Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I always enjoy seeing the Chincoteague wild ponies, even a distant view is nice. We saw so many birds during our recent Chincoteague visit, in early October. I will share some of my favorites, photos were taken mostly from the car or our walks on the trails.
3. We saw the Bald Eagle on the ground twice while driving the wildlife drive, both times it took off and flew somewhere. An empty nest is nearby.
4. Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge has wooded trails, I was looking for the Brown-headed Nuthatch. I could hear them but every time I tried for a photo they moved. I did catch the Red-breasted Nuthatch and the White-breasted Nuthatch.
Sorry, I am flipping back and forth with my linky tools. I hope this one is working, if it is not working please leave your link in your comment and I will fix or adjust accordingly.

1. A view from the beach road, two Great Egret close by and the larger flock of White Ibis and Egrets seen further in the distance.
2. Below are some of Chincoteague's wild ponies.

5. The American Oystercatchers were seen on the bayside of the island. You can't miss seeing that red-orange bill.
6. We saw the Belted Kingfishers numerous times in different parts of the refuge.
7. Some times the flock of White Ibis and Egrets would fly from one side of the road to the other side. Not sure why, something upset them?
8. The White Ibis have red legs and bill. A juvenile below has brown back and wings, it will turn white gradually.
9. A few Tricolored Herons, they so looked funny running around in circles. I think they were trying to catch food.
10. Below is the taller Great Egret with the smaller Snowy Egret.
I hope you enjoyed my post. Thanks

Beautiful refuge and a gathering-place for eagles, some of which may have flown up north from Florida to find cooler water where the fish do not need to go deep to find oxygen during the warmer months.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken!
DeleteWe do have some Bald Eagles that stay here year round, they do not migrate.
Take care, enjoy your day! Happy weekend!
Posts such as this make me realize how much I miss the coast, and how Covid-19 means that I have no chance of going there any time soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you David!
DeleteI was upset that I missed the shore bird migration in the spring.
I am thankful to see any part of the fall migration.

That's a great place for birds (and other wildlife)! Beautiful photos! It's funny how nuthatches can be rather loud, yet difficult to see.

P.S. we went walking in a park Friday, all I saw were the usual suspects (nuthatch, blue jay, etc.) and I can see them better at home!

Hi Eileen! :) Great photos, I love those Kingfishers! To see a bald eagle around here is a special thing. When Alex and I went out by the river a few times, we saw a few of them for the first time. They were too quick to get on camera, but we were amazed at their grace, size and beauty! I love the shot with the Canada Goose lol, that was great!!! Photobomb lol!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Rain!

You have such lovely wide open spaces Eileen. How wonderful to have wild ponies to watch and photograph. It's lovely to see your American Oystercatcher as a change from our own European Oystercatcher. And of course your Bald Eagle and so many Egrets, Herons and ibis. Enjoy your Sunday and thanks for the chance to link up today.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day! Happy weekend!
Here there are a number of horse ranches and I love to see them being ridden; this time of year they wear blankets in the yards so kind of coddled horses. No wild ones. I have never heard of a brown headed nuthatch but I do have both the others at my feeders. They mingle quite well with chickadees I notice. Thrilling to catch sight of an eagle...that has happened to me twice. Yes, I enjoyed your post very much.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jocelyn!
DeleteIt is always thrilling to see the eagles.
Take care, enjoy your day! Happy weekend!
I like watching the large water birds. I have concerns about the health of our wetlands and that they are still being destroyed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Red!
DeleteThat is sad news about the wetlands being destroyed.
Take care, enjoy your day! Happy weekend!
Hut Kingfisher is so beautiful. I've never seen one in real life! And a flock of Ibis reminds me of the time of flocked not quite that big but a really big one came over our house and they all landed in our pine tree in the backyard. I have never seen Ibis sitting in a tree before and it was a shock. I really love the photo of this flock flying it's gorgeous
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra!
