Saturday's Critters # 385

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!  😊

Happy May, wishing everyone a happy new month.

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

I am sharing some of my back yard birds and critters. A mish-mash of birds from our local fire road walks to the lake. On May 4th we will celebrate our 31st Anniversary!

1.  A cute back yard bunny, I hope it is not eating our plants.  I've been seeing two bunnies in the yard, maybe a couple that will have babies soon.

2.
Seen on 4-14-21 are various back yard birds,  I watch these birds from our window, they were on our deck and at the feeders. I am still seeing a mix of winter birds along with the new arrivals of spring and summer birds.

Top row: Dark-eyed Junco, American Goldfinch and a Chipping Sparrow

Middle row: Ruby-throated Hummingbird and the female Purple Finches.

Bottom Row: Red-breasted Nuthatch, Red-bellied Woodpecker and a White-throated Sparrow.

3.  On 4-14-21   I am not sure if this is any early date for the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. It seems early to me.  Either way I am happy to see them again in my yard and I had the feeder ready for them.

4.   On 4-14-21 the male American Goldfinch is showing off his pretty summer colors.

5. On 4-15-21 I was surprised to see so many Double-crested Cormorants at our local lake. A group of Cormorants can be called a "flight" or "swim" or a "gulp". On the far top right photo you can see their double crest showing. You can often see the Cormorants with their wings spread open sunning themselves. Hubby and I saw groups of them in the lake and perched in trees along the lake shore.

6. 4-15-21, I found a few small birds moving around in the bushes along the shore. This Palm Warbler came out in the open for a few photos.

7. This Palm Warbler has a tick under it's eye.

8. On 4-17-21 are more of my yard birds at the feeders and deck.

Top row : male Pine Warbler

Middle Row: Red-bellied Woodpecker, Mourning Dove and a Tufted Titmouse

Bottom row: male Downy Woodpecker.

9. I found this cute solar chime decoration for our deck, the hummingbirds light up and change colors. It looks really pretty at night.

I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding   Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!

I can see the cute bunny with some grass in its mouth. Your yard is a wonderful haven for the birds, a place where there is plenty of food and a safe retreat for them. I like the cute solar chime decoration. The lighted up hummingbirds look beautiful in the dark. I would love to have one in my porch area.

Hello Eileen,
Beautiful photos as always! The hummingbirds are so cute. I'm so happy that I don't have bunnies here even they are very pretty. I guess they had eaten my hole garden.
Happy weekend!

Hi Eileen,
These are beautiful photos and collages.
So sad of the palm warbler who has a tick near his eye.
Would you like to post my link, I can't do it myself.
I wish you a very nice weekend.

Unfortunately our bunnies are eating our tender young plants, so we don't find them very cute! I hope you enjoy the coming month of migration of so many birds through your area.

So many beautiful birds and the bunny is cute. Woudl be nice with little ones. :) Spo bad for the Palm Warbler to have a tick under it's eye, can´t be fun.
You write that the cormorant are "sunning" the wings. I am unsure if you know the reason? Anyway, their pluamge is not waterproof and are getting wet when diving. They need to dry their wings. As they dive quite deep sometimes it would be hard for them with "waterproof" plumage.
The footprints you asked abot is hores and then tractors wheels.
Take care!

...bunnies are only cute in someone else's yard! I look forward to to seeing hummingbirds, Happy May Day. Thanks Eileen for hosting.

Rostrose said...

Oh how cute, dearest Eileen, the bunny in your garden! I also hope that he doesn't eat your plants ... In my current blog post there is a brown hare to be seen, but unfortunately not nearly as close ... I only got closer to the bees, butterflies and ladybugs ... The multitude of birds in your yard inspires me again and again. When it came to the Palm Warbler, I wondered what it got on the eyes - I didn't know the word "tick" in this context - now I've learned something new again ... (Our red male cat Maxwell often has ticks - I think he "tastes" better than our black cat Nina ...)
And you even have hummingbirds! I think these are my favorite birds - in any case, they have made me feel very happy twice on vacation: once in Palm Springs / Palm Canyon https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2013/02/usa-14-tag-palm- springs-palm-canyon.html and once in Jamaica https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2011/08/madagaskar-kuba-bali-malediven.html - I really LOVE them!
Have a nice weekend and a good start into May!

I love the rabbit. I would imagine they are as bad as our deer for gobbling things up! Thanks for hosting. Happy birding, I love seeing our summer friends.

eileeninmd said...

Thank you Traude! I will go and check out your post on the hummingbirds in Palm Springs and Jamaica.
The ticks can be awful for pets and humans. Take care, enjoy your weekend!

David M. Gascoigne, said...

The rabbits are wonderful additions to our lives but they can drive my wife to distraction as they mow down every green shoot that dares to poke above the ground in her garden. I suspect the tick will soon become sated and fall off the Palm Warbler. In the meantime it does look gruesome.

eileeninmd said...

Thank you Linda!
It is cool to watch the chimes change colors at night.
Have a great weekend!

eileeninmd said...

Thank you Jenn!
So far, I have only seen the bunny eating weeds and grass.
Have a great weekend!

eileeninmd said...

Thank you David!
I hope the tick has fallen off now, it did look bad.

I am amazed at the variety of birds who visit your feeder. We get the same two or three species here.

I photograph cormorants all the time and have only ever taken one photo of the double crests. Capturing the crests makes a great photo! Well done.

Hate ticks- have picked one off myself already this season. Just back in the house and took photos of a deer and rabbit myself. Brisk here this morning tho sunny.

Cute bunny!!! Ya, hope they're not damaging your plants. Love seeing the warbler portrait!! And I mark my calendar for the first sighting of a bummer in our yard...either last week in March up to the first 10 days in April. That'll be about 2 weeks to get up north?!?!!

have a wonderful weekend eileen, i think it is going to be great. many thanks for hosting us crazy critter lovers!!

I don't wish to worry you Eileen but bunnies do eat plants, the fresher and juicier the better. LOL. But I really know that you don't mind too much when you have enough to go around.

I do love the variety of your birds at this time of year that make for such rewarding birding. My favourites today are the set of Pine Warbler, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Mourning Dove and a Tufted Titmouse. Great shots.

Have a lovely weekend and thanks for the link up today.

Hi Eileen! As always, I love your photos! I've not seen a hummingbird yet, but I really should get my feeder back up, just in case! I did however, see my first "summer" Goldfinch. You really can't miss them, can you?

And it just occurred to me in looking at your photos that I'll bet that Cormorants are what I always see sitting on the Potomac when I cross over from VA to MD.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Hi Eileen, Happy Saturday to you. I sure enjoyed Saturday’s Critters today. Especially love to see the hummingbirds are back in your location! And that hummingbird solar decoration … so cool! I’ve got to see if I can find one of those. Will start with a look on Amazon. They seem to have everything. I always enjoy your photos of the birds and I appreciate the IDs. The variety of birds in your location is great … it makes me wonder if there are more varieties of birds in the eastern part of the continent than out here in the west. Thanks for another fine post. Happy weekend and week ahead to you and yours. John

Hi Eileen I really like your chime very cute...my hummers arrived Apr 1st...but the females don't arrive with the males, they normally come a little later here at my place. The siskins have gone for the season and most of my summer visitors are here now. I had some baby bunnies in the yard but a feral cat got them! Annie did her best to keep it away I was not aware of what was happening till it was too late. Hope your week is a good one.
