Saturday's Critters #355

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Sept 23rd, I am still seeing the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and a few warblers in my yard. The Red-eyed Vireo and a few Scarlet Tanagers were also seen. Some other yard birds seen were the White-breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, Downy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker and Mourning Doves.

Here is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, resting on the Buddleia. As of the 9/25 I was still seeing 1-2 Hummingbirds in my yard.

A Red-eyed Vireo was seen at the Devil's Walking Stick berries.

The Cape May Warbler, female or juvenile is still hanging out eating some berries too.

Some of my yard birds: Downy Woodpecker, Carolina Wren, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Chipping Sparrow and the Northern Cardinal.

Sept 25th yard birds: I saw 2 Scarlet Tanagers, one was a bright yellow which is the top photo below and the 2nd one was a duller yellow on the middle right photo. Middle left photo is a Cape May Warbler and the center middle photo is the male Black-throated Blue Warbler.  Bottom photo shows 2 of the Red-eyed Vireo.

Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Amazing that the humming birds are still in your area. Nice photos! You commented in another post about the red-headed woodpecker... I think they are being displaced in many environments.

Hi Eileen,
What a beautiful series of photos and collages.
The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is my favorite.
Would you like to post my link, I cannot do that.
I wish you a very nice weekend and stay healthy.

As you might imagine, the bulk of migration here is over, and I doubt that we will see a hummingbird again until next spring. I have already heard of two reports of Dark-eyed Junco, so the winter migrants are moving in.

Hi Eileen! :))) Your birds are beautiful, I love seeing hummingbirds! We saw them in the summer by the Maple tree, but now all we are seeing are crows and Blue Jays. I wish we had more birds here...well, we probably do but they hang out in the woods! I hope to see a Cardinal too one of these days! Lovely post, and that berry tree is so pretty! :)

Lovely to see that warbler in particular, Eileen. YOu are lucky to have berry trees. I keep meaning to make a list and plant some. Meanwhile, neighbours have a walnut tree and every year the squirrels line up the walnuts on their roof before taking them away. I missed it this year but hope to get a photo sometime.

Your first photo of the RTHU is excellent! I think your hummer is now in my yard showed up on the first still here I put out a fresh bottle to keep her going till she is ready to continue her flight...I should start to see Ruby crowned kinglet, Junco, and White throated Sparrow soon...looking forward to them arriving...all the bird numbers are down in my area as in all areas...the over forestation is I believe the cause...PINE trees do not provide food for all the species...I haven't seen a Hairy Woodpecker here in my yard in years!! Happy weekend.

Susie of Arabia said...

I'm sure they love those berries! The birds look cute amongst the berries.

eileeninmd said...

Hello, Sondra!
My last hummingbird sighting was on Oct 1st. Unless a straggler comes through, they have all left me.
I am hoping to see some great birds this winter, maybe an irruption year. I can hope. I saw a Hairy Woodie in my yard yesterday. Thanks for the visit and comment. Happy birding, enjoy your weekend!

You still have lots of species to enjoy Eileen. The Devil's Walking Stick is a great name and clearly the birds don't mind the name. I've come home from sunny Greece to day of heavy rain and very few birds so I am rather impressed by your yard birds. Thanks for the link today. Have a fine Sunday.

What a great variety of birds! Love the hummingbird shot. Our little hummingbird seems to have left sometime last week. I read we're supposed to keep the feeders up around here until late October for any stragglers so I'll do that. Hope you are having a great weekend!

Kenneth Cole Schneider said...

Ah, the riches of your back yard plantings and feeders! Very nice assortment of birds! Wish we could put out a feeder for the Painted Buntings but we ended up feeding the Muscovy Ducks, pigeons and Monk Parakeets which emptied them and spilled the seed on the ground for the rats and mice.

Marie Smith said...

Such a great variety of birds. I could only hope to ever see many of these. Great photos as always, Eileen.

I guess your corner of the world is where our hummingbirds have gone! :-) I'll give my feeder another week, and then I'll take it down.... Maybe. I worry about stragglers not being able to refuel for their long trip.

Hope you've had a good weekend!

Although I’m on a sort of a “blog-break” I find that I can’t resist checking out what my favorite bloggers are posting about. Viewing Nature with Eileen never fails to delight. Saturday’s Critters #355 is another fine post. Love the Ruby-throated Hummingbird photo! This year was my first to put up hummingbird feeders and it has been a lot of fun watching the little birds. I know you’ve probably heard from your relatives out here about all the smoke we’ve had from the California wildfires. We had 10 consecutive days of pretty heavy smoke and the hummingbirds seemed to get by just fine. Hope all is well with you and yours. Have a happy week ahead!
