Saturday's Critters #78

Saturday's Critters #78

It's Saturday and it's time to share your critters.. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who has linked up in the past and for those who are linking in on this week's critter party. And of course I always appreciate my blogging friends stopping by just for a visit.

I am sharing some more images from our overnight getaway to Chincoteague Island NWR in Virginia.

An American Oystercatcher near the dune nesting site.

This Osprey had it's very own little island for a nest. Beyond the nest you can see a fishing boat that is surrounded by gulls.

One of the Chincoteague wild ponies we came across during our hike.  It looks like it has a big belly. Maybe another little one on the way..any day.

A closeup of one of Chincoteague's wild pones.

We watched this Green Heron stalking a big Black Rat Snake, it was joined by a Snowy Egret and a Tri-colored Heron.

The Tricolored heron standing nearby the Green Heron inching closer.

The Snowy Egret wanted to be closer and also attracted to the big snake.

Not a clear shot but this was the snake that was attracting so much attention. I am assuming it was a Rat Snake.  I believe it got away, it could have been dinner for one of the birds. I hope you enjoyed my post on Chincoteague birds and critters.

Thank you for the visits and for all the nice comments.. As always I appreciate your participating with my critter party..Have a happy weekend!

Thanks to Tex Theresa aka Tex, I was able to add this link up button and thanks to  Jennifer for creating my photo badge.

It would have been interesting to see who came out on top if the birds had managed to get at the snake. I wonder if they would have worked together. Have a great weekend Eileen and thanks for hosting.

Hello Eileen, beautiful pictures again :)
I love the oystercatcher and the pony :))
And I think, the last picture is just
beautiful, there's no need to show a
snake in full detail ;)

Have a happy weekend!

How interesting to see three birds watching the same snake!

Gayle said...

Very observant of you that the three were after the same prey.
Have a fun day!

Phil Slade said...

That snake looks huge and perhaps none of the birds could handle it?
The Ospreys have certainly chosen the best nesting site there Eileen. An island all of their own to raise a family.

Thanks for the Internet party today and enjoy your weekend.

Eileen, wonderful photos of the Chincoteague Island inhabitants, but too close to the snake for me. Thanks for sharing.

Morning Eileen! What great photographs, think your shots are always just awesome. I'm always fascinated by egrets and herons and of course I love horses! I hate snakes! I'm so happy to join in on my first party of yours, so exciting! Little critters is awesome and every now and then I get a shot of one! I am clueless to what my little friend is that I shared today. Maybe you or someone will enlighten me!
Thanks for hosting.
Have wonderful day~

Love the water scenes . . .
I probably wouldn't be as brave seeing a big Rat Snake . . .
Just the thought of the R word gives me the "willies!"

So the snake was safe from the birds :)
Enjoying your bird shots, Eileen. The pony is very lovely one.
Happy weekend.

What a lovely post, Eileen. So many critters. Your Oystercatcher seems to have an extraordinarily long bill. And the pony is cute. I like the large Rat Snake; I hope it "got away" Have a great day. Jo

I look at all of your wonderful pictures and I start to feel reclusive ... with everything that is going on around here, I just don't get out to find the great shots. I am also trying to master my SX60 ... Taking pictures from a distance using the screen is hard for me. I have a hard time finding the subject then I have a hard time keeping the camera still enough to get a good shot. This is going to take practice, I know, but I am open to any suggestions you have. I love your tricolor heron ... I don't believe I have ever seen one around here. Great post as always. Eileen ...

Of course sweet horsey wins for pretty photos, your water (with boat) is stunning, as is your last photo, not a snake fan, I respect them highly, but the scene and it's presence is a great capture! Egrets and Blue Herons are my faves too! Nice critters! Enjoy your weekend too.

Happy Weekend, Eileen. What a great variety of photos. Those ponies are gorgeous. I hope to join in again soon with cat photos. We are still grieving over Ditto. I'm thankful for the 9 years we did have with him.

Have a lovely afternoon.

What a wonderful variety of birds and critters, Eileen! We have the Black Oystercatchers here, but I only manage to see them once or twice a year. We looked for them a couple of days ago, but no luck. Green Herons don't frequent the areas where we can ride our bikes either. It's a big deal when we see one. Love the wild pony. Wouldn't it be neat to see the foal? (I have lots of critter photos that haven't been shared yet and hope to get organized to post them later) Have a wonderful weekend! Many thanks for hosting!

Eileen, I spent five days in Chincoteague two summers ago photographing the Egrets, Herons, Ponies and salt marshes. So I immediately knew without even reading your words just where you were. Brought back great memories. Thank you so much for that and for these wonderful photos. Carol
