Bird Photography Weekly # 60 Snowy Egret and Camera Critters # 80

The Egrets are elegant birds. Various places I have been birding I have been able to see the Great Egret, Snowy Egret and the Cattle Egret.
Below is a  photo of the Snowy Egret. One distinct difference is the Snowy Egret has yellow feet. See below..now those are yellow feet.

You can click on the picture for a larger image.

The next difference for me is the size the Snowy is just about in the middle of the three Egrets..  This one is doing a little dance.

To see more great bird Photography , please click on my link.

Pictured below is the Snowy Egret dance and is my entry for Bird Photography Weekly # 60.

The Great Egret has black legs and black feet.

The Great Egret is the largest in size and the Cattle Egret the smallest. For me a tell tale sign of the Cattle is Egret is the beige feathers on its head. Also the Cattle Egret has yellow legs and black feet.

Any way you look at an Egret they are all  beautiful birds. Next time you see an Egret check out the legs and feet.

I learned something here. I was in Charleston, SC last weekend and knew the Egrets I saw weren't the Great ones I usually see ;-) They were Snowys. Thanks for these photos of feet and legs! LOL!

Have not seen this Great Egret yet, but the little Egret start appearing here - migrating from the north.
I saw a flight of six flew pass yesterday, and managed to shot a few frame in flight this morning, will post it soon.

Interesting post. Egrets are beautiful; i bought a photograph of an egret once, but I never thought about that there might be more than one type. Maybe I will be able to see the legs & feet, I'll have to look.
Thanks for visiting my sky post!

For the last few years several egrets have found their way to the area I live and stay there during the winter. Every year there are more as well, but I've yet to find out exactly which one: I never get the chance to look at their feet! They are amazing looking though and your photos are great as well.

Lived in FL for a number of years and saw these beautiful birds all the time. I love how white they are and especially like the snowy. Wonderful shots.

The yellow feet look like fancy bird shoes!

BTW, a woozle is a schnauzer beard.

Something about the egrets just captures us - grace, beauty, sinuous lines. Thanks

Indeed beautiful birds and your photos of them are wonderful!
I like the first one with his feet in the water - great capture.
Fluffy feathers in the second.
Thanks for the info. I think what I usually see is the Great but I'm going to look more closely next time.

Very good lesson in telling the white egrets apart! I always remember the snowy because someone else told me when I was first learning that "the snowy egret has yellow boots on to go out in the snow! Now I never forget that one!

I agree, all of the egrets are beautiful birds. The Great Egret is so majestic and the Snowy Egret very elegant, especially with the "golden slippers".

You have to wonder why the Snowy Egret chose such showy boots - they really don't go with the rest of the ensemble! Egrets - wonderful birds and you've captured them beautifully.

Excellent post on the various egrets Eileen. Of course the Snowy dancing is my favorite. They are all fun to watch, with their stealth movements, as they fish the shallows.

Beautiful shots of the Egrets. I do not do as much bird photography as I would like to, but I certainly enjoy looking at the work of others!
