Saturday's Critters #78
It's Saturday and it's time to share your critters.. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who has linked up in the past and for those who are linking in on this week's critter party. And of course I always appreciate my blogging friends stopping by just for a visit.
I am sharing some more images from our overnight getaway to Chincoteague Island NWR in Virginia.
An American Oystercatcher near the dune nesting site.
This Osprey had it's very own little island for a nest. Beyond the nest you can see a fishing boat that is surrounded by gulls.
One of the Chincoteague wild ponies we came across during our hike. It looks like it has a big belly. Maybe another little one on the way..any day.
A closeup of one of Chincoteague's wild pones.
We watched this Green Heron stalking a big Black Rat Snake, it was joined by a Snowy Egret and a Tri-colored Heron.
The Tricolored heron standing nearby the Green Heron inching closer.
The Snowy Egret wanted to be closer and also attracted to the big snake.
Not a clear shot but this was the snake that was attracting so much attention. I am assuming it was a Rat Snake. I believe it got away, it could have been dinner for one of the birds. I hope you enjoyed my post on Chincoteague birds and critters.
Thank you for the visits and for all the nice comments.. As always I appreciate your participating with my critter party..Have a happy weekend!

It would have been interesting to see who came out on top if the birds had managed to get at the snake. I wonder if they would have worked together. Have a great weekend Eileen and thanks for hosting.
Hello Eileen, beautiful pictures again :)
I love the oystercatcher and the pony :))
And I think, the last picture is just
beautiful, there's no need to show a
snake in full detail ;)
Have a happy weekend!

I love the pony and all the birds. Have a great weekend, Eileen, and thank you for hosting!
The oystercatcher is a cool one and the green heron is so pretty. It would be so fun to see a foal at the refuge. Thank you for hosting this week!
Hi! Nice captures. Various kind of heron photos are very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
The water scenes look so idyllic for a relaxing time away from the city. Love that bill on the oystercatcher. Have a wonderful weekend Eileen!
Everything but the snake!! I hate snakes. LOL
Love the wild pony!!!!!!!
Hi Eileen,
fabulous photos of the horse and the different birds. Amazing !
Best regards, Synnöve

There are a couple of herons locally who just refuse to pose for me.... so I'll make do gazing at yours!!! YAM xx
Hello Eileen,
Beautiful pictures, I love the horse.
I wish you a very nice weekend.
Best regards, Irma
Que lindos ,Eillen! Sempre assim! um beijo e ótimo fim de semana! Aqui temos frio!!! chica
How interesting to see three birds watching the same snake!
Very observant of you that the three were after the same prey.
Have a fun day!
That snake looks huge and perhaps none of the birds could handle it?
The Ospreys have certainly chosen the best nesting site there Eileen. An island all of their own to raise a family.
Thanks for the Internet party today and enjoy your weekend.
Eileen, wonderful photos of the Chincoteague Island inhabitants, but too close to the snake for me. Thanks for sharing.
Morning Eileen! What great photographs, think your shots are always just awesome. I'm always fascinated by egrets and herons and of course I love horses! I hate snakes! I'm so happy to join in on my first party of yours, so exciting! Little critters is awesome and every now and then I get a shot of one! I am clueless to what my little friend is that I shared today. Maybe you or someone will enlighten me!
Thanks for hosting.
Have wonderful day~

Love the water scenes . . .
I probably wouldn't be as brave seeing a big Rat Snake . . .
Just the thought of the R word gives me the "willies!"
So the snake was safe from the birds :)
Enjoying your bird shots, Eileen. The pony is very lovely one.
Happy weekend.
love the bird shots and that is really a cool island for them to sit on and fish.. ugh on the snake, looks like a big one, he might have been hunting his dinner..
Hi Eileen, and thanks for hosting. Really nice selection of critters you posted. I'm always intrigued by those Oyster Catchers!
love the soon-to-be-mama pony! and, again, so envious of the tri-color. :) thanks, eileen! (i'll see if i can i.d. at nancy's).
How fun to see wild ponies. What a great place.
Hi Eileen,
The ponies and the birds are very pretty. That's a big snake and I am glad there is biodiversity.
Thanks for hosting.
Have a Wonderful Weekend!
Peace :)
Thanks for the tour of Chincoteague. I read all the Marguerite Henry books when I was a kid.

this looks like such an awesome place to view a great variety of critters. i always favor those big guys, the egret and the heron...but that big carrot nose was an eye catcher also!!!!!
Lovely bird pics and exciting action! I'm kind of glad the snake got away. Go catch some fish, birdies!
~
I always enjoy all your photos. What a long, bright beak the American Oystercatcher has!!
Love all your critter photos (even the snake!)
It would be fabulous to see the wild ponies! Enjoy your weekend my friend and thanks for the party! Hugs, Diane
What a lovely post, Eileen. So many critters. Your Oystercatcher seems to have an extraordinarily long bill. And the pony is cute. I like the large Rat Snake; I hope it "got away" Have a great day. Jo
I look at all of your wonderful pictures and I start to feel reclusive ... with everything that is going on around here, I just don't get out to find the great shots. I am also trying to master my SX60 ... Taking pictures from a distance using the screen is hard for me. I have a hard time finding the subject then I have a hard time keeping the camera still enough to get a good shot. This is going to take practice, I know, but I am open to any suggestions you have. I love your tricolor heron ... I don't believe I have ever seen one around here. Great post as always. Eileen ...

I love the ponies!
Blessings....
great shots.
thanks for sharing.
Hi - my first visit to your blog. I've seen you at Gail's and Tex's one so thought I'd hop over.
Great pictures, I especially like the pony ones.
Have a good weekend
All the best Jan
Of course sweet horsey wins for pretty photos, your water (with boat) is stunning, as is your last photo, not a snake fan, I respect them highly, but the scene and it's presence is a great capture! Egrets and Blue Herons are my faves too! Nice critters! Enjoy your weekend too.
Oh, my! That would have been something to see, Eileen! Those three birds attacking that snake! Great captures, looks like you had a fun weekend. Have a great week ahead!
Love all the herons and the egret - and the oyster catcher - but my favorite was the pony - I have always wanted to see the wild ponies. Lovely post.
Fascinating photos, as always!
Happy Sunday!
That Oystercatcher is so colorful. And the snake had better hide!
We lived Chincoteague, one of the best places we ever visited in our travels. Thanks as always for your wonderful photos of this magical place. And also as always for hosting.
Love seeing the Chincoteague ponies. Looks like the Osprey has a great nest location. Thanks for hosting, Eileen.
Happy Weekend, Eileen. What a great variety of photos. Those ponies are gorgeous. I hope to join in again soon with cat photos. We are still grieving over Ditto. I'm thankful for the 9 years we did have with him.
Have a lovely afternoon.
Hi Eileen, Nice pictures of the herons and egret. Glad the snake make its get-away. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks for the party. I linked. Of course I loved the horse! I'll be back to visit the others. Have a great weekend.
What a wonderful variety of birds and critters, Eileen! We have the Black Oystercatchers here, but I only manage to see them once or twice a year. We looked for them a couple of days ago, but no luck. Green Herons don't frequent the areas where we can ride our bikes either. It's a big deal when we see one. Love the wild pony. Wouldn't it be neat to see the foal? (I have lots of critter photos that haven't been shared yet and hope to get organized to post them later) Have a wonderful weekend! Many thanks for hosting!
Eileen, I spent five days in Chincoteague two summers ago photographing the Egrets, Herons, Ponies and salt marshes. So I immediately knew without even reading your words just where you were. Brought back great memories. Thank you so much for that and for these wonderful photos. Carol
A wonderful wildlife refuge and beautiful photos. I liked that pony!
A lovely looking Oustercatcher Eileen. Have a great weekend. :-)
A place I've always wanted to go to and you got all the great critters, Eileen!...:)JP
How nice to see these beautiful critters !!
Fanastic shots, Eileen !!
Have a nice weekend !
Beautiful critters images, especially the Oyster Catcher and the horse.
Eileen, great photos of those wonderful shore birds, but you could have left off the snake.
I love the beautiful wild horses and shore birds in that area, Eileen. It's a wonderful place to visit! Have a good weekend!
Very nice series ! Love the Osprey's nest !
Magnificent nature shots ~ favorite is the horse but all are sensational!
Happy Weekend to you,
artmusedog and carol
Thanks so much Eileen, for sharing your link at I'd Rather B Birdin' this weekend.
Have a terrific week ahead.
I love those wild ponies at Chincoteague, although perhaps that goes back to one of my favorite books as a child.
Happy Saturday Eileen. Interesting birds, wild horses and an osprey with the nicest nesting area I've seen. Yikes, another snake, I've just come form Mona's snake post and I don't care for these slithering critters.
Beautiful photos! I especially like the Tri-colored!
Great pictures, Eileen!
So beautiful the Tri-colored Heron and the Snowy Egret!
I love Chincoteague! And that app is really cool!
The US has wild horses too? We have a lot in Australia.
Great post as usual. Love all the birds and the ponies the best. Happy day!
Hi Eileen, I love nature and your fabulous photos are good proof of how the world is full of divine creatures. I love them all, but the horse is my favorite animal, and the photos are magnificent! Thank you! Hugs and good Sunday and week.

Wow, that American Oystercatcher sure stands out with that orange bill. Tom The Backroads Traveller
First time linking up! I see also that Sunday's photos from you are also from Homosassa Springs and are beautifully photographed! I really enjoyed them!
A wonderful selection of shots, Eileen. Those ponies are so adorable and the bird shots lovely. As far as the snake goes, if not dinner today, maybe it will be tomorrow!
Thanks for hosting.
Wonderful Chincoteague pictures, Eileen! Awesome island nest for that osprey, and fun shots of the birds after that snake. I also loved the pregnant pony. Sorry I didn't have anything this weekend. Should be joining in again soon. Have a great week!
thanks for sharing the Oystercatcher, It is one of my favorites :)
I think they would have choked on that snake..The pony sure looks pregnant..Love the oyster catcher..they're probably not too hard to catch :)
Oh, such a nice collection of long legged birds! LOL Just had to call them that...they are all so beautiful.
I always enjoy seeing the comical Oystercatchers with their long orange bills, The horse is adorable, and the herons are fun, all wanting to eat the snake.
Here's a butterfly!
I just love all the photos you've been sharing from Chincoteague Island. I was lucky enough to visit there once many years ago, and I'd love to go back.
Such a stylish beak.
I remember well seeing these wild ponies, although I am not so sure that with the intensive way the herd is managed they can really be considered wild any more.
