Sights seen during one of our walks along the C&O Canal. The Green Heron is a regular sighting for us during our walks. The turtles on this day were all out and enjoy the sun I guess. I do not think I have ever seen this many turtles before. Pretty cool sight.

Thanks for stopping by to see my Green Heron and Turtle post.
There had to be at least a hundred turtles on the downed tree. 100 might be an exaggeration. But there were some tiny ones that did not show up on the photo.

The turtles are sitting side by side listening to lecture.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Rainfield! I wonder which one is giving the lecture.
ReplyDeleteLove the lights in the heron shots. Beautiful captures all.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, the Green Heron is so skilled at hiding, so good capture.
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos, Eileen. I love the turtles on the long log. I checked up in my comprehensive bird book (Birds of Africa south of the Sahara)and your green heron looks like our green-backed heron. Thanks for a LOVELY post. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteEileen: I'm officially jealous. The Green Heron is not co-operative at the lake and all those turtles. Neat critter captures.
ReplyDeleteNeat photos. I've heard that green herons can be found here too...but I haven't seen one yet, let alone taken a photo of one.
ReplyDeleteLove the herons but that many turtles on one log -amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your green heron! Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that's a lotta turtle!
ReplyDeleteButterfly

Wow, I never seen that many turtles in one place. Great shots:)
ReplyDeleteGreat lighting..nice photos.
ReplyDeletethats allot of turtles!!
Turtle line is amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to see many turles crawling everywhere. The heron is gorgeous sitting on the branch, very serious.love your photos.
ReplyDeletePretty awesome pictures Eileen. Love those turtles. I call them "life savers".
ReplyDeleteOur kind of place! Great pictures. When we were walking in "our" swamp yesterday, a sign told us that the green stuff covering the ponds (like you show here) is called "frog bit". Everywhere else we've ever been, it was called duckweed. Whatever it's called, it makes a great place for birds, turtles and frogs. (and occasional alligators, probably not where you are though ;>)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of both the heron and the turtles. That is sure a lot of turtles all together.
ReplyDeleteNow I have never seen that many turtles..expecially like this! OK..how come you didn't wade in so you could catch a macro?!! lol))..I'm sure they would of held still long enough!! Neat photos and post Eileen..hope you have a wonderful afternoon-
ReplyDeleteThe heron, what a wonderful find. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of the green heron. I would have been so excited to see that many turtles all at once.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I have never seen that many turtles in one place before either. That is amazing. It would be wonderful to see herons on a regular basis, they are a rare treat here.
ReplyDeleteAmazing to see all those turtles sunning themselves. I bet the heron didn't know where to start ;-)
ReplyDeleteI don't think one more turtle could feet on that tree. It must be a bit of musical chairs when they are all trying to climb up on it. What an amazing photo!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great find with the turtles.Nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen anything like the turtle photo before. What an amazing sight and a great shot by you.
ReplyDeleteThe heron shots are awesome too :)
Very nice photos of the Green Heron. Those turtles on a log are a hoot!
ReplyDeleteI like the heron, but the treetrunk full of turtles is amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI love the herons. They are one of my favorite birds.
ReplyDeleteWe have turtles like that around here too. It's funny b/c sometimes you will see them pushing each other off the log to get a spot up there.
