Barnegat Brants

I am linking up my Barnegat Brants with Mosaic Monday   and Our World Tuesday

The Brant is a small goose with a short stubby bill. It's undertail is pure white and the tail is short and black. the Brant's head and neck are black but there is a small white patch on either side of the neck.

The Brant's above seemed to find a perfect spot on the Barnegat beach to eat their favorite seaweed.

The Brant is a coastal bird in the winter and rarely leaves tidal estuaries. They feed on seaweed, sea lettuce and some grasses.

To see more wonderful mosaics and photos please visit Mosaic Monday  and Our World Tuesday

Thanks to Mary of Mosaic Monday and to the great hosting group of Our World Tuesday: Sylvia, Sandy, Lady Fi, Gattina and Arija.

Also, thanks for stopping by to see my post, I always appreciate your visit.  Have a great week!

If I had ever seen these before, I would have labeled them merely an odd goose. Perhaps I'll remember that they are Brants from now on. Hope that you are enjoying a good winter!

Very interesting, I'm going to look again at my images from the crane expedition. Some of the geese looked like Canada geese but seemed to small. Although I was well inland, the Delta is tidal so I suppose it is possible they are Brants.

You spurred me to research the goose I saw. Not a Brant or Canada goose, I think it is a cackling goose and I will post about it later. Next week will be the cranes so the following week I'll have the geese and all the other birds we saw.

The Godwits that flew over and I wasn't fast enough to snap. There were 2 of us, and my husband forgot to turn on Video mode.

Thank you for yout kind words of sympathy. I realy appreciate them!

Hi Eileen,

Yes, these were Godwits. I didn't know then, and asked the Bird Trust. I have watched on TV that people got to these places and hold welcoming and farewelling parties. I didn't understand why, until I saw them. It was really awesome. ( We even had a TV commentator who said these people were stupid). But now, I want to see them, there were 100s and 100s of birds.
