Saturday's Critters #257

Welcome to Saturday's Critters !

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

I have lots more from Edwin B. Forsythe NWR in New Jersey. It was very ducky, high numbers of Northern Pintails, Black Ducks and the Mute Swans. Many Egrets and Great Blue Herons, I was in birdie heaven. Snapping away and looking here and there, afraid to miss something. The one I missed was a Eurasion Wigeon that was being seen for a few days. I did see an American Wigeon.

I am not positive about the smaller of the two below, the larger is the Great Egret. But, the smaller wader looks to have greenish legs maybe a juvenile Little Blue Heron or is it a Snowy Egret?

More Mute Swans and various ducks.

The Northern Harrier was flying by and shaking up the ducks, every once in awhile the ducks would fly up and around and then land again. The phragmites an invasion plant and common weed seems to be all over the refuge, they have been cut in some places along the drive.

This photo looks better enlarged, please click on it for a better view.

A group of gulls and a cormorant were hanging out near where the water was being controlled.

A gathering of DC Cormorants. We like visiting this refuge twice, once when the tide is high and then again early morning the tide was low. The birds are attracted and to the open mud areas.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments !

Here is a list of my linky parties:

Also visit:  I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the gracious host: Anni.

Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

This habitat looks very similar to many lake habitats in Bangalore. Migratory season is here and we are seeing many winged visitors from far away lands.

I love all your bird photos Eileen. I especially like the ones of the two swans swimming amongst the darker coloured geese. I do love birds of all kinds. Though I'm not really an avid birder I do love all the variety that I see in photos and sometimes if I'm lucky, in person. I laughed when you said you were in birdie heaven. I do feel quite blessed when I get to a place that has a variety of birds for me to enjoy. Have a blessed weekend.

You obviously had a great time, Eileen, at what is clearly a wonderful birding destination. My guess for the small heron, based on a fairly inconclusive picture, is juvenile Little Blue Heron. Have a great weekend.

So many birds Eileen. You really needing to be looking in all directions there. It's always nice to watch a harrier beating up and down. They sure keep the other birds on their toes don't they? Thanks for the chance to join in today. Enjoy your weekend.

Hello Eileen! I sure enjoyed this post and can see why you called it birdie heaven! :-) You got some excellent photos at Edwin B. Forsythe NWR! This morning I have been putting together a post for John's Island when I thought ... It's Saturday and I should include something so I can link up with Saturday's Critters. Your guidelines say it is OK to use "pretend" critters. :-) So, I recalled the critters my room steward made for me while on my recent cruise. I think it might be a Brachiosaurus. What do you think? Have a happy weekend and thanks for sharing and hosting.

it looks like such a great spot, i must go!! i had hoped to visit this weekend but the hubs has a "man cold" and he is really "suffering"!!

funny the behavior of the harrier and the ducks, i have never seen a harrier in the wild. the photo you suggested i enlarge is a great image...i am always amazed and happy to see the large groups. always in the center of the lake making pictures difficult!!

i have been seeing a lot of our migrating ducks. i don't know if they stay or are just passing through. i guess time will tell!!

have a great weekend eileen, i think we are expecting a lot of sunshine!!

Very nice selection, I was trying to remember the iD for egrets better. Some has different colored legs and beak and others match. I see quite a few through the summer here, but most have left.

you always amazed me with your knowledge about birds..

Love the great variety of birds. We got our first harrier this past week. The gray bill with dark tip along with those greening legs do fit immature Little Blue Heron.

I miss those days! Not much of any wildlife around anymore. But, I did see 3 bullfinches in the tree this morning. I hope they will be back. I did not get any shots of them.
