Happy Thankful Thursday!
I am sharing photos from the 2nd day of our overnight visit to Shenandoah Nat'l Park. We started off early morning on a hard strenuous hike to the Hawksbill Summit. This trail is .8 miles all up hill. Round trip 1.6 miles on the Hawksbill trail, on this day we hiked a total of 4.5 miles.
I have tried hiking this trail before and had to turn back due to a bad case of Vertigo. I was determined to complete this hike on this visit.
A view of the Hawksbill Summit.
We saw a few Dark-eyed Juncos at the summit.
Hiking up the trail we noticed various warblers on the ground. We saw a few Black and White Warblers and a female American Redstart.
Another Black and White Warbler. We were happy to be one of the first hikers on the trail that morning, the birds were all over the place.
Below is a Black and White Warbler and possibly a Worm-eating Warbler?
Lots of pretty wildflowers near the Hawksbill summit.
I am guessing this is bee balm?
Another view from the Hawksbill Summit.
I am thankful to complete a hike, especially a strenuous hike. I am thankful for all your visits and comments.
Thank you Michelle for hosting Thankful Thursday.

ReplyDeleteI am thankful to have you to do that hike on our behalf! I too get vertigo and would have to stand well back - but I do appreciate the view! YAM xx
I wonder who made the stone look-out area? They are cemented together. It could be a hundred years old or...like ten.
ReplyDeleteMost work on the nationals parks were done by the CCC, thanks to President Roosevelt.
DeleteYour photos are always stunning!☺
ReplyDeleteNice overlook
ReplyDeleteWild flowers and charming birds- a fabulous combination to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThese are great...so glad you puffed and huffed your way to the top to share with us! Such sweet little birds along the way too! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe landscape well deserved the long hiking!
ReplyDeleteLovely birds!
Shenandoah is so lovely! I've been once and would love to return. Makes me think of the song, Oh Shenandoah :)
ReplyDeleteI would give that top part a miss, as I am no good with heights,But lovely walking track and always, beautiful feathered friends.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous views. I need to convince my husband to go there (in the Fall, when it's not so hot). I had never seen a black & white warbler - very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love those warblers that you saw Eileen! The vertigo didn't defeat you this time!
ReplyDeleteNice job with the hike! Looks like the views were worth it.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a hard hike for a lot of reasons! I am thankful all the time that the trails here are flat! It would be a challenge to hike those steep trails now! Love seeing the pretty little birds and wildflowers you saw. The view is spectacular....and the two of you have fun!
ReplyDeleteHello,

ReplyDeleteI love this area Im dying to go back when things smooth out here enough for a trip. The birds are great and the wildflowers are amazing! Glad you got your hike in this time. Vertigo has stopped me a time or two also.
ReplyDeleteso the early bird gets the worm. I find it's always going to be better if you can get an early start before crowds show up.
ReplyDeleteI’be never seen that warbler before.
ReplyDeleteGreat view from that viewpoint...and lovely critters!
ReplyDeleteSo relaxing after a long climbing.
Have a nice day!

I've never been to this park so I really loved seeing your photos. The short, though steep hike is just the kind we enjoy, and I always look forward to the descent. LOL

Well done for going back and beating the vertigo - the trip looks well worth it, what a lot of lovely birds you saw.
ReplyDeleteI love the selfie shadowy photo. I hate vertigo, I suffer from it too. After a long absence, my vertigo returned while visiting Bryce Canyon. Must be the heights too.
