Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
So far May has started off with wonderful bird sightings right outside my windows. I am a little behind sharing, these images are from the first week of May and they were all taken from my windows.
For the first time in the 30+ years living here I saw the Red-headed Woodpecker in my yard. It was only for part of a day but I was able to snap away some photos. The Red-headed Woodpecker is a beauty. I believe now I have seen all of the Eastern North America Woodpeckers right in my back yard.
I do not have photos but I have heard many birds that have moved back into our local forest. Just from my yard, I hear the Ovenbirds, the Wood Thrush, American Redstart and the Scarlet Tanagers. Outside my front window ( the view from my exercise bike) I saw a few Magnolia Warblers, the male was a beauty.
I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!
Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.
Here is my linky:

Your back yard is a haven for all the beautiful birds. You are blessed with the Red Headed Woodpecker's visit to your garden. I am sure it will return again for more visits. I like the cute pose of the Eastern Bluebird as if it is listening to something. Looks like the bird houses are fully occupied with feathered lodgers. Thank you for hosting. Have a great weekend.

Congratulation, Eileen, on having Red-headed Woodpecker visit your yard. It is a spectacular bird and you must be happy to have completed the sweep of the woodpeckers of your area. Red-headed Woodpecker is rare where I live. There are a few here, but the chance to have one in my yard is pretty slim; not impossible, however. Two of our friends have had isolated visits. Of course, who knows what might have put in an appearance when we weren't looking?
ReplyDeleteThank you David!
DeleteThe Red-headed woodpecker was a great yard bird for me. It seems like they were making an appearance in some different areas here at the same time I saw my new yard bird. Have a great day and a happy weekend!
That Red-headed Woodpecker is a beauty. I don’t believe we have them here. It must be a thrill to see a species you’ve never seen before. I saw a Yellow Warbler yesterday but couldn’t get a photo of it. It was a thrill to see it though.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie!
DeleteThe Red-headed Woodpecker is not usually seen in my area, until this day.
Have a great day and a happy weekend!

What beautiful birds outside your windows! I like the red headed woodpecker particularly. He's gorgeous. I woke up with birds about two hours ago (at first blush of light in the sky - sometimes before 6 am) and am glad I opened my window a bit to hear them. It's a wonderful time of year!

Dearest Eileen,

This time I only have very small critters (namely two beetles) for you, because the hoped-for ground squirrels did not show up - but after all, beetles are also God's creatures - and besides, I have a lot of very special nature to offer :-)
All the best from Austria

DeleteEileen - you are truly blessed with such a variety of birds. Congrats on adding the red-headed woodpecker to your lifetime list, and in your own backyard! I loved the picture of the bluebird with its head cocked to the side! I am so glad you included the photo of the female grosbeak - it made me realize a mystery bird that has been visiting my feeders is probably a female black-headed grosbeak! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie! The red-headed woodie was a yard lifer, I have seen it in other areas.
