I am linking up my Barnegat Brants with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday
The Brant is a small goose with a short stubby bill. It's undertail is pure white and the tail is short and black. the Brant's head and neck are black but there is a small white patch on either side of the neck.
The Brant is a coastal bird in the winter and rarely leaves tidal estuaries. They feed on seaweed, sea lettuce and some grasses.

The Brant's above seemed to find a perfect spot on the Barnegat beach to eat their favorite seaweed.

I read the title of your blog post very quickly the first time. I read "Barnegat Brats"! The pictures of the brants are great!
Great pictures of the seashore .I like the geese. They are so fun to watch.
Your photos, as always, are lovely!
A new one for me! Thanks for sharing your great photos and educating me in the process!
Great shots, I have never seen these geese before. Thanks for sharing.

Darryl and Ruth :)
Wow your collage is pretty Eillen. Thanks for sharing!
Mosaic Monday
If I had ever seen these before, I would have labeled them merely an odd goose. Perhaps I'll remember that they are Brants from now on. Hope that you are enjoying a good winter!
Wow---I've never seen the before. Love those tiny bills. What a gorgeous bird.. So glad you captured them... AWESOME...
Love the header also. Wow!
Hugs,
Betsy
Marvelous! Such many footprints of the geese.
Nice shots - they are such inquisitive birds!
Amazing how well camouflaged they are between those mossy rocks :)
What great photos of the Barnegat Brants. They look like they are enjoying their time on the beach.
Lovely photos! You always put together such wonderful collages.
such lovely birds, the brants. (We call them Brents, not sure if they're the same species or just very closely related)
They are beautiful creatures. Love all the photos.
They look pretty chubby on a diet of seaweed.
A great post, Eileen! Never heard about of these geese, so thanks for the introduction!
Wish you a great week!
Irene
Great mosiac and photos of the birds. I don't think I have ever seen one before. V
Beautiful mosaic and so glad to learn about a new goose. So glad to have found your blog with all these amazing photos.
Thanks for dropping by mine.

great shots and mosaic of the geese! i've never seen these geese before...they're so CUTE!!!
honk honk!
Very interesting, I'm going to look again at my images from the crane expedition. Some of the geese looked like Canada geese but seemed to small. Although I was well inland, the Delta is tidal so I suppose it is possible they are Brants.
You get to the most wonderful places and your photo's are so beautiful Eileen.
Have a nice week
Those Brants are beautiful, I've never heard of them either. Good photos.
Beautiful birds!
Eileen~
When I get back to Jersey for a short stint.. you reminded me that I must head to LBI... it is one of the best places to get killer driftwood!
Awesome post... Yes.. I will admit..even moving to Florida.. I still miss some of my Jersey Shores...

You spurred me to research the goose I saw. Not a Brant or Canada goose, I think it is a cackling goose and I will post about it later. Next week will be the cranes so the following week I'll have the geese and all the other birds we saw.
I have never seen or heard of these geese before. Great information and photos. Thanks Eileen!
Love the Brants. Enjoyed all of your photos as usual!
Have a great week!
Great tour of the beach with the brants!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Beautiful ducks and such a lovely area! Terrific captures as always, Eileen! I always enjoy all that I learn from your interesting and informative posts! Hope you have a wonderful week!
Sylvia
These are beautiful images :-)
Beautiful collection of shots. I love the subdued colours.
when I went to the bird sanctuary on Sunday, I thought of you.
The Godwits that flew over and I wasn't fast enough to snap. There were 2 of us, and my husband forgot to turn on Video mode.
Your nature shots are always outstanding, Eileen!

Thank you for yout kind words of sympathy. I realy appreciate them!
Hi Eileen,
Yes, these were Godwits. I didn't know then, and asked the Bird Trust. I have watched on TV that people got to these places and hold welcoming and farewelling parties. I didn't understand why, until I saw them. It was really awesome. ( We even had a TV commentator who said these people were stupid). But now, I want to see them, there were 100s and 100s of birds.
