Saturday's Critters # 452

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

On July 30th, hubby and I took a walk at North Point State Park. I posted numerous times about our visits to this park. Usually we see some great birds there, the Little Blue Herons are missing this time. We saw adult and juvenile Bald Eagles, many Osprey, Great Blue Heron,  Green Heron, Tree Swallows, Turkey Vultures, Belted Kingfisher, lots of turtles, a black rat snake, DC Cormorants, Tern and Gulls, various butterflies and dragonflies.

Click on images for larger viewing.

1. Below top row: Green Heron, Gulls with domestic white Geese and one Tern, Great Blue Heron. Second row adult Bald Eagle, juvenile Bald Eagle and the two Osprey. Last row : Dragonfly, Belted Kingfisher, Monarch butterfly and Slider Turtles.

2. This Green Heron below has something in it's mouth, small fish or maybe a frog.

3. A distant view of the Green Heron with two Slider Turtles.

4.  A Slider Turtle with a dragonfly. Can you find the dragonfly?

5. I tried zooming in on this adult Bald Eagle.

6. The juvenile Bald Eagle was hanging out on a tree.

7.  A view of the Chesapeake Bay is at the end of the Black Marsh Trail, we could see lots of Gulls, a tern and  the domestic White Geese seem to be out of place.

8. Below a beach at the park, out in the bay are an Osprey and Double-crested Cormorants, Great Blue Heron and some gulls.

9.  An Osprey was seen perched on a tree branch.

10. I am guessing at these id's of various dragonflies top row:  Autumn Meadowhawk, a Green Darner, bottom row two different Blue Dashers.

11. There are lots of the Slider Turtles in the wetland areas of North Point State Park.

12. I found just one Great Blue Heron in the marshy area of the park.

I hope you enjoyed my photos and visit to the park. Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Thanks to all my visitors and for your past and present comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves and respects wildlife. Thank you for linking up a critter post.

Eileen, Thank you for hosting and sharing Saturday’s Critters #452. You are the best with collages … always enjoy them. Thanks for sharing your visit to North Point State Park. Great variety of captures! Love to see the Eagles! I did find the dragonfly in image #4. Love the turtles on the log! 😊 Hope your summer has been going well and hope you’ve had some good weather. It seems like I’ve been seeing a lot of stories about storms and heat back in the Eastern US and hope it hasn’t affected you. We’ve set new heat records again this year in Seattle, in one case, 6 days of over 90F in a row. That’s tough in a city where about 60% of the residents don’t have air conditioning. Take care and have a happy day and week ahead.

Hello Eileen and thanks for sharing the beautiful wildlife. I admire the Osprey in particular, perhaps because I still miss it in my photo album. The turtles are also nice to meet always. I too appreciate who respects wildlife.
Have a splendid weekend!

Hello Eileen,
The photo of the Green Heron is amazing. The green water suits the bird perfectly. Beautiful photo of the Osprey!

Hi Eileen,
Beautiful series of photos and collages, I love to see the dragonflies.
I also love to see the sea eagle, osprey and turtles.
Would you mind posting my link.
I wish you a very nice weekend.
Greetings Irma

it is a delight to see your shots today. Like beeing on a trip once again. Many of these I have seen but there are some beautiful dragonflies I have not seen. But that is not likely to find on such trips. Loved that green one. We don´t have such species in Sweden, at least as I know of. Have a nice week. :)

Phil Slade said...

Hello Eileen. You see so many species on your walks that I am quite jealous. I don't think that dragonfly should sit in that spot long - the turtle is looking quite hungry and longingly at a potential meal. Thanks for the link today, and enjoy your weekend. I'm off to sit in the sun!

Picture No. 11 is quite wonderful, Eileen. It has the feel of a primordial swamp, going back to the days of dinosaurs and ancient reptiles.

Hello John, thank you for visiting and for the comment. Our summer has been good, the days are flying by. There have been some bad storms in our area, but we seem to miss a lot of the heavy rain, we have been a little dry here. I can not imagine going through a hot summer without having air conditioning. Take care, have a happy weekend!

You saw a nice variety of wildlife. I wonder if the geese were deliberately abandoned there. I wonder if they will continue to evade predators. The shoreline sky shots are beautiful and the images of dragonflies in the mosaic are nice and sharp.

It is great to see so many turtles. I am impressed that you got so many shots of dragonflies and actually got ids for them.

Rostrose said...

That was again a lot of great animal sightings, dear Eileen!
Of course I can find the dragonfly - the turtle has a chat with it ;-)
Aah, Chesapeake Bay: Of course I knew this place was in the Northeastern United States, but I was most familiar with it because of one thing - my brother had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Apoll. (He was a lovely big dog, sadly passed away a few years ago. In this post from 2016 you can see old Apoll, as well as Kira, my brother's labrador girl, she was just a baby then - now she's already a big dog lady: https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2016/05/kira-ein-neues-familienmitglied.html)
Happy weekend and all the best

Thank you Traude! Hubby and I both loved our labradors, a yellow Labrador was the first dog we owned together.
Take care, enjoy your weekend.

Wonderful array of wildlife! The turtles were fun to see and the dragonflies! Does your water grow the toxic green algae because of the heat, Eileen? There are two reservoirs nearby us that have had that sadly happen this summer.

eileeninmd said...

Thanks Pat! I have seen the algae on top of our lake. This green water is more from the duckweed plant, it usually helps to keep the water clean. Take care, enjoy your weekend!

Yes! I'm number 30 on the list this week, I love my weekends off for so many reasons. Good morning lovely nature photos again from your outings, and yes i did spot the dragonfly, they are so lovely. Not sure either if it was a fish or bird being lunch, at first it seemed like a fish but then that eye could have been from a bird. We must enjoy these days of August because summer's end is slowing approaching and that's so sad. I wish we could have summer continue a bit longer, or at least a long and wonderful fall! Enjoy your day Take care.
