I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes
I see the House Finches occasionally in my yard. They are not regulars but nice to see, especially the male with his pretty red head, neck and shoulders. The House Finch is a moderate sized finch. Some individual males can show orange or yellow rather than the red tones. The male has a distant red breast with a streaked belly.
Above a couple of male House Finches enjoying the birdseed. Their breeding habitat is urban and suburban areas. They eat grains, seeds and berries.
Above you can see a male House Finch with a couple of Goldfinches, you can see their size is just a little larger than than the Goldfinch.
Above is the pretty male with a female House Finch. Since in the past the House Finches have known to spread the disease that starts with their eyes. I have been checking out every House Finch in my yard.
Another comparison on the front of the feeder is a female House Finch and above is a Pine Siskin. They have the same coloring but a difference in size and the Pine Siskin has the yellow on its wings.
Not a perfect shot but I like this shot of the two male House Finches with the one female.

a kiss.
Great shots of the house finches. I enjoy them in my yard but they tend to move too quick for me to get many shots of them.
ReplyDeleteI really like your round wire mesh bird feeder. I'm going to look for one to hang in my tree. Hope the squirrels will not find it too much fun!! I love having the Finches visit!! Especially the golden!!
ReplyDeleteHow about I send you a Redpole and you send me a House Finch? Deal?
ReplyDeleteWe get both the House Finches and Goldfinches, and the Pine Siskins too. They are always fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteThese are so beautiful and colorful. We are seeing mostly goldfinches right now and a warbler flying with the flock!
ReplyDeleteYou may be a "God" to the birds.
ReplyDeleteWith such a big feeder in the winter.
love the finches on the blue feeder. Awesome photos
ReplyDeletehope you are having a great week.
ReplyDeletealways loved finches. great shots. ( :
The house finches are pretty little birds. I get a few in my yard once in a while.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a lot of those in Oregon and always enjoyed them.
I love the house finches, especially the males. It's always exciting to see a bird with color around here. You got some sweet shots!
ReplyDeletethe house finches are so pretty!
ReplyDeletei like to see these sweet birds here. just a spot of color and sweet sound.

Cheers from Cottage Country!
What cute little finches! I am always amazed at all the cute little visitors you get :) I guess the food really lures them in!
ReplyDeleteI love that you tell about your birds...you know so much about them...even about their eye disease! Astounding to me. I might read it, but I shortly forget what I read, but I certainly do enjoy having it in my thoughts for the short period it's there. Maybe if I could see them in person, it would stay with me longer. Pretty litlle house finches and gold finches! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOlá Eileen, que belissimmas aves e fotos estupendas! Adorei. Abraço Ailime
ReplyDeleteAs I've said, we have lots of finches this year. We have mostly Goldfinches --but also lots of female House Finches. I keep looking at them --looking for yellow, but see NONE... SO--don't think we have any Pine Siskins this year.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
Hugs,
Betsy

ReplyDeleteI love seeing the finches at the feeders!
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of those red headed finches around my house.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos as always!
But what will you do if you spot a sick one? Can they be helped?
ReplyDeleteTheir colors are so varied!
ReplyDeleteGreat series.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful pictures of the House Finches. We've had a few stop by our feeders, but don't have such wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteYour photos have been learning ones for me. I get confused sometimes with the finches and the pine siskins. I had a house finch or two into late autumn and hope come spring they will show back up.
ReplyDeleteNice shots of your yard birds Eileen!
I'm pretty excited to put up my brand new squirrel-buster seed feeder. I only wish I'd gotten the kind that spins the squirrels off at ninety miles an hour on a tangent. I'd never get my cat's nose off the window. Or my husband's either.
ReplyDeleteNice pictures you show of some beautiful birds. Wish you a good day :)
ReplyDeleteSome lovely pictures of the house finches.
ReplyDeleteFinches are wonderful birds - we only get sparrows!
ReplyDeleteCheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

ReplyDeleteVery nice photos of the finches, and an attractive feeder as well!
ReplyDeleteGood to see the comparison shots there Eileen. The House Finch is a asmrt looking bird with those shades of pink and red to look at. I hope they don't catch the eye disease and that if you do you can report it on. Enjoy the rest of the week, I know I will.
ReplyDeleteI can see the finches have a splendid place in your garden!
ReplyDeleteNice photos and I think the red male is so fantastic!
Greetings Pia
These birds are the most numerous of birds around my feeders here in Tucson.....sometimes in the 40' and 50's! With the house sparrows, there are around 100+ birds flying around:)
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, I sure do like House Finches! Your pictures are wonderful. They show how happy the birds are. Have a super nice Thursday tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThe House Finches really are pretty. I really like your shot of the pair since it gives a good look at the male's coloring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for helping me to see the difference between the pine siskin and the goldfinch! Your pictures are really clear and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA feast. What beauties.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen...I love seeing the House Finch when they are feeding among the Goldfinches, such a nice spot of color!!

ReplyDeleteI don't have many house finch here and I have have had the eye disease in the past..No pine siskins either.. Michelle
ReplyDeleteThe feeder is interesting. There's obviously something yummy about sunflower seeds too! My chickens always pick it all out first.
