I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday .
July 7, 2013
On the morning of July 4, hubby and I went on a hike at a local park called Hashawha Nature Center. We try to take our walks early in the morning to avoid the hot & humid afternoon. We took the longer loop trail which goes by several ponds, an old homestead, pine forest, trail lined with daylilies and the Raptor Center.
Some of my other posts on Hashawha Nature Center
This trail leads to the Raptor Center. I loved passing along all these pretty daylilies.
I usually do not like taking photos of the caged birds but, they do have a nice raptor center with a Bald Eagle, Barred Owls, Great Horned Owls, Screech Owl and a vulture. Of course they are injured in some way and can not be released into the wild.
I loved seeing all the different dragonflies around the lake.
I believe this is an Amberwing dragonfly. The amber color on this one is beautiful.
Another pond we passed, we saw lots of mushrooms and these pretty bee balm flowers.
The Robin was enjoying these berries!
The Gray Catbird and Robins seemed to be the birds of the day. It was nice to have a day off work, for us it was an extra day to be out walking and enjoying nature.
I hope you enjoyed my walk, post and photos. Thanks for visiting my blog. I always appreciate your comments.

Beautiful picks.. Lovely place. Congrats and regards..
The green path through the daylilies looks so cool and inviting. Seeing the bee balm makes me eager for my own to bloom. I'm going to have more than one this year and I'm pretty excited about that.
You've still got beautiful orange daylilies blooming there. And I love the dragonflies. We have the bright blue ones here. Hugs!
what a lovely place! The lily lined walk looks wonderful and the dragonfly is gorgeous
Beautiful, Eileen. Love the amber wing--how interesting.Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
This looks like a fun place to visit, Eileen. You were smart to avoid the heat, though I wilt even at 8 am in this weather.
Thanks for sharing your trip and great shots of nature. I don't move quick enough or have the patience to get the kind of pictures you do, so always enjoy what you have to share.
Thanks for stopping by. It is very unusual that the geranium survived the Winter. I just never got around to breaking off the dead part last Fall and when got ready to plant annuals this Spring I saw some green peeking thru, so gave it a shot of miracle grow and it survived.:)
Looks like a beautiful place to hike/walk... You have so many great places not far from you.
I don't like to see caged birds either --but if they are injured, I guess being caged is a good thing... Bless their hearts.
Lots of great photos. Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy
the amberwing is really pretty! the catbird and robin made me smile. :)
Your photos are gorgeous. What type of camera do you use? We have some lovely red and blue birds everywhere this time of year, but I can never get a good photo. Any tips? I am a new follower and am visiting from Mosaic Monday. Have a wonderful day and I hope you get a chance to visit me at Still Woods Farmhouse. I posted my first ever mosaic/collage today!
Blessings from Still Woods Farmhouse
That looks like an incredible place to walk, Eileen, with the various kinds of vegetation adding to the beauty.

Wow such lovely photos, I just love all of nature and you have captured it so well. I am coming over from Mosaic Monday. I would have loved to been along with you on your walk. Enjoy a wonderful new week. Kathy

have a great week. ( :
Beautiful images, Eileen. I really did enjoy this walk with you...
Just beautiful
Fabulous photos, Eileen. I enjoyed taking the tour with you. The photo of the robin in the berries is my favorite. Just something about the bend of his head that grabbed me. Nice work all around.
What a lovely place for a walk. The pathway through the lilies is pretty as a poem. Wonderful photos of the dragon flies.
Love the dragonfly photos! Beautiful wings on the Amberwing... I also love the expression of the Robin :)
Beautiful place with so much greenery. Lovely birds.
What a lovely place to walk. You got some wonderful images!
The cool air seems to waft right out of some of your photos. I love the dragonflies - I could lie back on the lawn and watch them for ages.
Looks like a beautiful place to walk.
The nature is beautiful.
Your photographs are great.
Regards, Irma
That Amberwing is really special, Eileen! We saw a rare dragonfly this weekend ... it seems they are just beginning to appear in my neck of the woods! Better late than never ... after the awful winter.
Looks like you found yet another lovely trail to explore Eileen. Lovely shots again. Like you I don't like seeing birds in cages but if they are unjured and used for education and breeding puproses it seems much better. Have a great week ahead.
Beautiful photography ~ wonderful 'walks' you take ~ Happy Day to you ^_^
Thanks for 'visiting.'
So good to see you again, Eileen! Thanks for all your visits and comments while I've been absent from Blogger. Re caged/injured birds, we sponsor a Spotted Eagle Owl back in SA. He is used for shows and we know he cannot be released back into the wild! I love the Catbird photos. Hope you're having a great week. Jo
What a neat place to visit and as I always do, I loved looking through your photos, all so pretty and interesting. I particularly loved the close up of the dragonfly today. Amazing to see those critters up so close. It's hard enough to take a photo of the birds, but I find dragonflies near impossible to take shots of. Great photos!!!
p.s. thank you also for stopping by and leaving your sweet comments wishing me a happy birthday :)
pps. I also want to thank you for wishing Gregg a happy retirement. I am not quite awake yet ;)
Beautiful place ! I love the owl picture !
Hi Eileen, I sure like Catbirds, and your pictures of the American Robin and the berries are neat. Have a fabulous coming week!
I must admit owls are probably my favourite birds. There is something so mysterious and beautiful about them. Have a good week
Yes, Eileen, I so enjoyed my walk with you through the nature center. That close up of the cat bird is awesome. And just look at all that beautiful green! What a glorious outing.
My computer is running properly now. And hopefully after I jinxed it with my morning post [I had to go have the modem replaced after I posted]...all's well that ends well.
Oh, what a lovely walk!! Everything in bloom there is still
just in the budding stage up here. I esp. love the picture of the verdant trail leading into the Raptor Center. I've never visited a Raptor Center before, but I so appreciate their efforts.
Love the walk! That is such a great place. The dragonfly is incredibly beautiful -- and its great that he sat still for you,
Gorgeous shots!
I enjoy walking in well-kept place like this but, like you, I feel bad about the caged birds.
Beautiful place to enjoy! Love the name catbird even though the bird doesn't look anything like a cat :-)
I'm not sure I've seen an amber winged dragonfly. Great series!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Wow, it's so pretty! Sad about the injured birds, but it's great that they have a place to be safe. Thanks for sharing!
What an incredible series of shots, Eileen! Such a beautiful place to walk and enjoy nature! I, too, feel sad about the caged birds, but I guess it's the only way to protect them.
What a beautiful place.
Merle......
Hi Eileen,
love all thew ildlife in your garden, looks lovely
your pictures are always so extraordinary! :) I think your catbird is my favorite this time...though it is always hard to pick a fave, lol...:)
What a great hike. I'd leave early, too - can't take the heat. What a fabulous dragonfly photo!
Lovely photos of the dragonflies!
I have never seen a catbird! Very cool!
What a great walk and nice photos of it. I hope those birds get better!
Those dragon flies have such beautiful wings.
So enjoyed this fascinating walk with you! The amber winged dragonfly especially struck me as being very beautiful!
This looks like a very pretty nature center! You are so fortunate to have so much natural areas in your location, Eileen.
That looks like a great walk. I loved the dragonfly. I don't think I've ever seen one like that.
Wow, grt photo series...
Hi Eileen! Thanks for the wonderful hike! I loved all your photos, showing your beautiful surroundings and wild life. Have a great week.
Wil
Wonderful nature photos!
Dearest Eileen,
Yes, I really enjoyed the walk with you at Hashawha Nature Center♡♡♡
My husband who loved to collect dragonflies when little, was amazed with the Amberwing dragonfly and admired all of your pictures, my friend♬♬♬
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
So much to see in that park. The early part of the day is always the best. As they say 'The early bird catches the worm'.
Thank your for this wonderful walk with you. Fantastic photos. The dragonflies are a bit different to our area. Nice !
Best regards, Synnöve
A lovely walk especially by the day lilies. Everything is so green.
Hi! Very beautiful place. Your photos are very beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Wishing you a wonderful week.
What a wonderful place to explore. All the shots are great.
I wish I could have been on your walk, but your photos make the place look amazing. I really love your bird shots - and the glorious little dragonfly
you have the best walks among nature eileen, it's just been too hot for me!!
my yard is loaded with catbirds and they sure do pose nicely for the camera.....now if i could just get them talkin' to my cardinals!!
O dear, I was confused about that dragonfly. Looked like small flags on the wings. :)
looks like a beautiful place for a walk. I agree that early morning walks are the best way to go when the light and air temperature is perfect.
Have a wonderful week, and thanks for stopping by my blog this week.
I'm with you on the caged birds, but I'm also understanding better how they can help with public education. Lovely trail!
It's always nice to enjoy the cool of a beautiful forest. The photos are lovely. Have a great week.
...love the dragonflies!
I really enjoyed the walk through those green trails, flanked with the daylilies! The robin posed for you, or else he was concerned you might get his berries! And what a pretty Amberwing dragonfly-they move so fast around here that you can't capture them on camera easily. This is a great post, Eileen, with mushrooms and pretty flowers! Have a great evening! Happy Halloween!
Hi Eileen, beautiful walk through this park and I love the dragon flies and the robin. Are the raptors "worked" to keep thems healthy and occupied? At our rehab raptor centres most of the birds are used in daily shows and educational programmes. I think this keeps the birds from becoming bored and the public is taught all about them. Have a great day. Jo
I love these nature pictures. Have a wonderful day!
What a beautiful walk with so much to see Eileen. Loved the lillies and the dragonfly! It always amazes me how different your Robins are. Have a fantastic week :)
Beautiful place for a walk!
The owl is my favourite. We've got a place here that has birds of prey as well that aren't able to be released back.
What a beautiful place for a walk. Early morning is the way to go. I always enjoy that time when I am off work during the summer.
beautiful pictures!! I also don't like to keep birds in cages...
Helloo, Loved the post. Amazing place. Thanks for all pics.
what a lovely path. the day lilies are beautiful and the amber dragonfly just amazing! wishing you a beautiful week ahead! (forgive my long absences... busy season of life...)
Marvellous that u have this place to walk with such beauty and lots of critters to see
Wow ... how did I get to this post - I saw the original date was from 2013!
But I thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you.
All the best Jan
