    Have a Wonderful Weekend!
    Peace :)

  6. Hello Eileen, what a wonderful post! The vultures are fascinating. Imagine having them on your balcony! I loved seeing their walk and even one of them running in the movie, though I do hope they watch out for the cars. Nibbles is adorable! Black Jack would have totally lost it if she had seen that rabbit. :) Have a very happy Saturday and happy Independence Day as well!

  9. Nice post. Must be strange to have vultures on you deck. Is it too hot and dry so that is why? Great shots anyway.

And little Nibbles is gorgeous :)

    Thanks for hosting!

  10. The vulture looks so smug and why not. It is a potent force in the bird fraternity

  11. Happy national day, wonderfull series fotos, greeting from Belgium with a hot weather!

  12. That would be a little spooky, I'm glad the vultures can't make gloomy comments. I don't blame the cute dog for whining. But Nibbles looks like he enjoyed the walk, anyway.

  13. I love all critters in your pictures,
especially Nibbles, she is very cute :)
I still can't stand vultures, but the
pictures and the video you took are great :)
They seem to have a very heavy butt :))

Happy 4th and a happy weekend to you!

  19. Hi Eileen. Lovely shots and video clip of the Vultures who are obviously opportunistic feeders taking advantage of your handouts.

Nibbles looks very contented. Have a great Independence Day.

  20. Brilliant shots of the vultures Eileen. How strange they decided to eat peanuts in your yard unless there was a shortage of their natural food or they are becoming adept at exploiting new sources of food?

Very wise of Nibbles to not wish to become a "nibble" to the vultures.

    Have a happy weekend.

  21. Nibbles is soooooo beautiful I want to hug him... I have never seen vultures at a bird feeder.. very strange... great shots of them.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Awwwwwwwwwww, love the Nibbles~~she's a doll face.

And it's strange to have a vulture eating peanuts. You'd think they'd prefer Road Kill Cafe just down the street a bit instead....maybe the cafe was closed for the holidays? Or the health department shut 'em down....y'never know.

Crikey, your deck is ALIVE with critters - the vultures are amazing, even if uninvited... and your Nibbles is adorable!!! (You'll have gathered by now I'm partial to pupsters &*>) YAM xx

  26. The week for buzzards I see. And we both had four. Loved the video; especially when one of them went into a little trot!
    Thanks for hosting. Such fun!

    ReplyDelete
  27. They may have learned to look for dog/cat food in peoples' back yards. There must be a serious shortage of roadkill, but by walking in the roadway they may be doing something to alleviate this!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I guess it's a dangerous place to hangout! They are a lovely creature, as are all your critter photos today! Sounds like you had a wonderful walk with such a cutie pie pup, and the bunny close-up is very precious too. Do enjoy your Fourth of July celebrations and be safe too!

  29. Happy Fourth, Eileen. Wonderful pictures. Nibbles has the sweetest face. I know you enjoyed her company. Thanks for hosting.

  30. Happy 4th Eileen! Wow that is amazing to see those vultures....we see red-headed turkey vultures from time to time flying over but they never land here. I did spot our little bunny up on the patio sniffing in the pots...thankfully I net many I know are a temptation....I am linking in my hummer story...thanks for hosting!

  31. We have way too many vultures here in Fl lots of roadkill for them I guess

  33. It must have been interesting but also somewhat off putting to have the Black Vultures right there at your home. Enjoy your 4th of July!

  34. Is that Nibbles your new dog? Lovely video of the Black Vultures.

  35. nibbles is a cutie. :) i think black vultures are very handsome. i love all their shades of gray and their stout build.

happy 4th to you, eileen! thanks, always, for being a great host!

  36. "Isn't Nibbles cute?" Definitely ...

I also like the rabbit - not so sure about the vultures, but our world has many varieties of species we should embrace them all.

    Have an especially nice weekend.

    All the best Jan

  37. Not sure if I would want those vultures around but I would enjoy a visit with your " grandddog!"
Happy Fourth of July weekend Eileen . . .
    Thanks for hosting Saturday's Critters.

  38. Hi Eileen, Wow, that first pic of the Black Vulture is awesome ... almost looks like a statue. Neat capture! Love the last picture of Nibbles ... he is cute! Happy 4th of July to you and yours! Excellent Saturday Critters post!

  39. Unusual feeder birds! Very sinister-looking. Nibbles is a beautiful pup.

  40. Great pic of the vultures! The only ones I usually see are turkey vultures.

Can't blame Nibbles for being concerned!

  43. I don't know if I would like having Vultures hanging around. I'd wonder if they knew something I should know---LOL!
    Have a happy 4th!

  44. Nibbles is such a cutie, and can't believe you had a black vulture on your deck! That is strange but wonderful, in my opinion!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Those funny vultures! That was a delightful thing to see this morning. And that delightful bunny! And I loved your sweet pups!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love the Vultures ... they are such cool birds. The Black Vultures are more aggressive than the Turkey Vulture and often takes over the Turkey Vultures meal once he has found it. The Black Vultures follow the TV around because the TV has a sense of smell that can smell carrion from as far as 10 miles. Then there is Nibbles ... do you have to ask if he is cute? He is just adorable. Has the perfect German Shepherd head, but the rest of him is something else :) Do you know what breed he is? I love all of your pictures and am so jealous that you have such interesting characters that come right up on your deck. You must live in the perfect spot :) Great post, Eileen. And, yes I am enjoying my new camera and getting a little better at managing it ... thanks for asking.

  51. Wow---the Vultures are huge --when their wings are spread, aren't they???? I've never seen any around here --but we do have Turkey Vultures around... They've never come close to my yard though...

Nibbles is gorgeous... Does that make you and hubby WANT another one?????

Happy 4th to you and yours.

  52. Nice to see some photos of Nibbles again, guess he'll be back soon.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hi Eileen! That Nibbles is really a cutie -- The vultures on the other hands, have faces only a Mother can love! Funny that you would have them on your deck, I've never heard of them eating bird food, I guess there wasn't anything "fresh" for them!

I do hope you're doing well, and despite our weather, I hope your 4th is fun and safe!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hi Eileen, Happy Independence Day! Glad you had fun with Nibbles. Seems like a nice dog. The Black Vultures are neat! Don't know what may have attracted them to your yard. Perhaps they just were hungry and thirsty. Perhaps something was in need of the clean-up squad in the region. Who can say? Have a pleasant Sunday tomorrow. Enjoy the fireworks if you have any near or even if only virtually.

  57. Wow, that is really nice ! I like Nibbles !

    ReplyDelete
  58. Nibbles is a beauty! I think she wanted to protect you from the birds! The lighting on your first picture is so interesting. It makes the vulture look like he's made of concrete!
We have six cats - since most of them are rescued ferals I know they wouldn't hesitate to take on one of those birds, but I doubt they'd win! Their eyes would pop out of their heads watching out the window though!

  63. Great shots- Nibbles is very handsome! I don't know what it is about those black vultures, but they are pretty scary looking. Not sure I would want several of them hanging around.

Thanks for your kind comment on my post today!

  64. Nibbles is a great name for a pet...my youngest son called his pet guinea pig Nibbles. We don't have vultures here in Australia so it's interesting to read about them and to see what they look like.
Wishing you a happy 4th of July.
