Happy Monday,
In early October hubby and I were able to getaway to Chincoteague Island Virginia. We were still wearing our mask and keeping our distance and trying to stay safe and healthy. A great deal of time we were either in our car or enjoying the outdoors. We enjoyed the change of scenery with walks on the beach, seeing the wild ponies, lots of shore birds, fresh air and the sounds of the ocean.
1. Photos below of our walk on the beach, near Tom's Cove, there was a huge flock of terns mixed with gulls, cormorants and the Sanderlings were seen on the beach.
2. Me and my shadow, walking on the beach at Chincoteague.
3. The Chincoteague ponies were a distance away, some were seen in the corral. The wild ponies were being rounded up for a fall health check up.
4. Some ponies were already in the corral, waiting for their health check up.
5. Snowy Egrets, DC Cormorants, Great Egrets and White Ibis were plentiful, seen all around the Chincoteague NWR.
6. Lots of Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Tricolored Herons and White Ibis.
7. Social distancing at the Chincoteague Island beach, also known as Assateaugue Island National Seashore.
I'll have more to share on our visit to Chincoteague Island and the National Wildlife Refuge and National Seashore.
We are still hanging in there, happy and healthy. I hope everyone is safe,
happy and healthy.

What wonderful lighting at the beach and sandy shore. Ponies in the wild … enjoying all that freedom, I wonder how they like having health checkups. They seem content from a distance. :)

Does the fire company still auction off ponies as a fundraiser? Our neighbor had one. I rode him quite often. He was a very fuzzy fellow in the winter time.
ReplyDeleteHi Dee,
DeleteUsually the pony auction is every July. Not sure if it happened this year due to COVID?
Take care, enjoy your day!
Beautiful! I do love the beach and when I was growing up we always laughed at the name. My dad had family up there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun relaxing get away.

Eileen - on our one and only trip to Chincoteague, it was early summer and the mosquitoes were awful! Glad to see you had such a pleasant visit and were able to take pictures of so much wildlife! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie!
DeleteI will not visit in the summer, the mosquitoes and flies are awful.
Take care, enjoy your day!
The air on the ocean, walking on the beach is a very good way to get a free head. To forget for a hour the sorrow around Covid-19.
ReplyDeleteLovely captures... and I agree with your meaning. We can help us with doing things in nature. A walk - like your example - or gardening too.
Stay healthy and well, dear Blogfriend.
Thank you for the comment and visit!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day!
love the terns and gulls! It is soo spring like. And I think they are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd those ponies, so much cute ones. Are they wild? So rare to have them run free. It is a good thing.
Nice places you visited. I always miss the ocean, it is strange as I never lived near it.

Your world is so lovely, and every photo a beautiful sight, very much so compared to the white stuff that is falling down outside my window. Missing Alabama for yet another reason! Right now at my daughter's house it's in the high 70's and no white stuff, except that found in the cotton fields!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen!
DeleteI am not ready for the snow, you can keep it there.
Take care, enjoy your day!
beautiful light, lovely horses and a great selection of birds
ReplyDeleteThank you!

Glad you able to travel out of your comfort zone in the woods, and the beach looks like the safest place to wander to watch birds and ponies lining up for checkups. Refreshing in glistening sunlight and sea breeze! Beautiful shots

You just opened a floodgate of happy memories, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteChincoteague was our absolute favorite place to visit when we lived in Maryland. We would often camp at Blackwater NWR and spend some days combing the beach at Chincoteague. Great times!
All is well here in the Florida swamps. Fall migration is keeping us busy exploring. Have a great week!
Thanks Wally! Blackwater and Chincoteague are some of our favorite places to visit.
DeleteBut, the Florida parks are great too, there are so many places to see birds.
Have a great day!
Beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteThank you William!

Every time I hear Chincoteague, I think of the book Misty of Chincoteague...I read it but cannot remember it for the life of me. But of course I would have enjoyed a visit, so enjoy your photos.

Nice! I love Chincoteague and Assateague but we aren't likely to go this year. It's a long drive especially when there are delays at the Bay Bridge.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the week.
Thank you Linda!
DeleteThe bay bridge was awful heading down, there was an accident and it took a long to get across the bridge.
Have a great day!

Beautiful beach pictures! For just a second or two I had to think about cormorants before I came up with “Double Crested” ... I guess I had another DC on my mind this election season ))
ReplyDeleteThanks Sallie!
DeleteYes, they are the Double-crested Cormorants. I was being lazy typing just DC Cormorants.
Take care, wishing you a great day and a happy weekend!
