Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
As usual time is flying by, hubby and I try to get out often for our walks with nature. The following images are from our walk on the local NCR trail (North Central railroad trail) and some back yard birds seen on our Zinnia plant.
1. I am not sure if the top left flowers are honeysuckle or fuchsia, Damselfly, Fleabane, view of the trail and signs about the old NCR Railroad, A male Scarlet Tanager, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and another look at the Scarlet Tanager.
2. A beautiful male Scarlet Tanager perched in a tree along side the trail, once in awhile he would start singing.
3. Another look at the Scarlet Tanager, he is red with black wings. The Scarlet Tanager is a summer breeder for my area.
4. A mosaic with the American Goldfinch top left, two Eastern Bluebird. Later 3-4 Goldfinches could be seen on eating the seeds off my Zinnia plant.
5. I think the Bluebirds were curious at to what the Goldfinches were eating, they must have been hungry.
6. A closer look at the American Goldfinch.
7. A second young Eastern Bluebird was coming in for a landing on the Zinnias, the bird there looks surprised.
8. I am lucky to watch this scene with the Goldfinches and Bluebirds right outside my dining room window.
10. I counted at least 4 Goldfinches on the Zinnias below, how many can you find?
I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!
Here is my linky:
YOU are all # 1.
Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.
I love all of your birds… I found all the goldfinches (reminded me of a puzzle in a child’s magazine. Lol, you can save it for Wyatt!). Thanks for all you do.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sallie!
DeleteIt would make a colorful puzzle.
Take care, enjoy your day and weekend!
The Zinnias and these colorful birds are made for each other. They make great photos together. I enjoyed seeing the Scarlet Tanager, Fleabane flowers, Goldfinch and the young Bluebird. Great post!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the comment and visit!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Eileen - wow, I didn't know birds liked to visit zinnia plants. I am excited about that because I planted zinnias in my driveway baskets this year. They are not outside my window, but I can go out there occasionally and see what I observe! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie!
DeleteI was surprised to see the goldfinches pecking away at my zinnias, the flower petals were just being thrown off.
Take care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Hello Eileen,

Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful series of photos and collages you have made during your walks.
Beautiful this male Scarlet Tanager and the young Bluebird, again bird species that do not occur here.
Would you mind posting my link, I can't do that myself.
I wish you a nice weekend.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Both Scarlet Tanager and Bluebird are so gorgeous. I don't think I have ever seen them here...all we here are just loud parrots!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie!
DeleteI would love to see the loud parrots!
Take care, enjoy your day and weekend!
I counted 4 of them too! What a lovely scene! The Tanager is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rain!
DeleteThe Tanager is one of my favorites.
Take care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Dearest Eileen,
ReplyDeleteI also see 4 goldfinches on the zinnias. You live in a wonderful bird paradise and you also do a lot to make the birds feel comfortable. I am very enthusiastic about the colorfulness of your birds - the Scarlet Tanager is again an impressive example! The red flower on the top left is probably a Fuchsia boliviana or a Fuchsia loxensis (according to Google lens :-))
Hugs from Austria,
Traude

The NCR trail looks beautiful and greenish to walk, besides watching the birds and flowers, and the bluebirds and goldfinches seem naturally decorating the zinnia plant you got.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend
Thank you Jeevan!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
...the Scarlet Tanager is my favorite today, I rarely see them. Thanks Eileen for hosting, enjoy your weekend.

Nice images of three of my favorite birds. If you had not told me I would have counted only three goldfinches.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken!
DeleteIt is hard to see the female Goldfinch, she blends in well.
Have a great weekend!
Scarlet Tanager is a dramatic bird! i guess it could equally have been named a Black-winged Redbird! I quickly counted three goldfinches, but had to search a little for the drab female.
ReplyDeleteThank you David!
DeleteThe Tanager is a beauty, such a lovely color.
Have a great weekend!
Hi, Eileen! You are indeed lucky to have the Goldfinches and Bluebirds right outside your dining room window. Constant entertainment! :-) I enjoyed all your photos and your flowers are so pretty. The Scarlet Tanager … wow, what a beautiful bird. As a railfan (one who loves trains and railroads) I’m especially interested in trails along abandoned rail lines. Thanks for sharing your photos and for hosting another Saturday’s Critters. Best wishes to you and hubby from Seattle. John
ReplyDeleteThank you John!
DeleteThe birds are entertaining, always a treat to see out my windows.
We are lucky to have the rail trail just a short drive away.
Take care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Delightful photos of beautiful birds, Eileen. The red flower you are unsure about is indeed a fuchsia, (Fuchsia triphylla), see:

Gorgeous photos as always! Love seeing the tanagers, such beautiful birds. Not sure about the top left flowers but since I have a pot of fuchsia wilting away on my back deck and the blooms look a lot longer, I don't think it's those. Hope you are enjoying your Saturday!

HI Eileen, love seeing all the birds on the Zinnia, and the Scarlet tanager is awesome. The flower is what I call Trumpet Honeysuckle, it grows wild here too along my fence line. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sondra!

Take care, enjoy your day and weekend!
I really enjoyed seeing that scarlet tanager. Not something we see here. Hope your weekend is peaceful and restful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ellen!
DeleteYou have the beautiful Western Tanager.
Take care, have a happy day and a great new week ahead.
Birds and flowers sure make for great pictures. I so enjoy seeing the baby bluebirds. We had tons last year, but since our frigid temperatures last winter I haven't seen any. Too many didn't make it through the cold. :(
ReplyDeleteThank you Betty!
DeleteI hope your bluebirds return!
Take care, have a happy day and a great new week ahead.

Dearest Eileen; Oh, sweet birdies perching o the flowers; How Lovely♬ And I always admire and appreciate your contribution to us all and knowledge. Sorry that my link this week was not from real creature. I wish that it was OK to link.
ReplyDeleteI always feel sad that I can't see the birdies used to coming to the big tree in front of my house seems not coming as often as they used to.

ReplyDeleteThank you Diane!
DeleteTake care, have a happy day and a great new week ahead.
All your birds seem so exotic to me, we are suddenly overrun by cheeky sparrows here in Thailand, which seem a tad ordinary for the tropics! Thank you so much for being the best supporter, saw you on my YouTube and absolutely love having you in my cheer squad. You are the best! Have a wonderful day
ReplyDeleteWren x
Thank you Wren!
DeleteYou have so much to share from your beautiful Thailand.

Lovely images!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and for the comment!
DeleteTake care, have a happy day and a great new week ahead.
Hello Eileen. Sorry I can’t help you ID the flowers but there’s no mistaking the Scarlet Tanager is there? You really captured that male in full summer plumage. Same with the Goldfinch, and the young Bluebird, which is so unlike an adult. I’ts good to hear that you’re both getting out for regular walks during these troubling times.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links this weekend and enjoy your Sunday.
Thank you Phil!
DeleteI hope the bluebirds are finding some good insects to eat.
Take care, have a happy day and a great new week ahead.
I love watching your critters! Always nice to meet new bird species!

Dear Eileen, thanks for these beautiful images. The Goldfinch is spectacular. Your summer world looks so bright compared to mine, in the middle of winter I have linked to your meme. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day. Jo
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo!
DeleteOur summer is flying by, too quickly!
Have a great new week!
Todas tus fotos son preciosos, como lo son los pájaros. Vi cuatro jilgueros, son muy bonitos. Besos y feliz domingo.

I see 4 Goldfinches too. :) The image with the young Bluebird is gorgeous. Loved that one. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Monica!
DeleteThe young Bluebird is a cutie!
Have a great new week!
You are so fortunate to have such an array at your flowers and so close to your windows!! The tanager is striking, although I've never seen one here. The Eastern Bluebirds have been diving into my lawn right after I mow so perhaps cutting it often is a good thing. I don't grow Zinnias here but the Goldfinches are enjoying the Coneflower, Black-Eyed Susan and Butterfly Bush (insects perhaps??)....jp
ReplyDeleteThank you JP!
DeleteI do think the birds have plenty of natural foods to eat right now, they do not miss the feeders.
Have a great new week!
I am totally jealous of a few things ... The first one, your having Scarlet Tanagers on your side of the Potomac. How I would love to see such a beautiful bird! When we went to the sunflower fields a few weeks ago, there were a lot of Indigo Buntings, which are a treat to see too. The second thing I'm jealous of, are your Zinnias. I didn't plant them this year, and I am so missing having them. They attract the best to our yards, don't they?
ReplyDeleteThanks for another fun post! I hope all is well, and you've had a good weekend!! ❤❤
Thank you Kim!
DeleteI do love the Zinnias, I think I will try to plant them each year.
I heard there were crowds of people visiting that sunflower field.
Have a great new week!
Hello Eileen, I hope the new week has started well for you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs of both the colourful flowers and birds.
I think the male Scarlet Tanager looks beautiful or should I say handsome! What a wonderful colour he is.
Enjoy your week.
All the best Jan
Thank you Jan!
DeleteHave a great week!
