Snow Geese

Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

Wishing all my blogging friends that celebrate a very Merry Christmas!!

For this week's wild bird I am sharing the Snow Geese. They seem to be plentiful lately. I have seen them in the Outer Banks, NC and in Smyrna Delaware..and at Chincoteague NWR

The shot above shows the rusty stain  on the Snow Goose face. The rusty stain can come from feeding and sticking their faces down in the muddy grasses.

The Snow Geese is white with black wing tips..

This shot taken in Smyrna, Delaware landing on a field.. not from from Bombay Hook NWR.

The Snow Goose has two color plumage morphs.. the white and the blue..The Blue goose has a white head, neck and tail tip and bluish-grey plumage.

Above is a video of the Snow Geese during the sunset at Chincoteague NWR, I love listening to these geese..The video is long but the best part is at the end..
Till next week's wild bird post.. I wish you happy Birding and have a wonderful week!

They certainly have a sound that must be evocative of winter for you people who have them visit your areas then. Most enjoyable.

Always a joy to see them.
Hubby and I are heading to Illinois end of February to see them at Emiquon and Chautauqua NWR. They are supposed to be in HUGE numbers ( 1 million PLUS!!!!) We always saw them in spring in Nebraska--this will be a new one for us. I never know what "spooks" them up, but it is fantastic to witness ......just bring your umbrella-haha.

Isn't it amazing that when so many birds are in the air there aren't more crashes! Must be the great air traffic control system God gave them. Have a very merry Christmas, Eileen.

(your mention of Smyrna, since we have a New Smyrna in FL, made me curious about the name. The original is an ancient Greek city settled in the 3rd millennia BC. May have been named for its chief export, myrrh. Kinda cool.)

Wonderful shots of the snow geese - they are among my favorites. We too love the sound of the flock flying about - it is almost like being in a snow globe when they pass right overhead.

Those thousands of Snow Geese could just as well be our winter hordes of Pink footed Geese except that ours are grey. It's a very evocative video Eileen.

Do have a wonderful Christmas and a bird-filled New Year.
