Linking up with Skywatch Friday and Good Fences
Sharing my photos from our most recent visit to Bombay Hook NWR in Delaware.. a sunrise shot and some scenes from our birding outing to Delaware.. We stopped at Port Mahon to look for owls and than we drove part of the wildlife drive at Bombay Hook NWR.. We were sad to see part of the wildlife drive was closed for hunting..I wish I had known in advance about the closure :(
For Skywatch Friday...the sunrise seen during our drive, I had to pull off the road to get this shot..
Port Mahon Road we searched for the Snowy Owl and Short Eared Owls but no luck there. We did see a young Red Tailed Hawk or Red Shouldered? And a adult Bald Eagle..
We stood on the pier to be up higher to look for the owls above the grasses.. This is the view from the pier looking out at the Delaware Bay. I hope this shot counts for both Skywatch and Good Fences..
Some of the birds we saw on the wildlife drive at Bombay Hook NWR. A Horned Lark, two more hawks and a Great Blue Heron.
Above a frozen pond, some Tundra Swans, ducks and gulls..
A couple of Tundra Swans and Canada Geese and a gull.
On the way home from Delaware..a shot for my Good Fence post.. a drive by barn and fence scene..
To end my post I have my capture of the crescent moon taken the evening before our Delaware trip..
I hope you enjoyed our Delaware day trip and photos.. Thanks for stopping by and for the nice comments..I hope you enjoyed your visit.
To see more pretty skies from around the world please visit Skywatch Friday
and check for more fence shots at Tex's Good Fences

Great set of images Eileen and I loved the long pier for the fences meme today
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen. It looks like a lovely day out despite the cold. What a shame that hunting takes priority over people who want to appreciate wildlife rather than shoot it.
ReplyDeleteMagníficas fotos sempre por aqui! Venho e me encanto! bjs, chica e lindo dia!@
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen, these are all great pictures!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunrise, beautiful critters.
Especially the swans with the ducks lined up :)
But my absolute favourite is the third one,
the pier into nowhere with a very pale sun :))
Have a very happy day!

Beautiful photos. The sunrise and the pier are my picks, but the birds are great too. Enjoy the rest of your week. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting and unusual shot with the ducks in the foreground and swans in the background. You really do get some great sunrises and sunsets.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love all your pictures. The sunrise is amazing and I wish I could go for a walk on that wonderful pier! And I love this moon-shot! Looks like a wonderful day :)
ReplyDeleteThat shot of the pier is really stunning, Eileen
ReplyDeleteGood morning Eileen and a lovely post to start my day off. Thank you! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteStunning photostoy!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the glow of the crescent moon. But the pier gazing at the foggy sea is the clear winner for me. Stunning!

Hi Eileen, What a wonderful and scenic day trip. Love the pier, as it just goes off and seems to never end. Love the moon shot and the birds are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGreat red barn behind the fence too.
Have a nice day!
Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos you show us.
Photo 1, 3, 6 and 8 I find really great.
Best regards, Irma
hi there!! wow, that is a gorgeous sun ... pink and orange colors. great capture. ( :
ReplyDeletehave a great Thursday.
Absolutely beautiful shots, Eileen...love the swans.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful set of shots. My favourite is the frozen pool shot. But I have to agree the shot of the pier is amazing - a one off!
ReplyDeleteWell, in spite of the closure you saw quite a bit!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Eileen. The birds and walkways, it is superb.
ReplyDeleteI really love that shot of the pier pointing off to that beautiful misty sky. super shot and yes it counts for both in my book.... i would love to see swans in the wild. i have only seen them in parks and they are captive.
ReplyDeleteWow, that pier capture is priceless, it's like we can walk right out on it. Sorry about the closure, I really hate when those things happen too.
ReplyDeleteYou have always been very interesting tour and very nice pictures. Today pier amazed me. Regards.
ReplyDeletesweet red barn, lovely skies, great sighting on the horned lark! but that pier shot is stellar!!! thanks, eileen!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Bombay hook as markings similar to the bobwhites we saw last week. Love your photos from the pier and of course the red barn and fence! These trip photos would make a beautiful book! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteWow...you have a jackpot of good photos here! I love the ones from the pier...and the one with the two swans on the water with the other birds in the foreground. that is wonderful composition.
ReplyDeleteLove the shot of the pier where the bay and sky seem to blend together.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed is an understatement ... these are some beautiful shots, Eileen and you saw some amazing birds ... I would say your day in Delaware was a complete success. I loved the crecent moon. What lens were you using to get that detail?
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From The Sol
Hello Andrea, I only use my CanonSX40. It does not need any special lenses..Thanks for the nice comment and visit.
DeleteLovely images - I especially like the pier. The sunrise is wonderful - winter gives us some glorious sunrises (and sunsets as well). The birds are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat first sky shot is gorgeous! You're lucky to have such a wonderful place in your 'backyard' so to speak. Looks like a wonderful way to spend the day.
ReplyDeleteyou always share such a beautiful variety of nature!! the skies have been amazing this winter and that pier shot is simply spectacular!!!!
ReplyDeleteohhhh and the glimpse of that red barn....all are just wonderful!!!!
Lovely set of images. I love the two swans watched by the row of geese!! Like watching bird royalty floating past. And then you see the birds have all turned their heads...asleep maybe?
ReplyDeleteThat third shot . . . wow!
ReplyDeleteNice walk .. The swans, geese and gull together is a good picture plus showing the relative sizes is a bonus. We once drove 25 miles to a refuge to find it closed on Fridays to "give the birds a rest". At least it was for a better reason than hunting (IMHO).
ReplyDeleteNice sunrise shot!
ReplyDeleteFantastic shot of the pier, Eileen, and nice photo of the swans and geese as well!
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I once attended a wedding in Harrisonburg, VA and took the long way home up the coast. We spent a day at Bombay Hook, one of the great birding spots I have ever visited.
ReplyDeleteFine post, but that moon sliver stands OUT! Wow

All the photos are beautiful but the pier ones get a triple wowza from me!!! I love them. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. Much appreciated!
Love those. The shot from the pier is great. Doesn't it seem weird that a wildlife refuge would allow hunting? Isn't it supposed to be a refuge? The two WR we have camped at this year allow hunting too.
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing images!
Great captures of the sky and the moon!
Love the shots with the bay and the birds!
Have a lovely evening!
Dimi...
It was fun to try to figure out your two hawks in the mosaic. Maybe you captured a Northern Harrier (upper right) and a young Red-tailed Hawk (lower left). But I'm far from an expert! - BusybodyinDE :o)
ReplyDeleteStanding on the jetty, looking out so far, beautiful, almost misty theatrical,.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great expedition, I love that sky pic. Those snowy owls will reveal themselves sometime!
ReplyDelete~
Great set of images, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteWonderful swans and geese, Eileen !!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos !!!
Enjoyed all the various sights you had the pleasure of enjoying. That pier looks like take you to a dropping off place.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful are the photos!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures and I love the drive by barn shoot.. Lovely!!
ReplyDeleteLoved this visit. Really like the perspective you captured down the pier. :)
ReplyDeleteAs always wonderful photos. The shot of the pier was really cool looking. You find some great birds to photograph, the Eagle is my favorite. I also enjoyed the swan/geese shot. Nice barn with the fence too.
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful captures of the birds, but that pier shot is my favorite today. It looks like it goes on forever. Beautiful! Have a nice day, Eileen!
ReplyDeletewow nice shot but my favourite is the Moon. birds are also very interesting..
ReplyDeleteGreat shots again. The moon, the sunrise and one of those with the bridge are my faves.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series Eileen… from the color filled skies through the black night and crescent moon!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots
ReplyDeleteDelightful, rosy sunrise. And I like the pier views - quite moody and appealing.
ReplyDeleteEspecially nice photos Eileen . . .
ReplyDeleteA sliver of a moon always gets me . . .
Your Delaware trip was very productive, Eileen! Wonderful photos!!
ReplyDeleteThe breaking of day... so magical.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a productive trip to Bombay Hook/area. Love the 3rd photo from the bottom of the swans and geese... The angle of that shot is terrific.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy

ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed your trip to Delaware. Your bird photos are as wonderful as ever, but I also liked your pictures from the pier.
ReplyDeleteCertainly the misty sunrise qualifies for Sky Watch! Nice shots of the birds.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sky! I love your photos of the pier! Those are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLove the shot of the pier, great trip you had.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Eileen :-)
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful area. you have plenty of wildlife reserves in your area i assume?
ReplyDeleteLove seeing those swans. Such beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful pictures. My favorite is the one from the pier looking out on the bay. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures as usual. I love a pink, blue sunrise.

ReplyDeleteOooh, lovely crescent moon, too!
Even though you didn't get to see the Snow Owl, the beauties you have captured are simply gorgeous and the photos speak for themselves, Eileen. Serendipity can be a blessing, you know?
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by my blog today.
Have a Beautiful Day!
Peace :)
Thanks for taking us along on your trip.
ReplyDeleteEileen, I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your image at the pier, looking out at the bay! And just the tiniest glint of sunlight on the water. Oh, it is absolutely lovely! If my MIL was still alive, she would want to paint this image. :)
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful birds, and gorgeous capture of the crescent moon!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Lindy

ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, I love that sunrise photo. Colors are awesome. Your description of a quick stop to capture the scene leaves me smiling ... I would have done exactly the same. Have a great weekend. John
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pier shots, Eileen...Moon is awesome as well..
ReplyDeleteEnjoying your trip shots, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Eileen, absolutely spectacular all photos! I was dazzled. Beautiful sceneries and birds! The bridge provided fabulous photos! I wish you a good weekend.
ReplyDeletelove the pier photos, gives the feeling of going right into the water
ReplyDeleteThis series of photos is amazing! All are great but I love those shots on the pier!
ReplyDeleteI did indeed enjoy your Bombay Hook NWR photos. I, too, wish they hadn't closed the trail, and especially for such a cruel (to me) reason. Sorry you didn't see owls but your sightings were amazing nevertheless, and as many have noted, the pier shots are extraordinary. The horned lark was especially interesting to me (hadn't heard of, let alone see one) and I always love your shots of the moon. Many thanks for sharing your world, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteThose are wonderful winter shot, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend.
Hi Eileen, I am quite fond of swans of all kinds! I like the mix of scenes in your post today. Have a most pleasant Saturday tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI love that dock shot!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your trip.
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful glow.
ReplyDeleteI could peer for ever at your pier shot.
ReplyDeleteWait a minute, doesn't NWR stand for National Wildlife Refuge? Doesn't refuge, by definition mean a place of safety? Why hunting in a refuge? That hardly seems fair :(
ReplyDeleteFabulous moon photo by the way.
take the boardwalk to heaven :)
