Happy Thursday, everyone! I hope you all have a great day!
Recently hubby and I went on an overnight trip to Shenandoah National Park. We stayed at the Skyland Resort in a nice room with a balcony.
This is a view from one of the overlooks on the Skyline Drive. We started the drive at Front Royal and drove down the Skyline Drive to Skyland, Big Meadows and a little past Big Meadows.
We walked on the Big Meadows, a little windy but it was a warmer wind.
We spent the night at the Skyland lodge and hotel. Our room was on the second floor and we had a great view of the valley from our balcony.
There were Robins all over the place.
We saw lots of deer later in the evening and in the early morning
We did see a lot of wild turkeys along the drive and in the woods.
We took a walk the first day on the Limberlost Trail. Along the trail we heard and saw some Blue-headed Vireo's, Hermit Thrush and Juncos.
Till this trip we missed seeing the sunset/sunrises at Shenandoah NP. We went on many day trips and left way before sunset to drive home. Years ago we went on many camping trips to Shenandoah NP, my days of camping and sleeping on the ground are long gone.
I am thankful to see the wildlife, like the deer and wild turkeys.
I am thankful for the beautiful sunsets, a simple pleasure I enjoy.
I am thankful for all your visits and comments.
Thank you Michelle for hostingHappy Monday, enjoy your day and new week! Thankful Thursday

ReplyDeleteThat first shot is breathtaking. Love the sunset shots and everything in between. This is one of my favorite areas to visit. I spent a lot of time taking weekend trips to Virginia when I lived in Raleigh in the 90s. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite parks there is always plenty to see and do there...I call what I do camping but my van is very cozy unless its cold...then brrrrr
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful to see these photos. It's like a little virtual trip for me to enjoy your trip!

What a beautiful place. I have never been to the Shenandoah, but I'd love to see it someday.
ReplyDeleteA nice day outside, lovely. The birds are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI haven't visited any national park for a long time.. Last I visited Yosemite last year.. :(
ReplyDeleteThat view is magnificent from your room.. love the bird hidden in all the tree branches
ReplyDeleteSo very beautiful!!! Your sunrise and sunset are just exquisite! How I love those parts of the day! Have a wonderful weekend1
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteThat was a nice trip. A wonderful location with a nice view of your hotel. Nice pictures.
Greetings from a warm Netherlands,
(especially 29 degrees for this time of the year)

SUCH a pleasure to be with you and to enjoy your photos, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteYour sunset pics are beautiful, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteDitto to camping in comfort. We have slept on tarpaulins, with just ground underneath, thin foam sheets, a blow up bed that deflated, a superb air bed, and now the luxury of motels, cabins and proper beds is wonderful. What super views, and great notices. You can still have the comfort and see the natural view, a great combination.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty pictures from your visit. I know you thoroughly enjoyed the lovely scenery and wildlife. Oh yes, your room looks very comfy as opposed to camping and sleeping on the ground!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a wonderful trip! I like the lovely views, the critters and especially the amazing sunset!
ReplyDeleteOh Eileen, it looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYou've shared some lovely photographs, especially your closing few of the sun.
No, I am not a camper either - I much prefer a nice comfortable bed!
My good wishes
All the best Jan
Beautiful sunset Eileen! And I’d love to spend more time in that area!...it was so beautiful on the one drive through we were able to do. Yes, we started out as tent campers too, but no more. Bill thinks every RVer should start out tenting, so that they learn to appreciate nature first before they make it easy.
ReplyDeleteSo nice you were able to get away to such a beautiful place with those views.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of the robin and the sky pictures are fantastic.
What a amazing trip.
ReplyDeleteAll the photos are beautiful but the capture of the sunset is spectacular.
Many greetings

We were here some years ago. It is such a beautiful place. Thanks for linking up today, Eileen. I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou always have such beauty to share with us :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing pics. Loved sunset views.
ReplyDeleteGreetings.
Nature is usual beautiful. But we haven't had any cool sun rise or set.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
Beautiful scenery and a lovely spot to stay. The best way to camp is in a nice room like this one.
ReplyDeleteI always think those wild turkeys look slightly scary or are they harmless giants? I would be thankful for a trip like this, looks lovely :)
ReplyDeleteWren x
Ooo - gorgeous sunset and views!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images of tranquillity and wildlife.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend!
I'm happy you took us along! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWonderful set of photos with great sky shots.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a nice weekend.
This looks like a beautiful getaway! Either you have a great zoom or those are very people-oriented deer! And gorgeous sunsets.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see wild turkeys I think --- Wow! THAT would make a mighty skinny Thanksgiving dinner. LOL
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a beautiful trip.
How nice that you visited my state! Shenandoah is such a pretty area to see... We have driven through once... I would like to go again, taking more time to stop along the way. It could happen! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteWow, love those last three photos. Beautiful skies and colors. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteEileen - there's something magical about meadows in the midst of the mountains. Glad you got to see a sunset for a change, not to mention all the critters! I love the shot of the turkey near the sign - I can almost imagine it's looking for a room!
ReplyDeleteI like camping but I don't know if my creaky body would cooperate. Perhaps glamping?
ReplyDeleteI love the Shenandoah area! It has always been such a favorite of mine and my hubby's. We miss it. Loved seeing your wonderful photos.
ReplyDeletebeautiful place. I like the name "skyline drive" :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely Earth Day post Eileen.
