I am linking up with Camera Critters and I'd-rather-b-birdin
It's official Spring has Sprung, but where? Certainly not here, our temp's have been in the 30's and 40's, cold blustery days. This coming Sunday they are calling for another snow/rain event. Did Punxsutawney Phil get it wrong and are we due for more winter weather? Do you even believe a groundhog can predict the weather? I think I hear Florida calling my name.
For this weekend's critter and bird post I have some of my yardbirds from during the week.
One of my pretty White-throated Sparrows, they are a winter bird. I guess that is why I am still seeing them. They know winter has not left yet.
This is a Fox Sparrow, they are also another winter bird for my area. I guess they do not believe it is Spring either. They are pretty with their vivid rust streaks.
The American Goldfinches are one of my year round birds. They usually they wear their dull look in the winter months.
The Pine Siskins are one of the irruptive year birds, they visit in the winter only during certain years. They are always welcome in my yard and at my feeders. They can even bring more of their friends.
The White-Breasted Nuthatch is another one of my year round birds, lately I have been seeing two chasing each other around. Not sure if it two males being territorial or if they are a couple.
One of the many female Cardinals I am seeing in my yard. Pretty soon the territorial couple will chase off all the other Cardinals and I will be left with the mating couple for awhile.
Not sure if this is the Mrs mate, I am seeing at least 5 or 6 male Cardinals in the yard. One will be the lucky guy!
I caught the Bluejay at the birdbath, I guess he/she at sometime has to wash down all those peanuts they eat.
I hope you enjoy my yardbirds, I love to show them all off, they are so pretty. I am not sure how long my winter visitors will be sticking around..not much longer. Thanks for visiting my post and for the nice comments.

ReplyDeleteTenho um filho na Inglaterra e mandou fotos agorinha, com neve lá! beijos, chica
Lovely birds, and caught them really close.
ReplyDeleteA lovely group of shots Eileen! I am really envious of what you get as 'normal' birds, we ahve to put up with Chaffinches and Blackbirds here in the U.K.!
ReplyDeleteJ
You get a nice variety of yard birds too. We have winter birds that have not left yet also. It's still winter here.
ReplyDeleteDearest Eileen,
ReplyDeleteWow!!! I'm really moved by the beauty of these birds(^_^)v How gorgeous to live with them♡♡♡ Thank you very much for the feast for my eyes. Good medicine for my upset stomach p;)
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
Great captures, Eileen! You have such beautiful visitors! The male and female Cardinals are so pretty as is the Nuthatch!
ReplyDeleteThe birds is here to tell you:
ReplyDeleteSpring is coming back.
Don't you love the song birds and back yard birds!! I still need to get a round wire ball like you have for the sunflower seeds! You have a nice assortment of birds!
ReplyDeletebeautiful shots, eileen! really nice up-close and personal portraits!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful photos! I love the fox sparrow and the cardinals!
ReplyDeleteThat little Fox Sparrow needs to receive more credit. Colorings are very nice . . . Great close up photos Eileen . . .
ReplyDeleteYour photographs of these magnificent little creatures are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing them. Two days ago I spotted a few Cardinals so yes even though there's still snow on ground here the birds are telling us spring has arrived.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, Eileen! We don't have siskins or nuthatches, unfortunately. Love your shots of the cardinals and White-throated Sparrow!
ReplyDeleteThey are all such pretty birds! Some I have not seen before. :)
ReplyDeletedie Erzeisige sind auch hier am Futterhaus und unser Wetter ist auch kein Frühling.
ReplyDeleteLG zum Wochenende vom katerchen
So nice to have all these guests at the bird table.
ReplyDeleteThat fox sparrow was the first thing that caught my eye. What a gorgeous bird, especially compared to its much more drab cousins.
ReplyDeleteI've heard and seen our mating cardinals all winter but I haven't gone out with my camera often.
Like your birds, I know winter's never going to end.
I may have mentioned it before but I learn a lot from my visits here. Your photos and identifications are wonderful! Thanks Eileen and have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! You had one blow out week in your yard. I would go bonkers if I EVER saw this many different birds in even a year. Love the post. Your macros are super duper. genie
ReplyDeleteHallo Eileen!!Wonderful photos!Great captures!!As always your yard-birds are so beautiful!!I realy love the cardinal bird!!Hope you have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteDimi..

ReplyDeletewhat lovely photos of a lovely selection of birds
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a fox sparrow before. Gorgeous bird!
ReplyDeleteYour yard birds are gorgeous Eileen!
ReplyDeleteWinter is still trying to hold on here too, it snowed this morning.
It is nice to have some of these winter birds around for awhile longer.
ReplyDeleteI like those Fox Sparrows. I was surprised to hear how lovely their song was.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful....all of them, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed your photos of your yard birds. I guess the sparrows are on to something as Old Man Winter is sticking around down here as well.
ReplyDeleteLove your bird photos. Especially the Cardinals. Wish we had them here! I have two "Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches" in my yard right now. Had never seen one before, so it's a lifer for me.
ReplyDeleteLove the birds. You have quite a variety here!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!!
ReplyDeleteI try to take photos of birds, but I can't..they always fly away!
And the birds are so cute..
I have a special affection for Cardinals and yours are beautiful. Of course all the others are lovely as well. I always enjoy your yard birds Eileen
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice variety of yardbirds. I wish that the starlings would leave our yard!
ReplyDeleteHA HA---Be careful of telling the Pine Siskins to bring their friends... You might get about 200 like I had one year. This year, my biggest group are the Goldfinches --but I have quite a few House Finches too.
ReplyDeleteOur BlueJays aren't here yet.. They usually come in Spring --but since the weather says that it's not spring, they are not here yet.
We don't have any sparrows. Don't know why--but from what I've heard, I'm glad we don't have House Sparrows.
Have a great Sunday --and hope your weather doesn't get too bad.
Hugs,
Betsy
I love all of these. The cardinals are awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous album! These birds have so much personality.
ReplyDeleteWoW, Eileen, you captured your backyard birds beautifully. Great detail in these close ups!!
ReplyDeletePerfect captures, Eileen. Love them all.

I'm with the reds and the blues, Eileen. The white-breasted nuthatch is too darn cute altogether, and there's nothing I like much better than a cheeky Blue Jay.
ReplyDeleteHowever, that male Cardinal looks like a real stand-up guy!
Thanks for sharing your feathered friends.
K
Great pictures / collages :)
ReplyDeleteGreat close-ups of your garden birds Eileen. It sounds like your weather is just like ours - winter refusing to call it a day and no sign of spring. Hope we both have a warm Sunday.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of winter birds and a lot of commenters, haha! Yes they are all beautiful, i wonder where they go when the temperatures rise!
ReplyDeletenice bird shots
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely birds! Too hard to pick one favorite. We are still waiting for the spring and the birds to arrive from the south. But the cold weather are keeping them I guess :)
ReplyDeleteWish you a great Sunday!
Irene
Lot of birds in your garden. Like it that you show them to us. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSo many great shots!!! Love little birds. I find them too fast to photograph.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful birds. Wish some of them would visit me.
ReplyDeleteThe birds are so colourful~ Great shots!
ReplyDeleteYou have quite a large and wonderful assortment of birds visiting. Love love love the fox sparrow. Our American goldfinches are wearing their breeding colors for the first time this last week. All of your bird pics are simply wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a nice selection of birds in your yard ! I see from time to time some sparrows and even a robin, but that's it. And spring seems to be on strike !
ReplyDeleteAnother great series, Eileen. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada
ReplyDeletePine Siskins are everywhere. Yesterday Kathie counted over 50 of them at the feeders. I couldn't believe how many there were. You have very colorful birds on this post.
ReplyDeleteYou have wonderful yardbirds! I really enjoy how you document the seasonal changes in what you see with your pictures along with the explanations. Such a painless and beautiful way to learn!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty yardbirds! I have been seeing so many birds out here lately. I wish I had a long lens so I could capture some of them!
ReplyDeleteNice photos from the birdfeeder!
ReplyDeleteYou do have some pretty yard birds!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteHere too! Lots of cold weather but apparently the birds do not mind as they are in abundance this spring.
ReplyDeleteIt's still winter here too, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteFox sparrows mean either spring or fall here as that's when they pass through my part of Ontario. I haven't seen any yet this year so it CAN'T be spring. :))
Some wonderful shots!!! Love the Cardinals!!!
