Saturday's Critters # 361

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

1.  Nov 3rd, I was putting my feeders away for the night and I looked up and saw this bunny watching me.  It is a cutie.

2. I have been seeing more American Goldfinches at my feeders, you can just barely make out a reflection of one Goldfinch on the feeder.

3. Nov 4th, our weather is sunny and warmer. The temps were in the high 60's.  I can go days or even weeks without seeing the Goldfinch and then all of sudden they are back.   I keep checking out my feeders hoping for a Pine Siskin or some other new winter bird. No luck, yet.  I am happy to see all or any bird in my yard and at my feeders.

4. The Northern Cardinal can be seen in my yard every day. The female below was standing on my deck railing looking for seeds to eat.

Birds in Maryland and in the news, not that I am running out to see these birds. This past week a SNOWY OWL and a Mountain Bluebird have been sighted in Maryland.  I have seen the Snowy Owl a few times in Maryland and I did not want to be one seen trespassing or stressing out the bird.  The Mountain Bluebird I have also seen in Colorado and in Wyoming.

5.  My throwback photos of a Maryland Snowy Owl and seen in Colorado a Mountain Bluebird.  I do not keep a state bird list, I am just happy I have already seen these two birds.

Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

  2. That is a cute bunny. Its wonderful to have all the above birds coming to your feeder. The birds that come to visit my garden are usually the common house sparrows and some others which I do not know their names. Thank you for hosting and have a great weekend.

  3. Beautiful photos. I hope Miss Cardinal puts on a little weight before cold weather sets in.

  4. I agree Eileen We should not go chasing birds as it will stress them out. It must have been a special moment when you saw a Snowy Owl. Thanks for hosting, sttay safe and have a wonderful weekend

  5. Your feeder looks really successful! We are at war with squirrels again, and have bought a new, more squirrel-resistant one, but the birds aren't used to it yet.

  10. Hi Eileen,
What great photos you show again and that all made in your garden.
Photo 4 is my favorite, this species only occurs in a zoo in the Netherlands.
Would you like to post my link, I cannot do that myself.
Have a great weekend and stay healthy.

Your feeders are very much visited.

  14. Did you ready my mind Eileen? I was just on the way to visit when up popped your comment. I'm with you. The twitchers in our area stress out birds all the time. It's like a procession. I know because I follow the WhatsApp groups and see their silly comments that encourage the other loons to follow. I hope you see a Snowy of your own soon this winter.

    1. Thank you Phil! It appears, this Snowy Owl is so popular attracting crowds of people walking into the field. I am not sure why they feel it is their right to trespass or chase the Owl. The administrator on the Maryland Bird facebook page has asked that no one post the location of any owl. They have purposely made it fly so they could take their photos. I have been lucky in previous years to find a Snowy Owl on my own, it is nice to see one without a crowd of people around. My camera has great zoom, so I do not have to get close to any bird. Take care, enjoy your weekend.

  15. A few Snowy Owls have returned to these parts too, so before long all the yahoo photographers will be trespassing on farmers' fields and baiting the owls with mice so that they can get a flight shot. They are a bunch of selfish slobs with no consideration for a bird resting to conserve energy.

    1. Thanks David!
Selfish snobs, that is a good description. These selfish people make it hard for a bird lover to even see a bird. I will not trespass and I just try to take a good look, maybe a photo and move on. Some of these selfish people stay for hours, how many photos do they need? Take care and enjoy your day!

  18. Dearest Eileen,
what a wonderful animal world! The rabbit is really adorable - and you have such a variety of birds in your garden. I am also very enthusiastic about the beautiful snow owl. I have never seen these birds in the wild. And I didn't know the Colorado Bluebird before.
In my post today I unfortunately don't have many "critters" for you, just one butterfly, which is one of the rare species. We call it "Trauermantel" - "Mourning Cloak" - I don't know if that is the correct translation. Its zoological name is Nymphalis antiopa. But all the mountains, forest plants and lakes that I show are also divine creations - so I hope you will accept my post for your linkup! :-)
    Happs Weekend!

  19. Beautiful birds still in your garden. If there is one more bir I really would love to see that would be the Snowy owl. And your Avocet of course, so it makes two on my wishlist. :) Seeing your bunny I remembered I actually had seen a large fat one but forgot about it. So todays post is "memory lane"

  33. I caught a very brief glimpse of a snowy owl from a train window a couple of years ago. It was a thrill however short lived. I have never seen pine siskins here but with my feeders all up and running now I keep hoping for them to stop by. Your metal feeder looks to be a sturdy one.

    1. Thank you Jocelyn!
I thought the feeder was sturdy too, until one night a raccoon carried it to another part of the yard.
Hubby eventually found the feeder. I have to put them all away at night. It is a thrill to see any owl species. Take care, enjoy your day!

  34. Hi Eileen, I always enjoy Saturday’s Critters and today’s post is no exception. I may have mentioned before that my favorite bird is the Mountain Bluebird. However, I may have to reconsider that after this past lockdown summer with my hummingbirds. :-) I am fascinated, and delighted, to hear you’ve seen a Mountain Bluebird in Maryland. Part of my fascination is, coincidentally, I just read a post on the website NextDoor (it’s a what’s going on in the neighborhood thing) that someone saw a Mountain Bluebird here in Seattle. That’s a first for me. Well, in my currently slow pace of blogging, it’s been a while since I linked up with Saturday’s Critters and I’m happy this morning to link up my post about the Hummingbird Lady of Lake Chipala. I hope some of the birders out there will enjoy it. And, by the way, thank you for your kind comment there. Thank you for sharing and hosting Saturday’s Critters. Have a happy weekend and take good care! John

We have a list of birds being seen in Maryland, most times I am not running out to see them. Especially if I have already seen them in a different area. I appreciate your visit, comment and the link. Take care and stay safe! Have a happy weekend!

  56. Hello dear Eileen, I scheduled my post early and when it appeared, I forgot to link up with you. Thank you for hosting us and for sharing. I love seeing the Maryland Snowy Owl. I've just read about the Barking Owl in Australia through EC (Sue's) blog. Amazing little bird. And it actually barks like a dog! I trust you're keeping safe and well. Jo

  57. Your Snowy Owl is special. Hope you get the Pine Siskins as they are invading in to the US from Canada this year. When we first moved to south Florida in 2004 we put out a feeder in the winter and it attracted a flock of goldfinches, which are not very common here. That was the only year we had the feeder because it was attacked by Muscovy Ducks and pigeons which knocked all the seed out on the ground.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I watch for the Pine Siskins too, Eileen...love them and when there's one, there's tons (must be migrating through). , along with the Goldfinches and of course Cardinals, which I also love. The Juncos are another favorite. Gosh, the more I think about it, I really adore them ALL!!...:)jp
