Happy Monday! Happy November!!
October flew by, it is like time is an illusion. We are still hanging in there, happy and healthy. I hope everyone is safe, happy and healthy. We are trying to find ways to get outdoors, go on a hike and see some different scenery. On this day, hubby and I took a day trip to Shenandoah Nat'l Park. We were hoping to see the gorgeous fall colors and beautiful trees and maybe some wildlife.
1. We drove the Skyline drive from Front Royal to the Big Meadows a total of 51 miles. This scenic drive is only 35mph and it takes about one hour and 20 minutes. It may takes us longer, we like to pullover onto the overlooks to check out the views.
2. We could see the early morning fog down in the valley from one of the overlooks.
2. We always start the Skyline Drive from the northern park entrance at the town of Front Royal Virginia. We saw one deer, the whole day. Not much wildlife around, I always hope to see a black bear.
3. After driving a few hours, it feels good to take a walk on my favorite trail called Limberlost. I heard some birds along the way, but no photos. The birds were camera shy that day.
4. We did see some colors up close on the Limberlost trail, I always enjoy the shadows.
5. We sat in our car with our picnic, with a view of the Big Meadows. Our picnic was a PB&J sandwich with chips and some dark chocolate for a snack. Hubby is out there with the binocs.
6. A view from one of the overlooks, the colors were just so-so to me. We saw some pretty reds and yellows here and there. Mostly browns and rust colors. Did we miss the peak color time, maybe.
7. Not the best photo, but I watched these 2 raptors in flight while parked at one of the overlooks. They looked smaller in size than a Vulture. They were a distance away, but they circled a few times and was joined by a 3 bird all similar in size.
At home during bad weather days, I am spending time reading on my kindle. There are so many mystery series to read. Right now, I am reading a humorous mystery called Outfoxed by David Rosenfelt, it is # 14 in the Andy Carpenter series.
Be safe, wear your mask and keep your distance.

Down below... you have happy December? Anyway, a picnic (even if in the car) away from home after a scenic drive like yours is a terrific way to spend a day. Love the view & tree shadows...beautiful. a good series to read on days at home is perfect!

How nice that you all got over to the mountains...and got a chance to lunch with my favorite lunch! I grew up on that lunch. Sometimes had a banana or apple as well. Our colors here never were brilliant this year either.
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara!
DeleteHave a great week!
Each area of our country has its beauty. One of ours are the Appalachians in Fall and you caught their beauty. I will be checking out the mystery series. Happy Day.

I think I have read all of David rosenfelt books and I love them. And I have red outfoxed. I spend a lot of time reading also my favorite thing to do and if I had to give up everything except for one the Kindle would be what I would keep. I love all the beautiful overview you have because we don't have anything like that here. I know you miss your little trips for a few days here in a few days there
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra!
DeleteYes, hubby and I miss our little road trips!
Not sure when things will ever be normal again.
have a great week!
These are lovely photos, Eileen. I, too, enjoy a good mystery. I reading the Rhys Bowen Molly Brown series. So I'll have to try Outfoxed. Enjoy your day!

Hubby and I just finished a Andy Carpenter book! Don't you wish they would make a movie out of these characters! Who would play Marcus? heehee! Love your views and it's fun to have a car picnic. The fog laying low sure looks neat! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane!
DeleteMarcus is one of my favorite characters, along with Andy!

All of your photos are beautiful Eileen, but that fog photo, wow...should be framed! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rain!

Oh I lost my comment, the colors seem a little dull here and lots of leaves have fallen already...I had hopes of making it to the parkway but I could not figure out if the campgrounds are open or not...the links in the .gov site were not clickable so I think they are still closed..I normally stay at Rocky Knob and Otter Creek.
ReplyDeleteHello Sondra,
DeleteWe saw that the lodges and campgrounds were open on the day we went. The colors and trees this year were not the best I've ever seen at Shenandoah. The colors were spotty. Thanks for the comment. Take care, enjoy your day and week ahead.
Very beautiful'

What a beautiful trip, even though the wildlife hardly showed up. There are many factors in play as to how colorful or not colorful autumn leaves will be, and I think all the ducks were not in a row, so to speak, this year. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yvonne!
DeleteTake care! Have a happy new week!
Hi Eileen
ReplyDeleteI think Shenandoah NP was the first National Park I visited so it will always be a favorite. The fall color is so changeable by date it seems--sometimes early sometimes late, sometimes not much at all. It all depends on the weather. I still saw pretty colors in your photos ad I'm sure it was nice to get out for the day and be able to take a few walks through all that natural beauty. Hope we get good results in the election and there will be peace afterward. Stay safe and healthy!
Thank you Pat!
DeleteI hope all goes smoothly for the election. A landslide would be nice!
Take care! Have a happy new week!
Beautiful fall colors! Most of our leaves have fallen at this point.

ReplyDeleteThank you Jill!

Shenandoah NP is on my bucket list. I love the name. The other name I love is "Front Royal." It seems so exotic.
ReplyDeleteOur fall colors here are not typically the bright bold colors. We get all sorts of browns, and dull reds and such. I still love them.
Thank you Yogi!
DeleteYou should try to visit Shenandoah NP.
Take care! Have a happy new week!
Eileen - Montana has a lot of yellow in Autumn, but not much of the other classic colors unless it's been "imported", so I miss the POW of those deciduous trees in all their glory. Looks like this just might have been an "off" year for fall color, but that drive is still so special! Thanks for taking everyone at Mosaic Monday along for the ride!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie!
DeleteThe yellows are beautiful. I think it was an off year for the colors.
Take care! Have a happy new week!
Just loved the post.

What a beautiful outing! Shame about the colours but the views and the drive look absolutely stunning. Love a little picnic in the car too - and so do our kids. We're heading into summer here in Australia, so we're totally opposite to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Katerina!
DeleteSummer sounds nice, I do not like winter.
Take care! Have a happy new week!
Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteyou show beautiful pictures of this walk of your husband.
Fortunately, we can still enjoy these beautiful autumn colors.
We are also still healthy, but the measures against the pandemic will become even stricter next evening (Tuesday 3 November). The cinemas will close again, just like the theaters and you can only be outside with 2 people.
These and other measures will be announced on TV tonight by our Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
Nature is then a beautiful way to be outside and enjoy, like these beautiful pictures of you.
Greetings, Helma
Hello Helma,
DeleteI think it is best to be safe and take the necessary precautions for your health. Take care and stay safe.

Day trips with picnic lunches are my favourite form of recreation! I too love seeing the shadows of trees falling across pathways, it is somehow rather mysterious and alluring at the same time.

Beautiful fall photos..Love the colors and the scenery..The car picnic is a great idea..Enjoy the rest of your week..
ReplyDeleteThank you Missy!

You have beautiful territory there. I haven't seen deer in quite some time but Rick's tenant tells me they've been hanging about their back yard -- and eating the hostas. I think they've been eating mine, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie!
DeleteHave a great day!
I have missed going up to Skyline Drive. These are all very familiar to me. It’s a treat to see in your photos Eileen. Your picnic sounds like my kind of a picnic. Thanks for the book title, this is new to me and has my interest peaked. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your week :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Denise!

ReplyDeleteThank you William!
DeleteEnjoy your day!
What a fun place to visit, love all the gorgeous pictures. We are getting rain now so most of the leaves have fallen.
ReplyDeleteHugs Diane
Thank you Diane!
DeleteHave a great day!
That seems like my sort of outing, I always take a lot longer than expected, especially if I have to stop, turn around and go back to get a better look at something. The colours look wonderful to me, our climate is a bit too tropical to give us much. Take care.

Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful pictures.
So great to see the view over the mountains from that high point.
Shot 7 is really fantastic. And special to see the fog above on the other shots.
Greetings, Marco
Thank you Marco!
DeleteI appreciate the comment and visit.

The colors here are so so as well. Disappointing after the year we've had I was hoping for vibrant but I guess the trees are feeling the stress of 2020 as well. At least you had a nice drive and lovely scenery even if the trees weren't in full regalia so to speak.
ReplyDeleteDawn aka Spatulas On Parade
Thank you Dawn!

Lovely shots Eileen. That's a great drive and one to escape the crowds and just enjoy the great oudoors.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil!

A very nice place to visit.
ReplyDeleteLovely photographs.
All the best Jan
Thank you Jan! Have a happy day!
DeleteSkyline Drive has been extremely busy this year. I think that's why we aren't seeing too many animals. Except squirrels!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful drive. Thank you for taking me along.
