Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I will be away from my computer, I will be visiting your links as soon as possible. As always thanks for your visits, links and comments.
1. Sept 4th, I was able to catch the Cape May Warbler on the Devil's Walking Stick outside my window. The Devils Walking Stick is also known as a native plant called Aralia spinosa. As you can see there are plenty of berries for the birds to eat. I am pretty sure this is the male Cape May Warbler, they have the yellow cheeks and black streaks on chest.
2. Sorry these are not the clearest photos taken through my window.
Another view of the Cape May warbler. The photo does shows off the color and markings on this pretty warbler.
3. Sept 5, I've been watching a Gray Catbird in my yard. It also like the berries on the Devil's Walking Stick.
4. Sept 5th, our walk to the lake with the grand-dogs. The usual Belted Kingfisher was sitting in the usual spot. There are some leaves starting to turn colors, it looked a school of fish were coming to the top of the water, maybe to eat bugs.
5. Sept 5th, the Belted Kingfisher in it's favorite spot to sit. It is the same spot I saw the two Green Herons the week before.
6. Sept 7th, this was my view out my dining window . The fawn has lots most of it's spots.
7. Sept 7th, a wet Robin was eating some to the Devils Walking Stick berries.
8. Sept 7th, below is a wet Gray Catbird, American Robin and 2 white-tailed deer on our neighbors lawn.
9. Sept 4th, not critter photos but our neighborhood was part of the 1st Maryland Cycling Classic, 120 mile race with 111 riders representing 27 countries. I watched some riders pass by our driveway.
Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Hello Mae,
DeleteThank you so much for the comment and visit.
Take care, have a great new week!
The Devils Walking Stick Is a fascinating name for these plants. I often wonder how the came about it. The berries certainly attracted the birds. Cute deer and a nice capture of the bicyclists. Have a great weekend Eileen.
ReplyDeleteHello Denise,
DeleteThe Devil's Walking Stick's name is appropriate due to the thorns all along the branches. The birds do love the berries.
Thanks so much for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day and happy new week!
Very interesting sightings from your home. I liked the belted Kingfisher too!
ReplyDeleteThank so much for the comment and visit. Take care, have a great new week!

The Kingfisher is a top favourite of mine, for its rapidity and its beautiful colours.
ReplyDeleteThe deer are pretty as well.
I am away from my desktop too, these days, we are touring part of Tuscany.

ReplyDeleteThank you Cloudia!
DeleteHave a great new week!
Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteThe berries on the Aralia spinosa looks very pretty, and it's nice that the birds like them. I once had this plant, but I did not like the spines. The fawn was beautiful.
Take care, and have a happy weekend!
Thank you Marit.
DeleteThe thorns are painful, I try not to touch them. I know the birds loves these berries.
Take care, enjoy your new week!
You certainly have a good harvest of berries for the birds. We always say that means a hard cold winter. I wonder will that be the case this year. Love how you managed to captured the Cape May Warbler Eileen. Love the Dawn on the lawn. Thanks for hosting and commenting on my blog. Have a wonderful week ahead.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series of photos, the Cape May Warbler and the Gray Catbird, it's great to have them in your garden.
The deer in your garden are also great.
Can you post my link when you get back?
I wish you a very nice weekend.
Greetings Irma
Hello Irma,
DeleteThank you so much for the comment and visit. Take care, have a great new week!
Love the warbler photo! The whole series are great despite a bit low contrast. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the comment and visit. Take care, have a great new week!
DeleteHello Eileen :=)
ReplyDeleteI was interested in Denise's comment about how creatures and plants get their names, because I was going to say the same thing. Sometimes it's fairly obvious but the name Devils Walking Stick eludes me. It has a great quantity of seeds to attract a number of birds, The Cape May Warbler and Grey Catbird are lovely captures and birds. The Robin and White-tailed Deer are other great images. You must have very clean windows to photograph these creatures so well. :=)
Enjoy your weekend Eileen and thank you for hosting.
Hello Sonjia, The Devils Walking stick has thorns up and down the branches, no one wants to touch those thorns.
DeleteMy windows could use a cleaning, the rain is leaving marks. Thank you so much for the comment and visit. Take care, have a great new week!
deer in the yard is beyond exciting to me. those birds swoop down and eat all the berries and fly away pooping them out. look out below
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra! I hope you are back to normal soon, Hurricane Ian was devastating. Take care, I wish you happy day ahead.
DeleteThe deer are a welcome sight to see.
ReplyDeleteThank you William. Take care, have a great new week!

Hi Eileen that DWS plant is a bird magnet!! Can you send me a cutting??? For real,,,its brought some delightful bird to your yard,,,and so nice to see the deer...Enjoy the weekend and thank you so much for your visits to my posts,,,
ReplyDeleteHello Sondra,
DeleteI will see if my hubby will be able to do this, he has the green thumb. We do have a small volunteer starting to grow, maybe we can pluck that plant. Take care, have a great new week!
A little follow up read up on how to propagate the DWS Plant...and here is what i said.
ReplyDeleteDescription: Use one of the following methods for propagation: fresh seed sown in fall or stratified seed sown in spring; dormant root cuttings stored in cool, damp sand until spring; and/or transplanting of suckers.
Seed Collection: Seed is mature when outer covering of nutlet is hard and brittle. This may be before the fruit pulp has darkened. Clean seeds immediately to avoid fermentation. Plant or stratify immediately.
Seed Treatment: Stratification is for 30-60 days at 41 degrees.
Thanks for the info, I will try.

ReplyDeleteHello Maria,
DeleteThank you so much for the comment and visit.
Take care, have a great new week!
Love your critters every Saturday! Those deer look a bit scrawny for the coming winter. Hope they can find lots to eat. I miss the Devils Walking Stick that used to be in front of our library...it was removed to have a more organized garden appearance.
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara! I hope the deer stay safe, hunting started in our area.
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
Interesting photo of the robin peaking around some leaves.

That belted kingfisher is such a rakish looking bird. I love your warblers. So colorful!! 120 mile bike race, only for the extraordinarily fit!! Fun to watch though.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting.
Thank you Alan!
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
I’ve watched kingfishers along the boardwalk this summer. Love those critters. The storm took a lot of our leaves this year. We may not get much colour. Love the photo of the bikers, flying past in a human way.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie!
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
Hello Eileen, Holy berries, what an amazing feast, they aren't going to run out at all! Great photos even through your window, and the deer, especially fawns are such sweet creatures they are always a delight to see. My post is pretty much all about well you'll see, I went to spend my day off on Tuesday reviving myself from a busy work week. Take care and enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! There are plenty of berries left.
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!

Dear Eileen,
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that the Cape May Warbler, the Robin and the Gray Catbird find so many delicious berries in your garden and that you can also spot white-tailed deer in the neighborhood! Also during your walk with the granddogs you had again nice sightings of colorful foliage, a school of fish and your old friend, the Belted Kingfisher :-) Interesting also the big bike race that took place in your neighborhood - I know that something like this is exciting: When I was still living in Vienna, there was a section of the Vienna marathon in our neighborhood, in which a good friend and my husband ran twice. I always stood there with a small pennant and cheered on the runners :-D
Speaking of Vienna: This time I'm showing photos from a trip to our federal capital in my blog - and unfortunately I didn't photograph any real animals there - but there are art critters to see: A fish at a fountain, a dog in a stucco work, a swan and a horse (both pieces of broken porcelain art)... I hope you like these animals too!
All the best, have a nice Sunday and a happy new week!
Traude

Thank you Traude! I enjoyed your Vienna photos, such a beautiful city.
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
When we see belted kingfisher, we tend to see it in the same places too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda! They are creatures of habit.
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
Yes, the Belted Kingfisher is frequently seen in your posts these days, and the Devil's walking sticks hold a lot of berries, which is undoubtedly a feast for birds. I like the color-changing leaves and the great catch of the bicycle riders, and the woods appear to give them a pleasant feeling.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeevan!
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
Those berries were a feast for the birds visiting your garden. As always beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen!
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!

ReplyDeleteThank you Lydia!
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
I love that warbler...I think they are good photos, specially considering they are taken through a window.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rose!
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
Not many wet birds around here. The west is in a megadrought. I always think kingfishers are such amazing little birds. I may have seen one at the zoo, but it's been a long while since I've gone.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and visit! I love seeing the Kingfishers too, they are shy birds.
DeleteTake care, have a great new week!
Thanks for sharing the blog so well and I hope you have something new for me to study.
