I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes
December 17, 2013
I am not really much a lover of snow or winter.. But, it is Ok if I do not have to go out and drive in it. I deal with crazy drivers on dry roads every day going to work and they scare me.....So, these same crazy drivers on wet, snowy and icy roads are just plain dangerous.
Our last snow was on Saturday, so I enjoyed watching the birds coming and going at my feeders. There seems to be a feeding frenzy when it snows..They do not have to worry, I have stocked up on the sunflower seeds, suet and peanuts. They will not go hungry around my yard..
In the spring, this Cardinal pair will chase off any other Cardinal that shows up in their yard. But, I think they become nicer during a snowstorm and actually become civil and share the seeds and feeders.
My poor female is not looking happy with this cold weather and snow...I think she is ready for spring just like I am..bring it on.
I have been seeing the House Sparrows going inside one of my birdhouses. I think they are huddling in the house to keep warm.. We do have protection for the birds from the weather with all the birdhouses, pine trees, shrubs, the wood pile and bushes..
Thanks for visiting my post and for the nice comments.
I hope you can join in on my MEME called Saturday Critters..early on Saturday Mornings ...join in with the party and post your cute critters.

Eileen,
I don't have Cardinals here and I miss them most around Christmas time so thank you for sharing your images of these wonderful birds!
the cardinals sure brighten up the landscape!
A great post, lovely photos.
A lot of details to study!
Beautiful pictures of the cardinal couple. I think the females are so beautiful with their orange beaks. I do like this time of year but I hear what you're saying about driving in the snow, ice etc.
They are really pretty Eileen!
Eileen, what great shots! I adore cardinals, my favorite wild bird. Don't see too many here anymore. It is a shame. xo
Hello Eileen!!!Wonderful pictures!!!Great photography!!The cardinal bird is so preety!!I really like these birds!!!Thank you for sharing!!!Wish you a lovely week!!Hug!
Dimi..
Just beautiful Eileen!
They are surely beautiful birds to look at.
the cardinals look great in the snow.
I´ll ask the Long Tailed Tits if they want to take a trip over to you. :)
The cardinals look so beautiful dear Eileen . The female cardinal does look like she is ready for spring just as you are :) have a good week and much love your way.
If I had to pick a bird that personified Christmas- it would be the scarlet red cardinal..they are so beautiful and colorful, especially in the snow.
Wonderful shots of the cardinals in the snow. I like snow but I don't like dealing with driving in it, particularly when the roads are icy.
Cardinals and Christmas seem to go hand and hand and then if you add a sprinkle of snow ... well, that is just perfect. I am a lover of the female colors as are other of your followers, but the bold red of that handsome little boy can't be denied. Beautiful pictures, Eileen ...

Nice photos of the cardinals.
They are beautiful to see!
Eileen, I was glad to see your Cardinals...and we, too, have lots of food and protection for them...:)JP
Your Cardinals are beautiful with the backdrop of snow!! We had more than usual this summer and fall, but you must have them all since I haven't seen the around in the last month or so!!
The snow/cold must be difficult on the birds and those bird legs!!
They are such a treat to see in the winter! Lovely captures Eileen!
OMG, Eileen...You all got slammed. I wonder how Chestertown came out. We did not get anywhere near this much of the white stuff. I used to love it because school would be called off and I could stay at home, but now that I am retired and can do without it. The older I get the less I like the extreme cold and the extreme hot. Happy Season. genie
I love your cardinal-in-the-snow photo.
I don't love the crazies, either. Oversized-vehicle people have way too much confidence--and momentum.
gorgeous red. so pretty in the snow. ( :
Such lovely photos! I especially like the one with the cardinal pair in the branches. You are a kind spirit to take care of the birds in the winter. :-)
Cardinals are such striking birds - well, the males are - and seem designed to pose in snow! I hope it's a short winter for your sake, and that the drivers take more care on the roads.
Eileen, such lovely photos, specially the one with snow falling. Birds, like all other animals, know where to come for food in the cold. Super Cardinals. Greetings from Jean
These are gorgeous! The snow is a nice bonus! I'm partial to female Cardinals.
What a lovely photos of the Cardinals in the snow.
Wonderful birds! The male is a handsome devil. Have a great day!
Beautiful photos of some gorgeous cardinals. I love the females with their bright orange lipstick beaks. So very pretty.
And I agree on winter driving. I'm not worried so much about hubby's driving as I am about all the nuts out there that can't seem to slow down.
Have a wonderful day, Eileen.
I always wonder (and worry) about the birds and creatures when it rains so heavily here in Mwadui. But as the rain lets up, we hear the birds chirping again. Resilient to the core. I love the female Cardinal. She is quite striking for a female of the species. I hope you're having a great day. Greetings, Jo
Ho my goodness, these cardinals are soooo gorgeous!
Wish we had them in France!!!
One day I'll have to come and visit you!! LOL! I wish but I am joking... if we manage to sell our property, our footsteps will lead us to Aussie land!
Great post, Eileen!
Cheers, keep well
Beautiful pictures of the cardinals in the snow, Eileen.
They are one of the best species in this world, well photographed.
Marvelous photos of the red bird and the snow. A really good contrast.
Have a nice day, Eileen. Best regards, Synnöve
....they're so special and great for the camera
I wonder how many extra birds make it through the winter because of garden feeder like yours - I suspect its a lot!
Nice pictures.
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
They are all beautiful Eileen,
love this post again.
Greetings, Joop
Love your beautiful cardinals, Eileen. We have at least two cardinals living in our yard. Yesterday a bunny decided to hang out in our backyard, too. Not sure why he is staying with us.
Eileen, I just love your Cardinal photos! DO send some my way would ya?
Your cardinal pictures are wonderful. We had our feeders down for a while, after our last bear intrusion. We put the feeders back up again a couple days ago. The birds haven't found them yet.
they are always beautiful BUT when you add in snow, it just equals gorgeous!! they are wonderful captures eileen, the birds, the falling snow, the pretty tangled tree branches, all so pretty!!
i had a special visitor yesterday, (the flicker) i am saving those pictures for saturday!!
I LOVE the contrast between the red and the snow. It's so lovely isn't it?
The cardinals are so pretty in the snow! They really brighten up a snowy yard.
The poor birds in winter...why don't some of them migrate? We have plenty of room here. These cardinals are in good shape considering the conditions they're in. Nice photos!
Cardinals in the snow simply scream Christmas time is here.
Beautiful shots, Eileen :)
Hi Eileen, So cheery and pretty. Just says Winter charm. The Northern Cardinals are beautiful and especially more so when in snow. Nice pictures and pleasant scenes. By the way, I thought of you when at Paynes Prairie State Park on Monday - saw several Sand Hill Cranes and other birds there. Have a wonderful day today!
AGREED...... Stay in doors and watch the Cardinals.
The cardinals are soooo gorgeous in the snow. Very festive, Eileen!
I'm pretty sure I've told you a million times how much I love cardinals...these pictures remind me of the only way I ever saw them (on Christmas cards) for all the years we lived in the Pacific Northwest.
So pretty! I think Cardinals look beautiful up against the snow. Makes for a picturesque scene!
This is really wonderful Eileen. We have no cardinals and I find them so beautiful to see. Lovely as you have them photographed classification snow. I really enjoyed it :-)
Neat photos of all the birds. They are well taken care of in your garden. It must be paradise for them. Thanks so much for stopping by and wishing us a Happy Anniverary Eileen. All I can say is, time flies :)
Beautiful shots! I love cardinals.
Beautiful bird! I haven't seen any here lately, but I know they are around.
Wonderful pictures in snow.
Your cardinals are gorgeous
Greetings
I could have written this post since I agree with everything you say… I love snow (wish we'd get a little) --but don't like driving in it… I love and feed the birds --and our Cardinals seem to share things with 'other' Cardinals in winter… Love those birds --especially the males --in winter when it snows… Gorgeous!!!!
Merry Christmas.
Hugs,
Betsy
I'm no fan of snow, either, but I did enjoy your photos. The second one is especially good in my opinion.
Eillen!!!.. Very nice pictures and Merry Christmas ..
love love love the cardinals!!!!
They are my favorite bird and love seeing them in the snow.
thanks for sharing
Oh lovely series Eileen... I don't see enough of them here.... Michelle
I guess introducing Cardinals to Australia would be wrong ... but I just LOVE that hit of bright RED!!
The cardinals really show up in the snow. Too bad we don't get them here. The only birds I've been seeing at my feeders are chickadees. Not sure why the redpolls haven't shown up yet.
Our snow is finally melting, but one of the things I enjoyed during its siege was the brilliant hue of the cardinals against the white backdrop!
Hi Wonderful shot of the CardinLs in the snow.
I always enjoy seeing cardinals since I have never seen them in the area where we live now. They are beautiful against the snow.
Oh I love these birds, and their colors! Gorgeous shots!!!
Cardinals are so lovely! I wish we had them here in Aus!!
fantastic captures of the cardinals in the snow!
such lovely scenes.
I am enjoying your MISSUS cardinal and she only comes infrequently here and I can't get a decent picture of her for the life of me
( Yet, at least : )
The red cardnials are a really beautiful bird! The male really stands out in the snow! Great shots!
