I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday
On Saturday, hubby and I went on a daytrip to do some birding at Delaware's Bombay Hook NWR.
To start our day, we saw a beautiful sunrise seen on the drive to Delaware.
After starting our day seeing the beautiful sky we arrived at Bombay Hook and were greeted with the sight of a momma doe and two spotted fawns. The Great Egrets and Great Blue Herons were all over the wildlife refuge.
We saw lots of great shorebirds, waders, birds of prey and woodland birds. The Blue Grosbeaks were a pretty sight. And I also enjoyed seeing the female Common Yellowthroat Warbler.
Some of my favorites were the American Avocets and the Black-necked Stilts. I also love the cute Semipalmated Plovers. The Osprey are always a treat!
The GB Herons, Great Egrets and even some Black Crowned Night Herons and the Yellow Crowned Night herons. We saw large numbers of ducks.
I liked this shot of the Great Egret and the hunchbacked GB heron. The heron just looks funny to me, maybe he is upset the Egret is so close.
The Black-necked Stilt chicks were just adorable. The seemed to be mixed in with a number of Yellowlegs and other shorebirds.
I always seem to remember large flocks of American Avocets being at Bombay Hook in the late summer.
The female Common Yellowthroat is a pretty bird. Fall warblers can be hard for me. The females and juveniles can make id-ing very difficult. I appreciate the birders who helped me id some warblers on my facebook page.

ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful photos Eileen. Love the grosbeak, as well as the stilts and chicks.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful day, Eileen. For sure many shorebirds are on the move here so must be heading your way.
ReplyDeleteI still have never seen a yellow-crowned night heron so I am insanely jealous. Yes, they do occasionally cross Lake Ontario, but not often.

ReplyDeleteThe so-called "common" warbler with the yellowthroat is such a beautiful bird. Love how you captured it with those wild grapes. And the egret/heron description makes the photo all the more interesting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics, Eileen! My favorite is the butterfly among thistles, and the black and white (herons?) -such symmetry in the last one!
ReplyDeleteThe sunrise alone would have made for a great day. You added so much more to it; I love the yellow warbler.

ReplyDeleteSuper bird shots. Love the big scruffy heron trying to look all aloof.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to spend a Saturday Eileen. There was lots of interest and the photos are lovely. My favourites are the ones with the heron and egret.
ReplyDeleteLove those sunrises and your mosaics. Beautiful pictures of the deer and birds, especially like the heron and the egret together.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the egret and the heron. They look like they are having quite the discussion, with the heron not very happy at all.
ReplyDeleteAll the shorebirds are at Bombay Hook -- no wonder there aren't any in Oregon ;>)!! I swear that Bombay Hook is my favorite place I've never been to!! Wonderful pictures. It has been so long since I've seen an avocet and they are one of my favorites ever.

ReplyDeleteOoh I love all these birds- the Blue Grosbeak and the avocets and stilts.... so many goodies!
ReplyDeleteEileen,
ReplyDeleteThe birds are lovely. I don't think we have warblers here, but they are beautiful birds. One of them looks almost like an American Goldfinch which we do have.
