Nice shots. I like the Buffleheads. they sometimes stop for a day or two at our pond. I call our pond Duck Motel becuse nobody stays very long. Love the Island horses and you bet as a kid I read every Margarette Henry book.

You obviously enjoyed a few days away with great results. Is anything quite as enchanting as a Long-tailed Duck, and if a little group of them are chattering together it is magical.

ReplyDeleteYou have some cracker shots here, Eileen... I was particularly interested in the Brant Geese - not something I am every likely to see myself. Are seals a regular feature in the river, or was the poor thing way off course? YAM xx
Thank you Yam!
DeleteThe seal was seen where the river enters the Atlantic Ocean, the seals are a common sight along this coast.
Have a happy weekend!
Great photos Eileen. I love all the sweet critters. Have a fantastic weekend and thanks for hosting!

Hello Eileen,:=) It is lovely to see such a great variety of sea birds, which seem to enjoy each others company. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Long tailed Duck, what a little beauty. The huge rocks on the coast line are awesome too. I also enjoyed seeing the brown and white ponies,...seems strange seeing them on a road. Have a nice weekend, and thank you for hosting.

Lovely capture on the sea birds! The long-tailed and bufflehead ducks look cuter, and the ponies' fur seems to be softer for caress. Hope you have a nice weekend
ReplyDeleteTake care
Thank you Jeevan!

I love the wild horses! That is just amazing to know we still have some in our country! The long tailed ducks are very neat and I guess you get a good clue as to what they are when you see that tail sticking up! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane!

You always have great selection of species to share Eileen. A number of those we share - e.g Purple Sandpiper, Turnstone and Sanderlings, not forgetting the merganser and Eider. It's good that I can see them here in Maryland, but i wish I could see those Buffleheads - what a lovely duck it is at this time of year. Have a lovely weekend and thansk for the chance to join in today.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil! The Bufflehead duck is a beauty! Especially when the light shines just right on the male's head.
DeleteHave a happy weekend!

Quite a nice assortment of shore and water-birds. When I was a kid in New Jersey there were no records of eiders south of Montauk Point on Long Island, New York, but they since have expanded their range remarkably.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken!
DeleteWe have been enjoying winter getaways to see the Eiders and winter ducks for years now.
Have a happy weekend!
My favorite today is the longtail duck, bottom right side of 1st collage. I may have seen one of these flying over the house yesterday, when they fly do they have long split tails? that is what i saw yesterday. you already know I love those horses.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra!
DeleteI am not sure if you could have seen the long-tailed ducks in your area. They are here in the winter months, not that far south. Maybe your Long-tailed bird was a parakeet or Swallow-tailed Kite? I am just guessing.
Have a happy weekend!
Such great photos of birds and horses today...you've outdone yourself! Thanks so much for sharing here, and visiting my blog and commenting. It's great to have these little conversations of approval. Hope your weekend is just fine!

Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing this beautiful series of critters. My fav this time is the Long-tailed duck, as it is a very rare sight here in south Finland. It usually overflies us on its way to Lapland.
Wishing you a great weekend and many captures! Stay well!
Thank you Luisella!
DeleteThe Long-tailed Duck is one of our winter visitors, they are pretty.
Have a happy weekend!
You have a good eye for the photos and finding the birds in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThank you Red!

Hi Eileen, Thanks for taking us along to Ocean City, Assateague and Indian River Delaware. Enjoyed all your photos. Wow, the rocks at Ocean City Inlet are huge! I wonder if that is common along the East Coast? Interesting shots of the Assateague ponies too. I had to Google them and interesting to see that in 2020 there were 73 horses in the Maryland herd. Pretty cool! Thanks, as always, for sharing. Have a great weekend and best regards from Seattle. John
ReplyDeleteThank you John! I always appreciate your visits and comments on my post. The rock jetties were formed to protect the inlet, for the fishing boats to go back and forth from the bay to the ocean. The rock jetties were completed in 1935.
DeleteI am happy to see the Maryland herd of ponies is doing well. Have a happy weekend!
