Our January 1 2012 was a somewhat of a mild day and hubby and I had to get out and take a walk. Hubby and I both love to hike and being outside and enjoying nature. Some say they are ringing in the New Year but hubby and I did some birding in the New Year. I started a new list of birds seen for 2012 and I got off to a great start with 25 birds. The day started with my first bird heard was the Barred Owl, I was standing outside at 5:30 am with my dog when I heard the owl.
The mosaic above I have some shots from Loch Raven Reservoir. Birds seen here were lots of Canada Geese, Mallard ducks, Ring-necked ducks, Buffleheads, lots of gulls and two eagles.

I was able to take a video of two eagles playing around over the reservoir.
I had a great day and I hope everyone else did something they really enjoy. I wish everyone all the best in 2012 and a very Happy New Year!!!!

The photos above are some of my backyard birds, the American Goldfinch, Carolina Chickadee and the Bluejay.
The mosaic above I have some shots from Loch Raven Reservoir. Birds seen here were lots of Canada Geese, Mallard ducks, Ring-necked ducks, Buffleheads, lots of gulls and two eagles.
Loch Raven is one of three reservoirs that supply water for Baltimore City. On the weekends they close off part of the road around the reservoir so people can hike, bike and jog right on the road. It seemed like a lot of people had the same idea as hubby and I and were out walking their dogs. Goldie Girl was a happy dog today.

Hi Eileen, Love your bird shots and it was fun watching the video. Hubby has been sick since last Tues. night so we have been stuck indoors. He has one more day off of work and is feeling better. Hopefully we'll get out and enjoy our mild weather tomorrow. Happy 2012!

What an awesome post! As soon as our tree goes down my daughter and i start our winter bird watching. It's our favorite way to pass the winter months. Your pictures are wonderful! I'll be sure to check back often!

The end of each year is the annual bird count by our Naturalist group around here. Hubby missed it this year for the first time. It was very damp and foggy so not sure how many the birders did count. It looked from your photos you had a spectacular day to be out. How wonderful to hear the barred owl. Happy New Year.V

What a great video of the eagles. I need to go to our reservoir and try to spot the eagles. I know there have been some there but I haven't tried to spot them since I got into photography. Naturally the one time I did see them was years ago before I was trying to photograph birds.
I also enjoyed your backyard birds and shots from your walk.

Oh Eileen -- that is such a perfect way to celebrate New Years!! Your bird pictures are wonderful -- I am in awe that you got such a good still AND the video of the eagles. Wow! (I have trouble managing both binoculars and a pocket camera!)
