Thankful Thursday

Happy Thankful Thursday!

The full moon in October 24th is called the Hunter's Moon or the Barley Moon. It was time to harvest the Barley. We had a clear morning so I was able to take some moon photos from my deck.

The moon on Oct 22nd.

The Hunter's moon on Oct 24th.

One of our recent walks on the fire road, this walk is almost a mile and a half from home. We saw some fall colors and a Northern Flicker and a distant hawk.

I posted this photo on the Maryland birds facebook group asking for id help. It was a toss up between the Cooper's hawk and a Sharp-shinned Hawk. More replies leaned toward the Sharpie.

The Northern Flicker high in a tree top. It was a cloudy day so the sky was not looking very pretty.

Pretty oranges and red leaves.

Some pretty yellow leaves.

We saw a lot of bushes along the fire road with these red berries. The birds could have a feast here.

Thankful for the helpful replies and answers to my hawk id request.
Thankful for clear skies and a pretty moon.
A thankful heart is a happy heart.
am thankful for all your visits and comments.

  13. Isn't it nice where there is someone that knows the answer to your question?

The flicker is beautiful and I think the fact that the skies were grey make the photo even more so.

  21. You take the best moon photos, Eileen! I've seen Cooper's Hawks here and this one looks a little too small to be one so I think it may be a Sharpie.

  22. The Hunter's moon was quite beautiful also in Finland as the weather was clear and light frosty. Your shots are very neat.
I like your birds too. Today in Italy I saw my first Nuthatch!

  41. I haven't seen any flickers for a long time. They used to be abundant around here. Good shot of the Coopers Hawk... We have several of them in residence. They sometimes follow mollie and I around on our walk. I have to keep an eye on her.Leaf colors are pretty right now..Enjoy your weekend.

  45. I love sharp shinned hawks. The neighborhood squirrels don't scurry from cover from them but they stop what they are doing and watch the hawk (like a hawk) until it leaves.
I always love your moon shots. I think from past posts, that you and I have similar cameras for those type shots.

Take care, I hope that you have a great weekend.
