Happy Monday,
It is hard to believe it is the last week of October, these days are going by way too fast. I am sharing some of the fall colors, back yard birds and neighborhood scenes from our walks. I have a mix of migrant warblers and FOY winter birds arriving, I am lucky to see some great birds in my backyard.
1. Hermit Thrush on the Devil's Walking stick, eating berries.
2. A walk on our local fire road, the trees were looking pretty and colorful. The shorter bushes were turning a pretty yellow color. The bigger trees were lovely oranges and yellows.
3. Scenes from my ride to pick up our carry-out dinner from the local Friendly Farm restaurant. They have a few ponds, the Canada Geese seem to enjoy hanging out at the pond and their property.
4. My new feeder, I have a mixed blend of sunflowers chips, safflower and peanuts. The birds seem to enjoy the new food.
Birds seen below are the Tufted Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch and a Carolina Chickadee.
5. The view out my kitchen window, the fall colors are looking pretty. We have a nice view while washing dishes.
6. A week later, the same view out our kitchen window, fall colors are a little more colorful.
7. Our potted plants on the deck are still blooming, the Lantana has lots of blooms as of 10-21-20.
8. A look at the fire road and the the colorful trees. A pretty day for a walk.
9. One evening we had a pretty sunset, seen from our deck.
10. I am ending with some more back yard birds seen on 10-19-20, a few new winter birds have arrived.
Below in the top row: A Northern Mockingbird and a male Blue-throated Blue Warbler. Bottom row is a female Purple Finch with an American Goldfinch mostly hidden, the Red-bellied Woodpecker and my FOY Red-breasted Nutatch.
My world lately is like this mish-mash post and photos from the middle of October. The fall colors seem to be a hit or miss. Some leaves are not colorful and seem more of a dull rust or brown, more leaves and acorns are on the ground. We voted, we dropped off our ballot in a local drop box. We already had an email stating it was received. Hubby and I are happy and healthy at this time, I hope everyone is doing well too.

ReplyDeleteFor the first time in a week as I look out my window, the sun is shining and all the colours in the trees and hillsides are singing of autumn... but in a week or two it will be uniform 'dun' and winter will be biting in. I've already had to discuss Christmas arrangements for father's cares and 2121 looms large... grasping all these moments in our camera lenses helps to stabilise the year I think! (at least a little). YAM xx
Thank you YAM!
DeleteI hope all goes well for your father!
Take care, enjoy your day!
Glad to hear that you voted, Elaine. i hope that in just a matter of days, I will hear that you are raising a glass to toast President-elect Biden, and the worst nightmare in American history is behind you.
ReplyDeleteThank you David!
DeleteI am hoping for better times ahead.
Take care, enjoy your day!
Hello Eileen,

Hi Eileen :) Your sky photos are beautiful and I love the trail with those big trees! Our weather is getting chilly...snow in the forecast tomorrow but I'm sure it'll all melt as soon as the sun hits it. I refuse to accept snow yet! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Rain!
DeleteIt is chilly and rainy here, low in the 40's.
I am not ready for snow or a cold winter.
Take care, enjoy your new week!
Eileen, your colors are really coming along down your way. I agree, your new feeder seems to suit the locals just fine!!...jp
ReplyDeleteThanks JP!
DeleteYes, the new feeder is a hit.
Have a great week!
The sunset is beautiful indeed!
ReplyDeleteFunny, just yesterday Hubby called me over, "be quick"! It was a woodpecker right by the window, the first one I´ve ever seen. Sadly, thanks to my "quick" he saw the movement and as quickly flew away...
Thank you Iris! I hope the woodpecker comes back so you can see it again.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your new week!

Hi Eileen, I went and did absentee in person voting so Im all done, last week of the ads on tv and internet so happy...my email box has been bursting at the seams I unsubscribed to all of them now. Awesome fall color and the birds are really enjoying your new feeder. I don't have any new comers to the yard yet Im anxiously awaiting their arrival..the white throats my favs, have been in sharp decline the past 3 or 4 yrs hope I get some this winter. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sondra!
DeleteI have a lot of junk emails, I am tired of all of them.
I seem to have less White-throated Sparrows too. In fact, I am seeing less and less of my yard birds.
Take care, enjoy your week!
my corner of the world is much like yours. our colors have been hit or miss and we have had so much rain and fog, i have not seen the sun in ages!! i like rain, i never complain about it BUT i am so over it now, it is pouring as i type!!

The fire road reminds me of the trails we have here. So pretty. The Canada Geese are flying over here these days. The young ones have finally got the v formation conquered.

Red-BELLIED woodpecker always cracks me up with that most red HEAD!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteWe found the same thing with the colors. Some areas around here are brilliant. Others more muted and SOME have already dropped most of their leaves and it looks like WINTER!
Thank you Dee!
DeleteI think I have some photos somewhere showing that redbelly.
Take care, enjoy your day!
Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful autumn colors can be seen from your kitchen window! So it gives pleasure to wash the dishes;)) !!

This time of year is so perfect for pictures. The trees really put on a show, and when the sun goes down there's a lovely glow.
ReplyDeleteI used to go to Friendly Farm with my parents and my family! I have pictures of my kids when they were little, running in that grass and trying to make friends with the geese by the pond. Lots of good memories there.
Thank you Minerva!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day!
We have been going to Friendly Farms for years too.
DeleteA wonderful Post as ever. Yes, Eileen, time is running. We become older and older... and we make the best of each day! Like your captures me showing, too.

Wonderf ul photos, Eileen and look at all those birds ar your feeders--wow! I don't know why but our fall colors were brighter than ever, even though we had drought all summer and an early frost and snow. I'm glad I enjoyed them as now we have snow again and most of the tress will lose their leaves this time around. We needed the snow as it will help the fire fighters thta are fighting Colorado's wildfires. Sadly quite a bit of the wester part of RMNP had fire.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pat!
DeleteI hope the snow helps put out those wildfires.
Take care, enjoy your day!
Lovely mosaics of fall and birds. Especially love the titmouse, it have such gorgeous eyes :) It is always nice to see all the Canada geese gathered. Even if it means they are about to leave. Your autumn colors are the same as ours. But it will soon be over and then it gets dark.
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Thank you Monica!
DeleteThe geese will be here all winter.

The views in your yard are amazing! We have far fewer birds at the feeders, but we are in a city with a small yard, far from water. We do have some nuthatches and a few species of woodpecker on the suet.
