Happy Monday Everyone!
Happy Earth Day! Time to get outside and take a walk!
Hubby and I have a lot of options for our walks. This fire road trail is close to our place and we do not have to drive anywhere. It is a 2 mile round trip walk from our house. We have views of the lake and some tall pine trees. We pass by the opposite side of the Great Blue Heron's nest, the same nest I see from our house and yard.
We saw a flock of Purple Finches during our walk, they have a sweet sound.
The Purple Finches stayed high in the tree, it was hard trying to get a good photo with branches in the way.
A flock of mixed finches were in the trees above the fire road, this was a Goldfinch.
I love these pine trees.
There is NO Planet B. Take care of our Earth!
A view of the lake, pine trees along the fire road, a few nest high in the trees and a Turtle. Recently blogger John from John's island asked me if our lake had a name. The name of our lake/reservoir is Prettyboy, it is one of 3 reservoirs that hold drinking water for Baltimore City. We are at the top part of the lake and there is a dam at the lower section. I have blogged many times about our walks around our Prettyboy lake and at the dam.
A view of the lake, there is a turtle on a log and a fisherman nearby.
We have another view of these Heron's nest from our house but this view was from the nearby fire road. There are two nest below one nest looks very small is is still being worked on and then there is one right below which is more substantial in size.
This nest is in a bare tree, I worried when I could see the nest and tree swaying back and forth on a windy day.
Thanks for your visit today! I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

Great shots of the Purple Finches.
Enjoy your Easter Monday!
Maravilha!! Hoje é o dia da Terra! Temos que preservar! beijos, linda semana! chica
I am assuming those pines were originally part of a plantation. They look a little rectilinear and it would seem odd to have that concentration of conifers so far south.
Hi David, thanks for the comment. Previously the land which is now the reservoir and watershed was farm land and there was an old paper mill at one time. The Virginia Pines were planted as far as I know.
...love the trees!
Hello,
The little nest looks not safe at all. Beautiful images!
Happy new week!
I love these pine trees, too. How tall and glorious! The finches of different colors are lovely. You live in such a nice place where you can be tuned with such a wonderful nature. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week.

Mother awes me with all her wondrous work.
What a beautiful place to be able to walk. I love all of the trees. You're lucky to have it so close that you don't even have to drive to it.
Happy Earth Day, Eileen. You are so right about no Planet B. It's a lovely one!
I love being out in the woods...right among the tall trees! A lot of people walk in our neighborhood but I drive a short distance to get out in the forest! Love your post today. We are kindred spirits for sure! Hugs, Diane
I love the elegant lines of the trees!
Prettyboy Lake---interesting name. What a great walk. Lucky to see the nests. On my daughter's ranch there were 5 nests and it was fun to watch the Heron----long legged birds up in trees--LOL. One 4th of July there was a massive wind storm there and blew down all the nests and broke up the trees. A tragedy. No new nests yet.
Thanks for the lovely shots

Hej Eileen!
i always worry about those nests, my heart breaks when they fall out!! so often the small nests do and i think all that work for nothing. but it's so funny how quickly they can build a replacement...if only it were that easy for us!!!
you are lucky to have so many choices for a walk and even luckier to see so many beautiful creatures!!! and those tall trees, the images are gorgeous!!!
nice upwards pictures of the forest
that fire road is my kind of place to walk. I like it so much better than paved roads or boardwalks. natural is good. the trees are so majestic... I could stare at them all day..... and close to home WOW
Love the photo of the turtle hanging out on the wood!
Happy Earth Day to you. You really do have some lovely places to walk and enjoy all God has created for us to enjoy!
such a lovey area around you an nice to have it so close
I love those trees and the trail. A lovely place to walk and enjoy nature.
Enjoy your day and new week!
LOVE!!!the perspective of your tree photos!
I'm watching the finches now too. Funny the purple finches are really red and the red buds are more purple/pink than red! You got some great shots.
A beautiful place to be able to take a walk and so close to your home. Love all the pines and the turtle too.
That trail in the pines looks like one I would love to run on. Loved your finch photos! Thanks for sharing.
What a delightful walk so close to home. So much to enjoy and admire.
I love to take walks in the woods. But I have to be careful of the snakes, and chiggars and bobcats and now we have a bear in the vicinity. So, I don't really go by myself much anymore.
Gorgeous nature shots ~ each one so special ~
Happy Day to you,

I love the tall trees, and birds, they are lovely. Have a beautiful week.
I got some pics of some Purple Finches this week. You will see one on Saturday! It was a gorgeous Earth Day here!
I went outside and did some WORK! It was wonderful in the sunshine! Lots of birds. No bears, thankfully.
What a wonderful place to go walking. Love the turtles.
I love the tall tress and beautiful purple finches in your area, Eileen. Happy Earth Day!
I can never believe that a heron nest will last but they do!
I used to get purple finches at my feeders when I lived in N.H.
Prettyboy and its surroundings are so pretty. Enjoy the good weather. Enjoy your walks. :)
Eileen - I like your pictures looking up into the trees - an intriguing perspective! That turtle looks like its enjoying the sun … aren't we all? I agree with you, that new heron nest looks precarious - hope it makes it! Thanks for sharing these wonderful Earth Day photos with everyone at Mosaic Monday!
Such a beautiful place to enjoy! So nice that it will remain pristine as a reservoir. Beautiful photos of the wildlife and lake. The Heron building the nest is a great capture! Hope you had a lovely Easter. xx Karen
Those trees are fabulous Eileen Great to see the Heron on its nest
Morning Eileen. Prettyboy is a wonderful name for the lake. The whole area is not just pretty but very beautiful with those stands of tall pines. I can almost smell the pine from here. It is quite unique that aroma that pines emit as you walk amongst them. Happy walkng - and birding.
Hi Eileen!!!Lovely shots of a pretty birds.. And wonderful forest.. Cheers
You captured wonderful photos on nature and great post for the earth day! I loved the pine trees and I have enjoyed seeing them in our hill stations and forest but in cold and rain they make feel much colder. Beautiful lake
Loved the post and pics.
Save Nature, Save Earth...
Greetings
Love the trees and turtle. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! You are so fortunate to have such a beautiful spot to walk and enjoy near your house. Seeing the heron building its nest was fantastic. Being such long legged creatures, it didn’t occur to me that their nests would be so high in the trees. Lovely photos all.
a fine walk close to hoem is a great thing to have. You don´t always want to drive many miles for a walk.
But, the nest, I would be careful if I were that heron. Not sure if it is a good idea.
I like the forest you have :) It is more open then ours.
The photos of the woods are so relaxing. Makes me want to go into the redwoods.
WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS
Lots of good bird company for you.
What a great place to have so close to home!!!
Andrea
Beautiful photos Eileen. Yes, there is no planet B!
How lucky you are to have such trails withing walking distance of your home, Eileen. The trees are stunning. We have some very nice trails around here as well, and hilly ones, which I like better than flat, but we have to take the car to get to them.

Turtles on a log and songbirds are two of the best things about spring/summer! We seldom see purple finches, but they are so pretty!
I like that line "there is no Planet B"......need that posted everywhere for a reminder but wouldn't that be defeating the purpose by posting signs. A conundrum.
Hi Eileen, What could be better than the combination of you, your camera, and this beautiful area? Enjoyed all these photos! Thanks for the mention, link, and answer! Made me smile to see the turtles were out at Prettyboy just like Green Lake! :-) Have a happy day and rest of the week! John
always a great day to take a walk. hope u r well. looks like rain ...but nothing is falling? so green. ( ;
I love the purple finches, have a good week.
Yours is a very pretty walk. I love the trees, even in photos, I feel my breathing get deeper. Thank you.
