Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I always enjoy seeing the Chincoteague wild ponies, even a distant view is nice. We saw so many birds during our recent Chincoteague visit, in early October. I will share some of my favorites, photos were taken mostly from the car or our walks on the trails.
3. We saw the Bald Eagle on the ground twice while driving the wildlife drive, both times it took off and flew somewhere. An empty nest is nearby.
4. Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge has wooded trails, I was looking for the Brown-headed Nuthatch. I could hear them but every time I tried for a photo they moved. I did catch the Red-breasted Nuthatch and the White-breasted Nuthatch.
Sorry, I am flipping back and forth with my linky tools. I hope this one is working, if it is not working please leave your link in your comment and I will fix or adjust accordingly.

1. A view from the beach road, two Great Egret close by and the larger flock of White Ibis and Egrets seen further in the distance.
2. Below are some of Chincoteague's wild ponies.

5. The American Oystercatchers were seen on the bayside of the island. You can't miss seeing that red-orange bill.
6. We saw the Belted Kingfishers numerous times in different parts of the refuge.
7. Some times the flock of White Ibis and Egrets would fly from one side of the road to the other side. Not sure why, something upset them?
8. The White Ibis have red legs and bill. A juvenile below has brown back and wings, it will turn white gradually.
9. A few Tricolored Herons, they so looked funny running around in circles. I think they were trying to catch food.
10. Below is the taller Great Egret with the smaller Snowy Egret.
I hope you enjoyed my post. Thanks

Wonderful set of photographs Eileen and some great reflection of birds in the water. yes I saw the goose behind the cow to the right between the posts but I probably would not have seen it in this shot if you had not pointed it out. Thanks for hosting stay safe adn have a lovely weekend.
A wonderful visit to Chincoteague. You managed to take photos of so many different types of birds and the ponies.
Aw a pleasant day!
Hello Eileen,
As always beautiful photos. The White Egret is so pretty. Yes, I can see the Canada Goose, but it's not easy :)
Happy Weekend, and take care!
Hi Eileen,
Superb series of photos from your visit to Chincoteague.
The Belted Kingfisher is my favorite.
Would you like to post my link, I can't do it.
I wish you a nice weekend and stay healthy.
Beautiful refuge and a gathering-place for eagles, some of which may have flown up north from Florida to find cooler water where the fish do not need to go deep to find oxygen during the warmer months.
Posts such as this make me realize how much I miss the coast, and how Covid-19 means that I have no chance of going there any time soon!
Thank you Mae!
It is a special place for me. I loved the ponies, since I was a kid and I read Misty of Chincoteague.

Hi Eileen, it is so wonderful to see your shots. There is still life somewhere. Gives hope for the future.
Love them all, the cute nuthatches, ibis, Oystercatchers and the rest. I never seen your Oystercatchers but they look quite similar to ours.
Take care. And have a great week.
Beautiful critters indeed. Thanks fir sharung your excellent photos. I love the Belted Kingfisher, it's so small and cute.
Thanks for hosting, have a great day and weekend. Stay safe!
...Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is a place that I've heard about, but never have been there. Thanks for taking me along.
The Belted Kingfisher looks a tad like the Kookaburra to me.
Hello,
beautiful series of critters. Love the ponies.
The Belted kingfisher is anyway one step beyond! :)
Wishing you a nice day and a great weekend!
That's a great place for birds (and other wildlife)! Beautiful photos! It's funny how nuthatches can be rather loud, yet difficult to see.
ooooh to see the eagles, such a thrill!! i do see them occasionally, usually in flight, and capturing them in flight is not my forte!!
i really enjoy seeing the ponies and the kingfisher, both have eluded me!! have a wonderful weekend, and so many thanks for hosting us!!
My favorites today are the kingfisher & ibid on flight! And yes, I see the Canada goose...maybe a 2nd one farther to the right of the fence post?
You see the most marvellous birds! The shot comparing the two egrets really illustrates the point!
Thanks for hosting.
P.S. we went walking in a park Friday, all I saw were the usual suspects (nuthatch, blue jay, etc.) and I can see them better at home!
Lovely shots, Eileen, I especially like those egrets!
PS: Thanks for hosting, Eileen!
Hi Eileen! :) Great photos, I love those Kingfishers! To see a bald eagle around here is a special thing. When Alex and I went out by the river a few times, we saw a few of them for the first time. They were too quick to get on camera, but we were amazed at their grace, size and beauty! I love the shot with the Canada Goose lol, that was great!!! Photobomb lol!! :)
I love those wild ponies! And it's neat to see those big flocks of birds. We are seeing a few big flocks already and it's exciting. We'll be out again today! Hope our necks survive! lol Love that beautiful Kingfisher. Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks Yam!
I love those cute Nuthatches!

I saw the goose poking its head out behind the pony. Love seeing your pics of the Eagle, Eileen.
I was happy to see this Linky back! ;-)
You have such lovely wide open spaces Eileen. How wonderful to have wild ponies to watch and photograph. It's lovely to see your American Oystercatcher as a change from our own European Oystercatcher. And of course your Bald Eagle and so many Egrets, Herons and ibis. Enjoy your Sunday and thanks for the chance to link up today.
Thank you Jenn!

Take care, enjoy your day! Happy weekend!
Here there are a number of horse ranches and I love to see them being ridden; this time of year they wear blankets in the yards so kind of coddled horses. No wild ones. I have never heard of a brown headed nuthatch but I do have both the others at my feeders. They mingle quite well with chickadees I notice. Thrilling to catch sight of an eagle...that has happened to me twice. Yes, I enjoyed your post very much.
I like watching the large water birds. I have concerns about the health of our wetlands and that they are still being destroyed.
Hut Kingfisher is so beautiful. I've never seen one in real life! And a flock of Ibis reminds me of the time of flocked not quite that big but a really big one came over our house and they all landed in our pine tree in the backyard. I have never seen Ibis sitting in a tree before and it was a shock. I really love the photo of this flock flying it's gorgeous
Excellent photos Eileen. I would love to see wild ponies!
Done! Thanks Debbie!
