Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I have some more birds that I saw during our outing to the Susquehanna River SP and Conowingo Dam. We saw lots of Great Blue Herons. There were too many Double-crested Cormorants to count. We saw a few Tree Swallows, an Osprey in a tree eating a fish and I already posted on the Bald Eagles.
Click on photos for larger viewing.
1. Besides numerous Bald Eagles, there were hundreds or maybe thousands of Double-crested Cormorants. The were everywhere we looked.
2. Some of the wildflowers see along the Susquehanna River trail.
Dutchman Breeches, Trillium, unknown white flowers, Eastern Bluebells and a Redbud tree.
3. A fisherman and a view of the Susquehanna River, you can see the I-95 highway bridge in the distance.
4. Osprey has a nice sized fish, breakfast is served.
5. Double-crested Cormorants were perched on just about every rock sticking out of the river.
6. There is a Great Blue Heron rookery on the island in the middle of the river, just below the dam.
7. I counted at least 7 Great Blue Herons on their nest in the photo below.
8. Besides seeing the Great Blue Herons on the nest, they were standing out on the river and rocks.
9. Below are some Bald Eagles and more Double-crested Cormorants perched on the rocks on the river's edge.
10. Right below the dam, the Great Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, Double-crested Cormorants and a Black Vulture are hanging out together.
I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!

Hi Eileen and all the other Saturday Critters Bloggers! I’m on a birding tour of Arizona, so every post this week is critters, but I linked just one. Have a great week everyone. I may not visit any blogs until I get back to my much less birding-friendly home.

Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful series of photos and collages you show.
Great to see so many white-tailed eagles together, only a few pairs breed in the Netherlands, you have to drive hundreds of kilometers for them and then wait and see if you can spot them.
I have enjoyed your blog again.
Would you mind adding my link, I can't.
I wish you a very nice weekend.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma!
DeleteI linked up your post, I loved the horses.

Dearest Eileen,
ReplyDeleteyou are showing so much wonderful and amazing nature again today. A real bird paradise! Unfortunately I don't have any critters for you today ... (Okay, on one of the collages you see two donkeys very small - but that's just a preview. Soon you will get to see more of the donkeys - and some other animals. .. :-))
Happy weekend,
Traude

Hi Eileen, normally I am no fan of dams but this dam seem to make the widllife strive. Every time you share images from it there are lots of eagles and other waterbirds. And, this time, I also see a lot of beautiful structures. Your images has become art! So beautiful! Love it! Nature art, birdart. :)
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Thank you Monica!

ReplyDeleteThank you Tom. We passed other fishermen. They all have their favorite spots.
DeleteHave a great weekend.
I have not seen that many herons or cormorants in one place except here on your blog. most of the best fishing places in Florida there is a view of a bridge and and interstate
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra! It seems like the fishing is best right below the dam.
DeleteHave a happy day!
wow... a lot of Double-crested Cormorants.... I never seen great number of birds in nature...
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos.
Have a wonderful weekend
Thank you Tanza! Nature is amazing.
DeleteHave a great weekend!
I suspect that a Bald Eagle would be happy to turn an injured cormorant into lunch. They had better beware!
ReplyDeleteThank you David!
DeleteIt does not seem like any of the birds at the river go hungry.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks for sharing these beautiful critters and flowers, some are new to my part of the world. Love the Osprey, which I have not been able to photograph yet.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a delightful weekend!
Thank you Luisella! I was happy to see the Osprey!
DeleteHave a happy weekend!
You do live in a very picturesque part of the world Eileen. Plenty of birds for birders too. As for those cormorants, herons, and eagles, I can only think that your waterways are teeming with fish of the right size. No wonder the guy is fishing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely weekend.
Thank you Phil!
DeleteI think the river must have enough for the birds and the fishermen.
Have a great weekend!
There is a large number of cormorants, and the water in the river seems to flow fully! Beautiful images on nested trees with herons and wild blossoms. Have a great weekend

Great photos and good for you to get out and find all these birds.
ReplyDeleteThank you Red!
DeleteI try to find time to get out to see the birds.
Take care, have a happy weekend!
I must have missed some great rivers in my life because I've never seen bird gatherings like these. So many different species of birds hanging out together. Ravens rule where I live and they are very territorial, When a hawk happens to fly by, they gather the troops and chase it away immediately.
ReplyDeleteThank you Inger!
DeleteI have seen the Crows and Blue Jays chasing away the hawks.
Take care, have a happy weekend!
Wonderful to see all the different birds hanging out together. Too often nature photos show the competitive side of life but we all do coexist peacefully at times. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link and comment.
DeleteTake care, have a happy weekend!
Beautiful Eileen, so many commorants and egrets. The eagle is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline!
DeleteIt is a great spot for seeing the eagles.
Have a great weekend!
Hi Eileen, Thanks for sharing more of your photos from your outing to the Susquehanna River State Park and Conowingo Dam. I enjoyed all the photos and have special comments on two: the collage of wildflowers is just wonderful. Very cool! And, the next photo, of the fisherman at Susquehanna River is framed up perfectly ... with the bridge in the distance ... great shot! Thanks for sharing and hosting another fine Saturday's Critters. Hope you and your family have a happy Memorial Day weekend! John

Hi Eileen, love seeing this amazing place and all the different birds hanging out together! The fishing must be pretty good! Love that last shot where they are all waiting together, including the vulture. The view of the fisherman looking upstream is gorgeous. Looks a little cold that day with choppy waters - the best time to fish! Hope you have a nice holiday weekend! x Karen
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! So nice to see your post!
DeleteIt was a windy day, which makes the water choppy. The fish must be plentiful for the birds and fishermen.
Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great new week!
Thanks for sharing your Susquehanna pictures. My favorite is the herons on the rocks. Have a nice Memorial Day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda!

Hi Eileen...I somehow missed this post yesterday...and now there are too many comments for me to read through...though I am sure you have. Those birds on the river must be getting some great fish, as well as the fisherman! Have a great what's left of the weekend!

Photos you shared are wonderful Dear friend! Different type of birds and flowers at the River look great.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the comment and visit.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day!
Lovely photos and a great selection of birds! it's particularly interesting for me to see the great blue herons fishing so close together. In Scotland, our grey herons nest close together but are otherwise quite solitary birds.
ReplyDeleteThank you Juliet!
DeleteIt is great to see the herons on their nest at this rookery.
Take care, have a great day!
Hello Eileen ... and thank you for your kind comment on my #30DaysWild placemat! A wonderful shot of the Osprey, a bird I have only seen in Scotland. And those Great Blue Herons are wonderful. Our neighbour texted us with pic. to say we had a Grey Heron on our roof a few days ago!
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline! We've been seeing an Osprey at our local lake lately. I hope it has a nest nearby.
DeleteIt is cool the heron landed on your roof. Take care, enjoy your day!
It's funny how a whole bunch of herons (like on your rookery) make me so happy, but a whole bunch of cormorants not so much. Sigh! Loved the osprey having lunch. That was a great birding trip!! I hope my comments are coming through. I'm still having some problems. Sallie (FullTime-Life)
