Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes and NC Sue Wordless
I hope you can join in and share your wild birds and nature scenes.
For this week's wild bird I am sharing my latest lifer #451, the Gull-billed Tern. Hubby and I took a quickie overnight visit to the Jersey shores. We visited Cape May NJ and one of our favorite wildlife refuges Edwin Forsythe NWR near Atlantic City NJ. My lifer was seen at the wildlife refuge and hubby was the first to spot the Gull-billed Tern.
Hubby was the first to notice this bird's bill. It is a heavier black bill than the small terns. The Gull-billed Tern is considered a scarce coastal species seen in the summer months.
We watched the Tern for a while splishing and splashing in the water.
I hope you enjoyed my latest lifer and wild bird post and photos. Till next week's wild bird post. Join in and post your birdies and to see more beautiful and wonderful bird and nature photos please visit:

I have never seen a gull billed tern before, it looks like a fluffy bird.
They are having a bad hair day, lol..So cute! Their head feathers remind me of me with bed hair :-)
Very nice shot.

Nice photos! This bird looks all ruffled up. :)
I like that fuzzy, first shot!
Amazing the birds you find!
everyone needs to break down and take a bath now and then. Even we writers have to do it. *wink*
Lovely shots of the tern, Eileen! I'm always entranced watching any bird bathing. They are so cute and have no idea their feathers are sticking out every which way. :)
Congratulations on another lifer! You got some fabulous shots.
Beautiful bird and great photos!
Congrats Eileen on the sighting. I have yet to see one of these birds and after seeing your pics, I have a clearer idea about what I'm looking for. I always love the combo names....Tern or Gull?:)
Wow, that is an amazing bill! Such a sweet face, and it's snowy white feathers with the stark black makes him quite handsome. Great captures out there the water looks so inviting too!
Wonderful shots, Eileen - I always love to see what you have captured in your lens! This one is a beauty!
Haven't ever seen a gull-billed tern here in Texas, but we do love NJ (Raf grew up there) and Cape May is beautiful!
Aww these look so sweet :)
Now you mention it - yes it does have a heavier black bill.
Have a great week.
All the best Jan
He looks so sad when all wet!! Great shots, Eileen!
a great sighting, good eye by the hubs!!! although it looks like it may have been caught on a bad hair day ;)
Very nice! I like the heavy bill!
That's a fluffy looking bird - it looks like he just got out of bed. ;-)
I used to spend summers in Cape May..actually got married there..That was before I was a shutter bug unfortunately..Cool bird..
Hi Eileen, My take on this bird (I never have seen one in person) is that the bill resembles that of a Belted Kingfisher a bit. Glad you have photographed the bird. Have a fantastic Wednesday tomorrow!
congrats on the lifer! I don't believe I've ever heard of a gull-billed tern
Looks like the tern is feeling cold!
Wonderfully captured.
This is a beautiful bird, Eileen.
I am glad you got to capture him with you camera, even during seasons when he is scarce.
Have a Beautiful Day!!
Peace :)
Wonderful Eileen . . . one more LIFER!

Congratulations on the lifer, and thank you for sharing this interesting bird. Have a great day Eileen.
Hi Eileen, I usually comment on your other blog but couldn't leave my comments today... a message came up saying I had to be a member? It's the post with the lovely sculptures, I particularly liked the one of the couple sitting on the bench.
Hope your week is going well.
Take Care
All the best Jan
