Fair Hill Nature Center

I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday .

On Saturday, hubby and I took our walk at a new place (for us) called the Fair Hill Nature Center in Elkton, Md. Fair Hill is 5,656 acre natural resource management area. It is bordered by Pennsylvania to the north and Delaware is less than a mile away. The Farm and land was originally owned by William duPont Jr an equestrian, who enjoyed riding the fields as well as fox chasing. In 1975 the state of Maryland purchased the property from Mr duPont's estate. Fair Hill hosts the annual Cecil County fair, steeplechases, turf course and flat races.

FOXCATCHER FARM COVERED BRIDGE ..constructed in 1860 a Maryland landmark.

BIG ELK CREEK...a popular spot for the anglers. The trails are open to hikers, bikers and equestrians.

Tiger Swallowtail butterflies seen along the trail and Big Elk Creek.

Pond at Fair Hills...lots of white and pink hibiscus and some pretty Cardinal Flowers. I would love to re-visit Fair Hills in the spring to see the Bobolinks, Meadowlarks and Grasshopper Sparrow which are regular breeders seen in the fields.

On the way home from Fair Hill we stopped for another walk at the SUSQUEHANNA RIVER...Bald Eagle..Double-crested Cormorants, Great Blue Heron.

As always, I hope you enjoy my post and thanks for visiting my blog. I always appreciate your comments.

Join in on the fun and for more wonderful photos please visit  Mosaic Monday and more

what a treasure of a spot Eileen!! That bridge reminded me of the movie - of which I can't remember the name though, right now. You will know. Why did they cover them? Very quaint. Was it in part a safety/sides thing perhaps? I would love to walk that walk.

What a fascinating place, Eileen ... and I think those Tiger Swallowtails are amazing! I have been in Philadelphia, picnicked (in January!) on the banks of the River Delaware, but have not had the chance to visit this area.

Beautiful covered bridge! Very nice butterfly shots, too!

A lovely series of captures, Eileen - I especially like the pond with its reflections. Must admit I too wonder why bridges were covered. (Perhaps the movie Carole was thinking of may have been "Bridges of Madison County" ?)
Thanks for stopping by my blog and wishing you a wonderful week.

What a beautiful place, Eileen! I loved seeing the tiger swallowtails all together - unusual to see so many at one spot. They must be getting a drink? The pond photos are lovely as well. You are an excellent photographer!

What an amazing area full of wildlife, so many swallowtails at once is exciting. Can't help but think of Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood every time I see a covered bridge.

Those covered bridges are so iconic. I love them. You know what? I have a file of inspirational photos from the internet and there are dozens of covered bridge images usually in autumn! Must be a favourite image of mine...lol. Actually anything autumn is a favourite image of mine. Do you love autumn too? Your park must be spectacular then. One of these fine years I'm going to rent a cabin somewhere in the Laurentians for September and October and just sit there watching the leaves change. Well, I might bring my camera and paints with me. :) Hope you have a lovely rest of the week Eileen. :)

The butterflies are great - I can see why this place would be popular with fishermen.

Wow, Eileen! WHAT a fantastic day you had! This is such a gorgeous area. I love the red covered bridge. We are supposed to have a few covered bridges left in N.C., but I'm not sure where they're located. Love the flower pics, and as always, you captured some great bird pics. I've never seen a real bald eagle in my life, and I'm amazed at how many bloggers have gotten pictures of them. Maybe one day... :)

Thanks for your visit and have a wonderful week!
